Well this is supposed to be the game of the year. It will have to compete with all the other great ones though. It comes out next week and I have it preordered. Anthony has talked about this already a little bit. I can't wait for it. The half-life game doesn't actually have multiplayer but it comes with Counter-Strike Source for free which will be the multiplayer. Anyone else getting it?

Even if you might not play any of the new source games, it is still nifty to get the whole back catalog of Valve software for a extra 10 bucks.

I stopped playing HL/DoD when BF1942 came out so I'm completly in the dark about Steam. Will DoD only be available through them?

Ask them if the collectors edition gives you access to the complete back catalog. If not you will want to order though Steam.

Like I said, I'm completly in the dark about what Steam even is. If you could explain why I should go through them instead of my EB pre-order I'd appreciate it. If its simply a matter of getting it a day sooner then I can wait. Thanks

Just a quick question about the Steam download: is there a way to burn the download to a CD, so I don't lose it if my computer dies?

Its a HUGE program...if your computer dies you just download again and use you username and password. It will automatically DL and update whatever games you have.

Then you're really going to hate installing the game, easily the longest installation process I have ever sat through. Just when you think you're done installing it then goes into an 'unlocking' of the files :arrrh: I swear I think the unlocking took longer than the initial install.

yes well worth the wait. So far Amazing the detail is eyeboggling. I was somewhat dissappointed in how you get started though. The first one with push the sample and than all hell broke loose had my hair standing on end. this time was expecting it.

Glad I bought that expensive video card. The character animation and lips sync is close to perfect. I'm having a lot more fun playing this than Doom 3.

Counter-Strike: Source is nice but its the same exact game with the updated engine.

I just ignored the chopper and ran like hell was more intent on getting those fucking flying buzzsaws. also Save you ammo on the barnecls let them pick you up and crowbar the basterds as you get close no health lost and you save your ammo.

ok.. I beat HL2 already.. it takes so long to load.. then again I'm playing it on my laptop with a 4200 RPM HD. I heard with Doom 3 that you can unpack the files and it runs a lot faster.. I'm going to try the same thing with HL2 and see if that works.

Watching the E3 movies they released last year helped me quite it bit in solving problems. This is one area thats a good example.

I beat it early this morning, it gets pretty hard even on the "normal" setting during some of the battles. I haven't played it on hard nor do I want to, but I was not pleased with the ending at all...skillwise or storywise.. I guess it's hard to end a game like this one...but shit....if I would of went to a movie with an ending like this, my 64oz cup of coke syrup would be flying at the screen. Don't get me wrong...I love this game and think it ranks among the best ever, but every gamer is going to bitch about something in a game as highly anticipated as hl2. Definitely worth my 45 bucks, and cs:s has some glitches that need working on but it has potential once they are fixed. That's what i'll be playing until the next whore comes along.

I beat HL2 the other day, I was very let down. When I got to the tower and started seeing the new character slaves and the new giant beatles and small beatles that weren't in the game earlier I thought "cool, I'm coming near the final drive to the end, everything'll go ape shit from here" but was it ape shit? No it wasn't. Did I feel let down thinking there was another few hours till the ending of the game like there should have been? Yes I did. There should have been more, you should have somehow followed that guy into another universe and have a few boards of new monsters and strange alien levels getting to him, not him in a teleporter with 2 gunships. I felt VERY let down.

I just finished playing some HL2 Deathmatch.. Best to take the GRAVITY gun and smack someone to death with a URINAL... :) There are hundreds of servers online. I was playing with 13 other people and there was no lag on the server I was on.

Yup, deathmatch was extremely fun when it wasn't laggy. Grav gun = loads of fun kills. My favs are snatching out stuff tossed at me in mid air and slamming them into the guy who threw em. Also using the gun to push cars into people and squishing them.

Oh I like CS....just wasn't visually extravagant as the demo movie from over the summer. Still a great game though.

I loved HL2 (hated the ending though)... am really enjoying the shit out of Deathmatch... The death animations alone are worth playing it.. Nothing like shooting some rebar with the crossbow and watching someone get impaled to a wall. This game fucking OWNS.

I figured it out.. If you unplug from the net and then run STEAM it drops down to "OFFLINE" mode.
