"Detectives in Taunton are investigating a case in which a man allegedly burned his girlfriend's 19-month-old boy with a cigarette lighter. Alan Johnson, of Taunton, was charged Friday in District Court with four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon... Police said Johnson burned Matthew Kruse as he baby-sat him Thursday night. When the mother, Jennifer Kruse, returned home, she asked about the burn marks. Johnson allegedly explained that the baby went into a seizure and using his lifeguard training, he tried to use the lighter to raise the boy's body temperature to snap him out of it. Matthew was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital. Doctors found second-degree burns on his legs, abdomen and other parts of the body. Also Friday, Jennifer Kruse was granted a restraining order against Johnson. She claims he also burned her."
