always puts the word "the" before a noun when you dont usually put "the" there?

Example:

"Eh, not too happy with the Halo"

"I looove the Redbull"

I'm pretty sure its got to be a regional thing...where you think he picked that up? Long Island? Boston?

I'm from around the tri-state area and I've heard people say it too, I say it sometimes every once in a while as a goof and the only people who look at me funny are usually people not from around here. Maybe it's just a NJ, NYC, LI thing.

Opie jumbles his words all the time, norton used to bust him on every single mush mouthed fuck up but he lightened up so they can get on with the show. I can just see norton and ant look at each other when opie marbles a word. I think the "the" thing is intentional

And norton correcting Opie is fucken hilarious...Opie never used to be so mush-mouthed until norton was there ragging on him every time. You just know Opie is always on edge, trying so hard not to fuck up cuz he knows norton is there to trash him, which only makes him even more nervous.

Hilarious.

And no, Opie, I'm not bashing you. I call my girlfriend mush-mouth. Its a term of endearment.

Luv ya

Alot of people I know often put an extaneous "the" in front of other things. I've done it myself. It's no big deal.

"Yea, I'm liking the XM."

as opposed to

"Yea, I like XM."

Come on, everyone knows the Jersey Shore and everything else in South Jersey might as well be sent on over to Pennsylvania anyway.

And on that note, I'm off to the bar for some shots of the jager.

"So.. you enjoy the Arliss?"

I don't think its a regional thing. Just one of those fad things....picked up from a movie or tv show. Maybe The Rock had something to do with it? lol

"So.. you enjoy the Arliss?"Letterman does that all the time . . . "So Tom, tell me about your new movie, the Mission Impossible". I noticed it a long time ago. Nobody I know on Long Island does it, so I don't know where it comes from.

It's all good? Way to spit that 1994 lingo, Captin Kangaroo. :icon_wink

I do it sometimes too, say the before a noun. It's silly.

Try being a "west coast jizzbag" like myself and go to the east coast or midwest and say "hella" every fourth word like we love to do out here. We have no idea how fucking gay we sound.

Oh yeah, anthony can go ahead and quote Fargo for four hours straight every day and I'll be one happy son of a bitch. "he's fleeing the interview, he's fleeing the interview, Yaaaaaah!" That shit is fucking hilarious.

iSpeakEloquent
11-10-2004, 11:16 PM
its not a regional thing, its just an expression. You hear it more with the upper class people referring to something. "We like the Ron and Fez" "I got a show here on the NBC" I'm not too much into the anal sex"

iSpeakEloquent

also when i think about it i hear pepe le pue saying it in my head so maybe it originates from a frenchman trying to speak english "I have...what do americans call....the full blow aids?"

On the Seinfeld TV show there were a lot of people who used the same mannerisms. "Gotta love the Drake" for example.

You guys keep Fucking with Opie he's going to "but" is foot up your ass.

Remember when Opie said "A River Run Throughs It (I think)" and Norton says something like "Your the star of the show, just add an "S" wherever you feel it's neccesary." Opie's awful command of the English language makes for great radio.

The "The" thing is regional IMO. A north-east thing.

In Jersey we went "Down da shore" here in Maryland they "Go to the Beach".

Noone says beach in jersey!

Bzzzt. Wrong. Only the fucking shitbags that come 'down the shore' and shit up our towns over the summer call it 'Down Da Shore'. Any locals call it the beach.

OK, No one is going to like to hear this but I think its from Sex and the City. I think Carrie used to say that all the time. Also some men on the show, too. Sorry guys. OK, I'm braced for the backlash-don't hit me too hard. wince, wince.

I've actually found myself doing that now, and I know I caught it from Op (at least I think I did), but I thought he picked it up from Mario Cantone.
