Mascan42, for a good video card, you can probably get an ati 9800 for a good price.

Check pricewatch.com to get a good deal.

The 9800 Pro runs CS:Source great at 1280x1024 so I imagine HL2 will also run very well on it.

I checked ATI's website, and I have a question. They list 2 versions of the 9800 Pro - one with 256MB DDR and one with 256MB GDDR2. The first I recognize, but the second isn't familiar. Anyone?
