Just wondering what everyone's favorite Horror games are. Figured I'd ask since its Halloween. I just picked up "The Suffering" last week, 20 bucks for XBOX. I was just playing that this morning for like 4 hours....great game. Might be my favorite Horror game of all time. The whole prison thing is a great setting. For those of you in the Philly area, it will remind you a lot of Eastern State. Well whats everyone elses favorites??

Doom 3 is pretty fucking scary. I also like the original Legacy of Kain for the Playstation.

it's not really scary but it is something that goes with halloween. I liked BloodRayne and I still have yet to get BloodRayne 2. Nothing like chopping up and eating Nazis

I've actually played some of this game.(the original) One of my friends has it for XBOX. I liked it but I never really got into it to much. It was indeed scary. There is some freaky shit in that game

Just picked up Fatal Frame 2 along with Condemned. I'm playing FEAR right now on the 360 and was looking for some older budget titles to check out. Any others for PS2 and Xbox anyone recommends?

Holy old thread Batman!

But seriously. RE3 used to get me all the time. I want to get the Fatal Frame games too.

There was this game I used to play on my hella old 486 cpu, circa 1990-1992ish, don't quite remember. Forget what it was called. Had humans changing into all kind of Giger-esque aliens in it. Creeped me the fuck out cause I was a lil kid and was playing it in a dark old basement.

I picked up Fatal Frame 2 because it's supposedly better than the original. Once I beat FEAR I'll probably tackle it. That's one thing I love about Gamestop, you can find these older titles fairly easily (of course used). If they are not at the store you go to they most likely have it at another nearby. I think condemned and fatal frame 2 cost me a total of 25 bucks.

A real creepy game, if you can find it, The Call of Cthulhu. It's based on an HP Lovecraft Novel. It's a FPS but more adventure oriented, because you barely have any real weapons in most of the game. I don't think it sold that well but it was one of the scariest games I've ever played.

Ah, buried thread treasure!

Not much more to say about Resident Evil - 4 is one of the greatest games ever created, and I've loved the series as a whole since that very first fucking zombie turned his head and leered at me with that one eye.

Silent Hill is the product of a bunch of sick, twisted minds...the 2nd game is a fantastic standalone title, but to appreciate the 3rd one, you have to be familiar with the story of the first game, which is very hard to find these days. This series is also responsible for the first truly good adaptation of a video game into a movie.

Fatal Frame is, and I don't throw this word around lightly, TERRIFYING. Even more than Silent Hill, I have to honestly take a deep breath and will myself into playing this at night. If ever there were games that honestly made you sweat and raise your pulse while you played, this is the one to check out.

I did play Call of Cthulhu, and as much as the story was intriguing me (I've read some Lovecraft stuff myself), I gave up on the game because it got beyond the point of being challenging and was simply annoying. I realize it's supposed to seem more realistic without a lot of strength and weapons, but when seven villagers are bearing down on you with shotguns and you have nowhere to run, I said "fuck it" and bought some of his books instead.

Damnit, I kept meaning to get Fatal Frame, and eventually ended up with Still Life by accident. Holy shit, was that game a waste of time.

Does Manhunt count? I love that game to death.

How about Friday the 13th for NES? I know most people hate it, but for some reason, I have always loved the hell out of that game.

7th Guest, too. I mean, it's not really horror, but there are ghosts, mystery, and (for the time) really slick graphics.

Harvester was pretty fucked up, too.

I think the only time I've ever been frightened by anything in a game was in RE1, waaaay back when , I had it for PC, and the first time one of those fucking dogs jumped through the window, I was totally not expecting it, and jumped. Also, the first time I played Doom 3, there were plenty of jump moments in it.

edit: wow. you really can tell when I'm drunk posting. Aside from normal rambling, my posts triple in size.

I suck.

Plus how can someone not love the dogshit dialogue from RE1 especially between Jill and Barry in the beginning.

RE1 remake is a scary fucking game, RE4 may not be as "scary" but it is one of the greatest games ever made.

RE franchise has to win

F.E.A.R. was a good game with ALOT of creepy shit in it

You are not the only one, I remember playing it late at night one night and I actually let out a yell and I woke up my mom... what a pussy I am

Shit, I was 18 and playing it in the middle of the day. Let's talk about who's a pussy.

Actually, let's not.

edit: Good Christ, I was just reading up on the series....I had to have been 19 or 20. I REALLY suck.

Why no mention of Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem... for the gamecube, that came was fucking creepy as shit, even with the Sanity Meter maxed. The mansion was the worst part when the game would fuck with you with screams, and you couldn't open the door, or other noises.. I can't even think about it.

F.E.A.R. was good. The absolute worse part that made me jump out my chair, was when going through the cubicles later in the game, and a phone rings to your left.. naturally, you would turn.. THEN THAT FUCKING CREEPY KID WITH THE SPIDER WALK COMES AT YOU. Freaked me the fuck out. It was a shame that the expansion pack wasn't as scary, though the ending was decent.. although kind of annoying.

FEAR had some great sound, noises that would come all slow and out of one speaker and shit. I was really impressed with that aspect of the game

Shit, I feel bad for not mentioning Eternal Darkness. That game also had some of the best voice acting I think I've ever heard in a video game. If you really want to scare the shit out of yourself, take the sanity meter down a bit and go into the bathroom of the mansion. Examine the bathtub. Trust me.

The best part about the Resident Evil remake was all the moments that, as a fan of the series, you were expecting to happen, but they DIDN'T. Case in point - the dog hallway. The fucking glass chips, but it doesn't break...until you try and go back through it a second time. Capcom loves fucking with us.

And for the 360 owners who for some reason haven't played Condemened: Criminal Origins, for fuck's sake, go get it. It's only $25 used and has some of the most vicious melee first-person fighting in a shooting game. You get guys screaming "FUCK YOU!" completely drugged out on crack as they try and smash you in the face with a bat, pipe, whatever they can get their hands on. You have to block them with perfect timing, and then smash their faces with some of the same weapons.

Its an old pic, I used it for a while as a sig on another board I'm a member of, but I thought it completely appropriate for this particular venue. Never been to SA.com, so I can't say I took it from there. I found it in someone's Photobucket back in the day.

As a matter of fact, I did, and finally got my hands on a gun when it happened. I made it through the escape on the truck, and after that section is when I finally gave up.

Indigo Prophecy is a great, underrated horror game

Not just that, it has one of the greatest storylines ever written for a game. I bought it on the good reviews, took it home, and didn't stop playing it until I finished it about 12 hours later. I have never gotten so engrossed into a game's plot like that before.

I spent 2 solid days loaded on Vicadin (recovering from an accident injury) playing Silent Hill 3 on the PS2 and getting so scared and freaked out that I was shaking like a pussy. I want to be that scared again but I don't want to use the drugs to get there. Silent Hill 5 for the PS3 is supposed to be really messed up... can't wait.
