Its based on the fact that he's always making akward comments to his friends in public. Calling everyone cupcake, sweety, etc. in the bathroom, elevator, etc.

its ripping on Don when Freda calls...
wow...how do you guys not know that? The ripping of Don is the "Love ya Opie, Love ya Anthony, Love ya Boo Boo" More recently, Lil Jimmy has added the Heye boo boo to the cute and cuddly introductions.

Thats not it, but a very good guess. It has to do with Norton and Vos talking to each other, and how Norton gives Opie the bathroom treatment,

i always thought that Vos talked sweet to Jimmy as a way to rip on Don and Freda.
I think we have a chicken and the egg thing going on here.

Incorrect. If you had bothered to read my post, you would see that I addressed this. As time has gone on, Lil Jimmy has started calling people the pet name "boo boo". HOWEVER, the question was about the origin, not the evolution...

Nope. He does it off air too. Its just like the "Hey mister, you dropped something" bit. Just made to confuse and make people feel uncomfortable around strangers. Just like lil Jimmy rubbing Opies back saying, "Its ok baby, don't be mad at me." in the elevator last week.

Howard Stern invented the english language which evolved into pet names. And Don & Frida stole it from Howard. Which Norton eventually stole from Frida.

i always thought it was people reacting to norton when he says hi to them. back in the wnew days he used to try to make them feel uncomfortable by saying "hi sweetie" or something of that nature. it just evolved into a funny inside thing with norton and the callers, thats my take on it at least ;p

totally busting on Fat & Unfunny the first time i remember hearing it was shortly after Don called into the show to try and fight with them about ratings, etc...
Don called in and Op' would just hang up on him, he did it like 5 times before he stopped calling f'n classic. I also believe that anthony ranted about it, if its still up there check out "name of the game" clip on oavirus if not ask ed to post all of the D&M/O&A on air fight stuff, if its not up PM me and I can try to e-mail it to you...
I'm punching out now sweetums...

I think it's just old school goofing around, and to throw off some callers.
