E-Voting fucked in Indiana (http://www.indystar.com/articles/3/193880-4433-093.html)
Indianapolis Star
"Election equipment counted straight-party votes for Democratic candidates as Libertarian votes, an error that could affect election outcomes in as many as nine counties, the Richmond Palladium-Item reported today. Democrats discovered the error in Franklin County, where ballots will be counted again tonight. The county's election equipment vendor, Fidlar, notified officials Wednesday of the error." E-Voting fucked in North Carolina (http://www.heraldtribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20041112/APN/411120526)

"North Carolina's election has staggered to a finish for nine days. Final results have been delayed by lost ballots, votes eaten by a computer and disputes over the count of provisional ballots... Two statewide races - for agriculture commissioner and the superintendent of public instruction - remained unresolved, with narrow margins separating the major-party candidates... The most noteworthy problem has been the permanent loss of 4,532 early ballots in coastal Carteret County. A machine used to store electronic ballots ran out of storage space and county officials mistakenly continued to try to save ballots to it. The manufacturer, UniLect Corp. of California, erroneously told elections officials that the early voting unit's storage capacity was 10,500 votes. Instead, only 3,005 ballots out of 7,537 were saved. State elections officials have said that the glitch could result in a new statewide election for races that end with a margin smaller than the 4,532 votes that were lost." Read article... These have been coming out of the wood work since election day.

Regardless of which way the election fell, and which way your beliefs and political leanings are... You have to admit that in the 21st century, the greatest country in the world needs a much more reliable system for voting.
I mean come on, wasn't Lincoln elected by poking holes in little pieces of paper, and when was the last time a proprietary piece of software really worked well?
How about a system where you vote via a networked electronic machine. The machine then spits out a serial number when you're done, with a copy of what you're selections were. Then if you want to double-check you're vote just enter your serial number into a database after election day, and the votes have been counted. Although that's probably not so secure either... Hey where the boobies at...

As devisive as this election was, it wouldn't have mattered what the outcome... one side or the other would have been complaining that the votes were rigged, people cheated, ballots werent counted, etc...

I say, get over it already. you dont have to like the outcome of the election, but its over and done with, and in 4 years we get to try again.

What we really need is a nationwide election. US government to standardize things all over rather than lettting each state decided what to use for voting. I still prefer the old pull the lever down metal machines with the curtain and all.
