Why is Best Buy selling the SkyFi2 for $199 ($169 sale) and Curcuit City selling it for $129 ($99 sale)?

Are you sure CC is selling the SkyFi2 for that price and not the SkiFi?

No, those are the prices listed on their web sites. I think the $169 must be a mistake, though. The Best Buy circular in today's paper had the SkyFi 2 listed for $129, and that's the list price on XM's site. I wouldn't buy it from Best Buy's web site, though. I have no idea what their policy is on things like that, and it would suck to pay $40 more than you have to.

I was at Circuit City on Saturday and the sales people are so misinformed about the XM. Although this guy was a howard fan. He was saying XM is cheaper but you have to pay for most of the channels. They only reason they didn't have the channels on the XM is because it was a demo unit. None of the channels with swearing were on. He also said Sirius is the better of the 2 because they have 3 sats. Then some older gentleman came in to get the XM cause of baseball. The salesdick still tried to talk him into getting Sirius.

Do you think Sirius might be offering kickbacks to the sales guys?

Years ago, when I used to work retail, we'd get "incentives" for nearly all the big ticket items... and a number of smaller ones that they focused on that month. Usually nothing more than 2 or 3 bucks for each one sold.
But both companies are using incentives and kickbacks to get their shit sold. If not to the sales associates directly, at least to the auto manufacturers... look at this:

Dated 9/26/04
http://www.tennessean.com/business/archives/04/09/58386014.shtml

XM and Sirius are forecasting that next year they'll begin bringing in more money than they're spending, based largely on projections for customer growth.

One of the biggest expenses for both companies is the cost of acquiring new subscribers through marketing, advertising and promotions such as kickbacks to auto manufacturers to install satellite receivers.

XM spent $101 last quarter to acquire each new subscriber; Sirius spent $234 because of promotions like free receivers. Quarter to quarter, those costs are shrinking, and the companies also point to decreasing turnover among subscribers — currently 1.6% for Sirius and 1.1% for XM.

XM ended the second quarter with a $166 million net loss. It expects to end the year with a $300 million loss. Sirius posted a quarterly net loss of $136.8 million and said consensus analyst estimates put its loss for the year at $450 million.

It's common-practice for stuff to be "spiffed" where the sales dick will get an extra $5/$10 for selling a particular product.

Or, he just mighe be an uninformed douche who like you said is a Stern fan and is just trying to steer people that way...

the sky fi 2 prices are accurate.. It is much cheaper at circuit city. My buddy went yesterday to best buy , and then circuit city, and there was a huge difference in price. Circuit city is much cheaper.

bring the CC ad to BB and pricematch... they'll match the price and then give you 10% of the difference back.

side note: they were out of home kits, but I went to CC and got an original skyfi home kit (still works w/ skyfi2) and they were on sale for $49 down from $69

That would make sense, but I'd confirm it with one of the know nothings that work there.

A few months ago, after the announcement, when I went to by my roady2 at best buy I asked if they had any kind of home kit for it and the guy told me that there is no such thing and the roady2 will only work in your car. Fucking retards.

I just checked that link to the best buy website, and it is a bit misleading. I didn't see any reference to the car kit, but it does say it has a remote. When I got mine, I didn't even check the website, I just happened to be in there and saw it. It was in one box, and inside was the receiver in its own package, the car kit in another separate package, and the remote. It was 169.99 and just to throw another twist into this clusterfuck, when I got home I checked the receipt and realized they only charged me 161.

Totally off topic here, but the local news is on in the background and it seems the girl who says Kobe Bryant "engaged in sexual intercourse with her sans consent" is trying to get the civil case filed in california so she can get more money out of him. HAAA HAAAA... its tha bitches that'll getchaz!!!!

I got into talking to the car stereo guy in my local best buy when I was purchasing an additional unit for the girl... what started out as a decent discussion basically became annoying as this was another stern fan, talking up the multi sattelite doggy company setup, and basically trying to talk the roady out of my hand. This was complete b.s. to me coming from a company that advertises the fact that it's employee's do not work on commision, and will not try to sway your decision process. I can only imagine the number of ill informed consumers who now have a 30 lb doggy unit arc welded to their leased vehicles now due to people like this.

I thought about contacting xm and letting them know that their distributors are allowing sales staff to talk customers out of a purchase, and then I realized that I really only care about myself anyway.

Think about it though. I could kill three birds with one stone.
1. Extra Cash
2. Discounts on some cool shit
3. Talk people into buying XM and subscribing to the O&A show. Bring my SkyFi in to work so everyone can listen to it.

I'd be smarter than them about Siruis too. These fuckin jizzbags. He was actually telling people that they would be able to use it any car and that XM is harder to hookup. HMMMM...Built in FM modulator. You cna buy the Power adaptor with an FM Modulator built in to plug in the docking stations. When I was awya on business I brought the home kit, home antenna, and the cigarette power adaptor. It's called MacGyvering it.
I don't care about being smarter than the other sales dicks. I'll tell people they get free blowjobs from the hooker around the corner if they buy and subscribe to X&M and O&A. I will lie just like those fuckers pushing the Little Fucking Doggie Company. I really fucking hate there shit. When I was CC getting my dads radio installed I was there for 2 hours. It honestly looks like fucking oscilloscopes I used to use at my old fuckin jobs with the knobs.

Sorry..........I farted

Fuck CC & BB. I hate dealing with both of them. It's like dealing with a car salesman. All they want is to make the sale and get you to buy shit you don't want.
It's all about the comission. They are always hawking the extended warranty, and extra cable or what ever. I got my stuff on Ebay. For $250 i got the Skifi, car kit, home kit, wireless FM modulator, and Boombox. It was a great deal.

I got another one from Best Buy today, and it was unbelievable:

I was just wasting time wandering the store and someone asked if I needed any help. I asked if they had any of those kits to hard wire a skyfi power cable to a car so you didn't have to use the cig. lighter. I knew they wouldn't have it, the only place I've seen them is online stores like Ziggys store, etc. but I just thought I'd ask as alternative to the standard "no, just looking".

The guy actually told me that all I have to do is cut the end off of the cigarette lighter and splice it into my car's 12v power supply.

adapter drops the voltage down. Hard wiring using the cord may fry

Buster's right, and I should have clarified in my post for those who may read it and not know any better. My main point was yet another one to pile on about how most BB & CC employees don't know what the fuck they're talking about.

Most of them are brain dead.

But if you are lucky, you can search out for the one person in the store with half of a brain, (the gifted one).

I am working part time at Best Buy, Home Theater department..I can assure you that regular sales people get nothing for selling anything. Managers make bonueses based on Accessories (like monster cable) and Service plans. Basically us peons offer service plans because we don't want to get harassed by our managers.
