We all know by now based on countless postings on this site that the first set of music that is played before the show is called "Ecstacy of Gold" and its from the movie "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly". I am a big movie lover and have seen a lot of movies but I never saw GBU. I rented it last nite and I was very curious to see what scene Ecstacy of Gold came up in.
Over all I loved the movie but I have to say I was interested with the scene the music came up in. To anyone who hasnt seen the movie, "Ugly" is running around a graveyard looking for a particular headstone which is supposed to have $200,000 buried in it.
It sorta got me thinking after finishing the film, what does that song mean as far as O&A goes. I came up with 3 things...
1-someone is running around looking for O&A's grave to revive their careers (coming to XM)
2-O&A are running around this cemetary of radio stations looking for their cash cow
3-its a cool fucking song.. thats as far as they looked into it.
I myself would like to think its #2... just curious to see if anyone else has thought of why they play that song.

I think it's because Metallica plays it at the beginning of their concerts and it really sets the mood.

Gay song?
I think your the only person I know that doesnt like it, and a lot of people I know who heard that on Metallica's S&M concert LOVED that song and had no idea it was from a movie.
And yes, they were straight guys. You dont see too many faggots going to Metallica concerts.

High Plains Drifter is my all time favorite Clint Eastwood movie. Sort of a "The Good The Bad and The ugly" in the Twighlight Zone.

i think it sorta killed it for me to think that they are playing it just because metallica plays it.
:icon_cry: :icon_cry: :icon_cry: I guess deep down inside I wanted it to be more :icon_cry: :icon_cry: :icon_cry:

:icon_evil I was flipping through the channels and GBU was on. It was normal tv with commercials but I flipped to it right before the cemetary scene. Not only did they break for a commercial when Ugly first stumbles into the cemetary but when they came back from commercial he was digging the grave allready cutting out the whole scene with Ecstacy of Gold. Then they shortened the whole 3 way gun standoff by making it only last about 10 sec. It totally killed all the built up tension and anticipation of whats going to happen. I hate regular TV.. they know how to kill movies.

That, and, the Islanders used to play that song before the start of each home game, so, you know Op knows it.
