2 parts here, the Digital FM Transmitter and the FM Transmitter Mobile Accessory Kit.

This unit will broadcast an FM signal 70 ft. from your XM unit, and if you add the car mount kit you are looking at about a $100.00 solution. It makes it so you can use a standard FM walkman and not damage you precious XM unit.

I just wish they could get this up to about 150 ft.

I have the model that this is the upgrade to, although I will probably get this because mine is an analog tuner instead of the nice digital one.
Take a piece of thin wire about 1.5 times longer then the antenna itself. Take a bit off one end, wrap it a few time around the top of the antenna. Mine gets me about 200ft. Sounds great.

dumb question, but how exactly are you attatching the wire? Are you kind of wrapping it around the antenna sort of like the way a spring looks and then extending it above the unit? And also, what kind of wire are you using?

I just want to make sure I can get the transmitting distance. I do residential remodeling and 200 feet should just about cover any situation.

Not just jobsites....

If anyone here owns a retail business, especially coffee shops, pizza places etc, they should DEFINITELY do this, pass the word on to your clientele, and watch them POUR in wearing walkmans. :walk2:

Like you said I wrap it around like a spring a few times. Maybe three or four times, just enough to make sure it is tight and does not fall off. Then extend it above the unit.

As for the type of wire, it was just a thin piece of speaker wire I had lying around my lab/workshop. Not sure of the gauge, I'll have to get that for you later.

This could work for me at work, if I park close enough to where I sit...
How long does it last on the 2 AA batteries?
Does this transmit farther than if I got the XM tuners with the Fm transmitter built in?

Hey Rick, as stated by Guysdrinkingbeer, you'll get up to 200 ft. using this transmitter the way he has it set up. I believe the unit has an adapter that allows you to plug in to your lighter in the vehicle. But of course the Roady2 plugs into the lighter too, so you'll need to get the 2 plug-in adapter.

The Roady2 with the built in FM transmitter only sends signal about 15-20 feet from your car MAX.

Only 15-20 feet? Thanks, I am glad I did not go with that solution. This transmitter sounds like what I need.
