A clip from the AP article about the mighty Ivory Coasts surprise attack on the French military:
<<France hit back, destroying what it said was the entire Ivory Coast air force — two Russian-made Sukhoi jets used in the bombing and five helicopter gunships. France scrambled three Mirage fighter jets to West Africa and ordered about 300 troops to ready for deployment in Ivory Coast. >>
God, how bad does the Ivory Coast look now? Thier entire airforce was destroyed in a surprise attack against a small French outpost. And to retaliate the French are sending in a whopping 300 troops.

If their vintage Soviet attack planes didn't send the French running out of the country, their angry rock and tree-branch wielding mobs should do the trick.
Of course, the other side of this story is that you could have two Su-25s flying over a camp of soldiers, the ability to drop a shitload of bombs on them, and you only were able to get 8 kills. I don't know which military is shittier in this case. About a draw.

Didn't those wacky Frenchmen (with their spitballs and rubberband slingshots) help us out during the Revolutionary War? I'm not saying we couldn't have won without them, but that may have just been enough to scare off the British. I'm not very good with my US History, so I may be wrong.

At least not until it became clear that we could win. Those faggots kept us twisting in the wind expecting help and they didn't give us shit until we kicked enough ass on our own.

Those faggots kept us twisting in the wind expecting help and they didn't give us shit until we kicked enough ass on our own.Yeah, and until we got to a point where we couldn't have won without them. Some French military came over to fight along side our troops early on. The long wait was for the French Navy, which was the only Navy at the time that could stand up to the British Navy which was blocking ports and transporting troops throughout the colonies.
They did for us what we are doing for Iraq now.
If it weren't for the French, we'd all be speaking British and sipping tea now.:icon_roll
Ironically, the British spread their military (which was the greatest since the Roman Empire) so thin throughout the world that they eventually collapsed to become the irrelevant player in the world's politics. The next great military in history is our current force. It's like that historian once said, "Those who do not know the past are doomed to repeat it."
Following the French Revolution, the French had their Foreign Legion, which was a crack military force for the time, similar to a Special Forces type of group for the time.
Hate the French for opposing our current president's actions, but at least be accurate about their contributions to this country and the world in history. You don't have to like them, but don't buy into the revisionist history BS.

If it weren't for the French, we'd all be speaking British and sipping tea now.How can one argue with such a statement??
The fact of the matter was that British Navy played a small part in the Revolutionary war. The war was fought over connecting land and we did not require ships to move troops and supplies. It was our hope that the French would help create a blockade to deny troops and supplies coming in for the British but it never happened the way we had hoped and the French had promised. Fortunately for us the British government felt that fighting the Spanish for Central American and Mexican gold was more important than supporting their troops in the colonies and the British never did adequately supply their war effort here. As for French troops, there were some, but they were volunteers and not the French regular army. (as promised) The French government only sent over a few advisors. The Prussians were actually more of a help in our war effort than the French. That's why the town next to Valley Forge is named King of Prussia and not King of France.

Actually, it was the Germans (aka Prussians) who really helped turn it around. General Von Steuben turned the Continental Army into a disciplined group. Aside from that, and the invention of beer, the Germans, much like the French are irrelevant. Who else would follow an Austrian, half jewish fellow blindly into oblivion.

you however are forgeting the French lead by Lafeyate(spelled wrong) convinced france's royal family to send their armada to destroy the british navy who were blockading the coloniesThis was fought on our home land. The blockades were a minor problem. Much of what we used were in the homes and fields of this country. The British depended on their ships, we didn't really even have a navy to worry about. That's not to say that Lafayette wasn't a great man. But even he came as a volunteer, not sent by the French government.
