It's a nice break from the usual garbage on TV these days. Very compelling drama.

Hardcore fan here. There is ONE common theme amongst ALL the survivors of the flight, who are still alive on the island. All are good people who have a checkered past but now have a chance to redeem themselves.

They ran the Locke flashback this past week. It was very interesting, and a twist I didn't expect. Hesitant to post it here so I don't roon it for anyone that taped it, but if you want to know, just holler.

it is a alright, but nothing compared to j.j. abrams other show - alias, which owns.
Lost is the first show since E.R. that has been able to captivate me from episode one. That's such a rarity with today's watered-down, abysmal brand of television. I'm looking forward to Sawyer getting his ass kicked again, and also wouldn't be opposed to seeing Shannon WOW. (OK, wishful thinking.)

hey Bach thanks but i all ready know the twist with Locke, my brother in law filled me in on the episode. I cant believe they re aired it and I missed it a second time, d oh. I would liked to see an issue of Playboy with the girls of Lost. A guy can dream.
also to keep this thread going who is everyones favorite character? I would go with Sawyer. What a great scum bag.
Sawyer is the quintessential scumbag, indeed. He plays it well too. I'm not going to say Jack is my favorite just because he's the main character/hero. I kind of like Charlie and was glad they didn't kill him off. I thought it was great the way he chose his guitar over his drugs, when Locke was helping him detox. I have alot of respect for anyone that has that much passion for music.

Sawyer is slowly starting to become a hero. He became everything he hated(con artist) and he now has the chance to redeem himself. Lost seems to play out like a book, and to me is the most captivating new drama since 24 premiered.

I saw the first episode and really liked it. Unfortunately I have to work when it is on and my VCR was stolen from the Firehouse by some lameass with no taste... they took the VCR and left the xbox and Dvd player I had there
I wouldn't mind seeing them delve deeper into characters such as the black guy and his son, and the brother of the hot chick. They seem very vestigial thus far.

I'm still wondering who/what Ethan is. Connected to the French woman in some way?
Good question. Not really sure. The French woman was supposedly there for 16 years, according to Sayid. So let's say she was a young adult when she got there -- 30 perhaps. She'd be 46 now, dead or alive. Now if Ethan arrived with the French woman, it's a reasonable assumption that they'd be contemporaries in age, give or take a few years. No way he's 46 now, based on his appearance. I'm thinking the French woman's message might be a false lead, but Ethan did arrive there through another means, after the French woman a-lleg-edly got there. Of course this is just complete speculation, but it's fun to do so with shows like this. Any other theories?

My first thought was, they are all in purgatory or limbo. There are just too many questions to be answered.
I had missed the first two episodes until the recent recaps. I can't figure out how the hell they can explain a polar bear in the South Pacific.
I've gone back and fourth but my theory is, they're all dead.
I was kind of pissed that Charlie survived the lynching. I thought it made great television when they turned the corner and he was just hanging, lifeless. I felt was a little cliche that Jack brought him back to life, but they did it well.
Nevertheless, it's still a great show and I will be there until the end.

never saw the show.. actually never even heard of it. what is it about?
A plane crash in the middle of the South Pacific.
They were flying from Australia to LA. The survivors are trying to figure out where they are and how they can be rescued. Everyone has a past and each week one certain character's story is told through flashback. There are a lot of strange happenings on the island that, it would seem, have no explanation. All in all it's a well written show. I was hooked against my will.
never saw the show.. actually never even heard of it. what is it about?
It's on Wednesdays at 8 on ABC. The premise is a bit Survivor-like, only it's for real, not a game. The plane that crashed was off course and the search parties are looking in the wrong place, so there's no chance of rescue. They've got to fend for themselves and learn to live with people that have alot of skeletons in their real-life closets. It's really quite the captivating drama.

Yes, Kate shot her bank robbery partner. She told Jack the toy plane "belonged to the man I love." Then she started bawling with no other explanation. Wonder whose flashback will be next.

Good point on the bro and sis as next week's focus. They're both becoming more prime characters. I'm wondering what the brother is up to with Locke and what the "revelation" will be. Maybe they were lovers? Nah, wouldn't fly with network execs, but would be fun for the rest of us. :icon_mrgr

My original theory of the the show was that everyone was dead. I have another.
I think that the entire island is a ship or submarine. After watching the new episode on the 5th, there was the unusal shifting of the tide, the fucking Polar Bear from the 2nd episode, and the metal of some sort that Locke and the other kid(the brother) found under the ground in the last episode of December before they broke for the holidays.
Of course they didn't answer any of the cliffhangers from the previous episode. WTF

I don't think we'll find out what happens to Claire for a few more episodes. As for Sayid and Boone, I think Boone doesn't care - he felt relieved, remember? Locke said he had "let go", and they went off into the woods. Of course, the show is set up in such a way to make you think they're gonna go nuts and kill somebody. I think Locke is a good character - they're gonna go figure out the door.

Anyone tune in this week? Okay so Walt is "different" which leaves things some things open. Since "things happen when he's around" is he responsible for the plane going down in the first place? How unexpected was the scene where Michael got plowed by the car? Claire's back, and she doesn't look pregnant anymore, although I could be wrong because it was nighttime, shadows and such. Locke is still the best character on the show. Boone's coming across like a protective boyfriend lol. And a side note, Walt's flared nostrils distracted the hell out of me in most of the scenes.

I'm glad they've shown repeats the last two weeks. I've just start up school again for the semester and unfortunately, I have class on Wednesdays from 7-9:30pm. So, I miss Lost every week. Although, there are two people usually taping it for me, so I do still get to see it. I've yet to watch the taped episode of Walt's background, though, from reading the posts, it sounds like it was a good one.
My mother saw a preview tonight for the new episode and said it looked like a good episode this week.
My favorite character on the show is definitely Charlie. I don't know if that stems from me being a huge LOTR geek or if it is because I just love Domenic's character on the show. Charlie just seems so sweet and innocent at times. At times, he seems to be the only one not acting like he's stuck on an island. Before the whole ordeal with Claire, and with the exception for the episode with him detoxing, his main role on the island seems to be boosting everyon else's morale. He seems to cheer people up, mainly Claire.
I love this show, especially the way it keeps you hanging. As much as I yell and curse at the TV when I watch it because I want to know what happens next, I always come back for more.

Well last night was quite the interesting episode. Now that Ethan's dead, I wonder what the new plot twist will be. Possibly some of his "friends" picking up where he left off?
I'm thinking that Ethan was the French woman's son. I would say she's out for revenge but she didn't know where her son was.
Why couldn't Claire remember anything past the crash? Was it really Claire?
Maybe Claire and the French woman are in the same boat: they came to the island pregnant, their child was taken, then they go insane. Possibly brainwashed.
They keep making me think Loche knows what's going on but I'm cautious of falling for that one. Maybe he was faking his injury the whole time (in his life before the crash) and is somehow involved with the happenings on the island.
Yet again - an episode with more questions and no answers! :icon_evil

I believe it was Scott...Hurley just kept calling him Steve. Ethan died also. Charlie killed him for Claire, before the gang got to question him as to who he was, how he got on the island, and what he wanted with Claire. Claire has no recolection as to what happened to her while she was with Ethan. For that matter, she's lost her memory from the island completely. She only remembers being on the plane.

I have a question. What the hell happened with the guy that Sawyer killed. Was that the guy he wrote the letter to or was it the wrong person? I was really confused at that point.
I like the fact that lately, as they are doing flashbacks, everyone seems to be tying in together. When Boone was in the police station, Sawyer was being taken in in handcuffs. This week, Sawyer had some drinks with Jack's father. Maybe it was no coincidence that these people were all on the same flight?

That was a confusing part. Luckily I taped it and replayed a few times to get it. The guy Sawyer killed was the wrong guy. The first guy that Sawyer talked to in an earlier flashback (the one who showed up in his place when he was about to bang the girl) set him up. This first guy was owed money by the guy Sawyer killed. Sawyer had pissed off this guy so the guy set Sawyer up by telling him it was the guy that had killed his mother, when really he just used Sawyer to kill the guy in the shrimp truck for not paying his debt. You're probably more confused now, but hopefully that helped.

Yeah...definitely more confused now. I didn't see that part of the flashback. I usually watch tapes of the show. And this last week, the tape wasn't started until a good 10-15 minutes into the show, so, that could be why. Oh well. I'll just have to get myself a more reliable person to tape the show for me on Wednesdays.
Thanks, Bach.

Roche: Thanks! Can't really tell anything. Damn.
It is Hurley. He is getting into a car for some reason. There is some type of Asian subtitles. This will tie into something later. I cannot wait to find out what.
I just watched Wednesday's episode on tape. Yes, it was definitely Hurley on the Asian TV show. And it was prominent enough that you know they did that on purpose. Interesting, though I'm more curious about Walt and Locke, and why they "like the island" so much. Locke's a bit easier to figure out -- he's living his "jungle man" fantasy, from his flashback. My money is on him sabotaging future rescue/escape attempts. Next week should be interesting. Based on the previews, I have a feeling they'll be going into Hurley's flashback.

A stolen theory from a fan site:
4 8 15 16 23 (42)
The numbers just add up
4+8+15+16+23= 66 (42=(4+2)= 6)
666
The Devil's number.
The plot thickens.
Claire is carrying Damian, the Devils spawn!

Orrrrrr:
Is anyone here familiar with the "Philadelphia Experiment." I'm getting suspicious of a tie-in. That last scene of the hatch had a WWII flavor imho. Supposedly, a naval ship was wrapped in cable and juiced, producing a magnetic field that played havoc with sailors bodies. The intent was to produce invisibility. It would play to the government "black" programs idea. It's easy to make the numbers coincide: August 15 (8 -15) convoy GUS-23 (23) set out from USA... plan conceived in 1942 (42).

In complete agreement, but I can't imagine that Abrams is going to be that obvious. It's apparent that Claire's baby is destined for some truly strange stuff, but devil baby? I think not.
Unfortunately, no. But that thing in the ground that Locke's been digging up has the numbers printed on them, so there's a definite tie-in. I'm in complete suspense and am just looking forward to the next episode.

I've heard about that, and saw the movie they made about it. Loved it. I doubt they've got some extra-dimensional thing going on here, though. At least I hope not. It would be sort of a letdown if they were that hack about it, to steal another already-been-done idea like that.

I have it taped & ff to that part & put the closed caption on. This is what was said:
Boone: Hello, Hello. Anybody out there? Mayday, Mayday
Loche: Boone there's no time, get out now!
Man on Radio: Is there someone there?

Boone:Can you hear me?

Walt may have had something to do with it all, but I think the government covered up the disappearance of the flight - sort of like in Donnie Darko - how bad does it look when you can't find the plane with all the high tech gear it has on it? Doesn't the black box have a homing signal of some sort?

I do-- and I don't. For me, this show has always been about the great ride. Rather than over-analyzing things and trying to be a plot Kreskin, I just sit back and let the show play itself out.
Do I want all the secrets revealed? Yes. Do I fear that those revelations will turn out to be a series of shark-jumps? Yes, that too. For now, I'm just enjoying the hell out of the "Twilight Zone" vibe. I haven't felt this way about a show since "Twin Peaks". But there's the rub-- "Twin Peaks" was weird and inventive until it inevitably collapsed into itself. I do hope "Lost" can reach a more satisfying end, but in the meantime, I love the ride.
By the way, Locke's dream gave me a very-welcome case of the creeps rarely experienced on network TV. Good episode.

Rod Serling was such an original. I mean the balls of that guy. Each episode of "The Twilight Zone" would open with the first scene of the story. Then suddenly the camera would pan across the room in a whirl to reveal the man:
There he'd be-- black suit, black tie, white shirt, neatly-combed-but-greasy hair, ever-present cigarette and lingering smoke-- all with that one-of-a-kind delivery: "Submit for your approval ..."

No question. So many people think M. Night Shyamalan is the second-coming of Hitchcock. It's more like he's carrying on the plot-twist style that Serling perfected as a writer, most notably with "The Twilight Zone".
Although Shyamalan's work has been somewhat hit and miss, I suspect Serling would be his biggest fan if he was still alive.

I would have to say job well done on the part of abrams and company, as for suspense. They dole out tiny little parts of the story, just enough to keep you saying "one more week", which is exactly what their jobs are.
That being said, who else was shocked that they killed Boone?

That was really shocking since he was one of the main guys. But you had to think that it was time for them to kill someone off soon. And by the way when is Hurly going to loose some weight? He should be skinnier by now...ya know?
I wasn't shocked, I was ecstatic.
The spoiler communities had been tipped to a death at the end of season, the new thinking is this was to throw us off, that Boone was the one to die.

I suspect even if Hurley didn't eat a bite since arriving on the island, he would be the same weight. Nobody who wasn't supposed to die would die, and even if they tried, they wouldn't. Fate is a bitch like that.

Michael for sure since it was his idea to build it, and his son I'm sure, Jin since he's been working on it in just about every scene since, the last one is probably going to be up to Kate or Sawyer to fight it out for a seat. I'd bet on Sawyer.
Sawyer, Michael, Jin and I'm not so sure about Walt. I can see Michael saying its too risky for Walt on the raft and leaving him behind. The show isnt going to lose Walt when he is so eerie. Either that or they are going to see something amazing about the island from the ocean that they couldn't see from land and turn back to deal with it.

Except remember, Walt was the whole reason Michael wanted to build the raft in the first place. Michael said "He can't grow up here. He can't grow up in this place." and "I'm doing this, my son and I are leaving"
As for seeing something when they set sail, I'd bet money on it http://www.wackbag.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif
Yes, but I think he is going to think he can go get help and come back for Walt, giving Locke time to influence him in some way or another. I can't wait to see what they find out about the island. This show is like crack. Terribly addictive.

I dunno, I still think Michael intends to take Walt on the raft... but after watching tonights episode I'm not sure Walt wants to be on the raft.
It seemed to me that Walt sensed that something bad will happen to the raft when it does set sail so who knows, maybe Walt will stay behind after all.
Judging from the preview it looks like Michael is getting sick... so maybe the two of them'll stay behind?
Maybe he's getting that sickness that Danielle spoke of. Jack too, yea he gave alot of blood but I thought something was different about him last episode before he gave blood.
Who knows, but yeah this show is like crack. I can't wait for the next episode.
I am sure Walt does not want to leave. I don't remember when I saw it but I could swear he said something like that once to Locke. Also very interesting thing in next week's preview was Walt saying "don't open that thing" to Locke. I think Walt has sort of an idea of whats really going on. Not b/c he's smart but b/c thinks like a child. If he doesn't want to leave then it figures that opening the hatch will help them get off the island somehow. The writers have said that everything going on can be explained by science so its not a dream or something like purgatory. This and Alias make my Wednesday nights. It should be on twice week. And we've only got like 4 more more new episodes left this season.

From LostTV.com
Sci Fi Wire - Lost's Secrets Hinted
David Fury, co-executive producer of ABC's upcoming SF series Lost, told SCI FI Wire that one of the most mysterious characters on the new series about plane crash survivors stranded on a mysterious South Pacific island is the island itself. "It is very interesting and has its own mythology that will hopefully unfold over many seasons," Fury (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) said in an interview. "We are hearing and seeing very odd occurrences, like a polar bear on the island. How does something like that happen in the South Pacific?"
While Lost is an amalgam of different genres, including SF, Fury explained that realism is the key in making it all work. "What we are trying to do is make sure everything has a very Scully explanation," Fury said, referring to the X-Files character. "This is not a show about the supernatural, despite the fact that we have a very huge creature that likes to eat people. Despite the surreal, bizarre aspects of the island, there will be an explanation for it. It may not come for a very long time, but certain information about the island will explain how things are possible. We'll try to root it in real science or real pseudo-science. There will be no mystical reason or an island of monsters. The island has been around for millennia, and many people have found themselves on it, and as far as we know, nobody has ever gotten off. There is also the possibility of others being on the island, they just haven't seen them yet. And we'll never know how big this island is. It could be enormous, but odd things will keep them from knowing the full length and breadth of it. It's an interesting little allegory. It will be very mysterious."
Key words: mythology and pseudo-science.
Walt may have given the biggest clue when he was doing his homework and said something to the effect of "Why am I studying birds of Australia? We're in australia. Should'nt I be studying birds of egypt?" If you have the episodes on tape or downloaded them, notice that many times just before the monster makes an appearance you'll hear wings flapping. Sure it could just be jungle birds sensing danger and avoiding it but if you check out the pic I posted a few posts back the "debris" that hits the turbine follows a very controlled path.
I don't know but I just don't think the answer will be as scientific as some may hope.
Anyway, you're right... when Locke asked Walt why he burned down the raft Walt said it was because he did'nt want to leave and that he was tired of moving around and that he likes it on the island.
Walt is more than just a smart kid though, his step-father knew that, and Locke knows it.
Does he fear that opening the hatch means a way off the island, or fear that opening the hatch means doom... good question!
I can't wait for my next fix.
I check Spoilerfix.com every day to see if there is anything interesting. I can't help myself. I know it is more fun to be totally thrown by what happens but I just can't wait that long.
I do agree about the bird sounds when the monster comes and I am sure Walt has something to do with it. Perhaps he was the cause of the plane crash. He was reading the comic with the polar bear on it.
I do love what they are doing to Sawyer. Soon he'll be wearing an apron and baking cookies. Those glasses are a riot! It is so cool to see the sexy guy get goofed on.

How f'ed up would it be if I was right? I have no idea what really is going on, I just hope the writers do. It would really suck to have this fizzle out into some lame alien, dream, purgatory-scenario.

Every show has a "season finally" type cliff hanger. I am so happy we only have to wait untill September, unlike Soprano's where it takes 2 years.
ABC website shows it as returning in the fall. Hopefully by tehn the DVD will have some out so I can rewatch the eps and find out what they foreshadowed or alluded to.
I just read in tv guide that the writers are saying that the voice on the radio Boone found in the plane was saying " we are the survivors (Celine) of flight 815". They go on to say you don't know if its responding to Boone or just echoing his own voice. Apparently there has been some question abou what was acctually said b/c the hearing impaired scroll was not correct. This brings up the question of if there are other survivors where have they been? Why haven't the "others" found them too?

05-26-2005, 03:29 PM
I believe the DVD comes out in Sept and the Premier is in October.
I've also heard about possibilities of survivors from the back of the plane. I have a feeling we will be seeing Lucia? the chick Jack was talking with at the airport before the flight, she was sitting in the back of the plane. Also the black ladies husband who was in the bathroom in the back of the plane and she's said that she knows he's still alive.

Some other interesting stuff on that site including possible spoilers as to what the monster is.... if its legit then damn I was way off.
(clicking the numbers won't spoil anything, just an early promo for season 2)
If I remember correctly it did not sound like echoing to me. At the time I played it back several times trying to figure out what they were saying. The inflection was different. I am sure they wouldn't put it in if there were no other survivors. Plus let's not forget about Jack's missing dad! He could still be hanging out in the woods. There is a website called thecastaways.com and there is a theory about what is going on that was interesting. Also I've read something comparing it to a Michael Creiton book. I really have no good idea about what's going on.

Thats along the lines of what I originally thought was going on but after seeing some posts in another forum (the above link will lead you there sooner or later, I don't have the link atm) I'm not too sure anymore. But yea, that would explain the mist.

They better hold off Hurley until last down the hatch, he'll never fit. And the rest will have to scoot down Jackie Chan style.
That cliffhanger ending pissed me off too. I hate waiting. Some shows tie up their finales so they can start brand new next season, though I guess it wouldn't work as well with this material.

Try the link later, the site is getting slammed. I watched it earlier, the promo itself was'nt revealing at all but when its over it leads you to a forum. On there was some VERY revealing stuff (again, if its real) it looked like it could be the writers forum MAYBE. Lots of "how the hell did you find this forum?" posts directed at the newbie posters.
DO NOT CLICK THIS LINK (http://www.oceanic-air.com/images/oa_front-letter1a.jpg) IF YOU DON'T WANT TO POSSIBLY BE SPOILED

<crawls back in his hole>
I'm sticking with my original loosely based theory, the Michael Creiton book theory kinda works with it... but wtf the Others have anything to do with anything I'm still in the dark about.
It seems from all the other webboards that this is from abc. When I click on contact us it sends me to a disney website so I think they are legit.

I briefly checked out that site yesterday and I saw the pic of the Pink paper which i guess is from the script? The site is linked w/ ABC and Disney, but I got a feeling it's all fake just to fuel more theories and to keep the buzz goin for the off season.
I didn't see the message board section someone mentioned, but if it was all real and this was a site the producers and what not used, why would they take a picture of that script and post it on THEIR site if they didn't want us to see it.

Exactly.
As for the forum, go back to that link (http://www.oceanic-air.com/seatingchart.htm) with the seating chart, click the numbers in order (seat rows) and the trailer should start... it seems a bit more stable today. After the trailer you will get bounced there (http://forums.go.com/abc/oceanic/index). The trailer uses clips from last season, mostly them running, so don't expect too see much but pay attention to the message.
Also click on some of the seats on the chart.

Well, I just watched the rerun of the finale with my wife and I noticed something IMPORTANT! Walt had the transmitter radio wedged in his belt when the boat guys took him away...it was showing when they grabbed him and then his inflatable life jacket covered it up. I bet the others are only a mile from the shore and will swim in at first light and then track walt via his radio....Probably a 5 episode story line right there....
Oh, and let me correct some spelling that is really bothering me because i am a huge fan of his books...The author is Michael Chrichton (kri-ton)
I haven't read this thread from the beginning so i don't know if the walt story was already proposed...

I don't think the pink script page is a decoy. I heard the "monster" and first thing I thought was metal track treads, like from a catepillar backhoe or a tank. It definitely is mechanical in nature, but there's obviously a biological component to it, otherwise why would it be eating the survivors? Also, what was with the puffs of black smoke? It almost looked sentient to me.

While watching the finale again...because i have tivo! I noticed that when hurley, locke and jack have blown the hatch and are walking towards it with their torches, there is a friggen tent there! It is full of equipment and people moving around, and lit from the inside so it is casting shadows of the people and equipment. It is obiously a mistake, and the crew's production tent, but man, what a screw up! I got a vidcap, and brightened it...

So, what does anybody here think of the weird myspace page? Think it's the Lost production team seeding the net with clues as to what's going on? It was pretty weird, the blurb that the "hatch" wrote there... and if I was a creepy experiment in interdimensional time-space manipulation, I would probably babble in that weird stream of conciousness way too...

Lost is so overrated. I mean it's entertaining enough while it's actually airing but on the whole, they're just moving so ungodly slowly in a pathetic attempt to put off revealing the mysteries (that they have no idea what the resolutions are). Kate is one of the most annoying characters on TV and i'm already tired of the flashbacks.

I can't wait -- Lost is definitely the best network drama out there today (though that may change with Fox's "Prison Break" -- that show looks incredible).
Anyway, word is not only is Michelle Rodriguez going to be a full-time new cast member (she was in the season finale), but the guy who played Adebisi on Oz will also be on the new season. I can already picture him demanding drugs from Charlie while he's ****** Sawyer, after shanking Sayid. "Hey, Chah-lee, geeve me some TEETS, mon."

I didnt start watching this show until after the season. I downloaded all the episodes and watched them all through my comp. Watching them one after the other was great. My buddy watched from the begining and he said he loved the show but got really annoyed with long breaks between new episodes. http://actionadventure.about.com/od/lost/p/aalindeloffL1.htm
Why Damon Lindelof Didn't Reveal What's in the Hatch in Season One: “What’s in there is really, really cool and we decided that whatever it was they found in there was going to change their existence on the island. So instead of it just being something that they see and then leave, it forces them to reevaluate everything they thought they knew about where they are and why they’re there and what they’re supposed to do there more importantly. The hatch instead of just being something in the first couple episodes is going to go all the way through season two.”
Damon Lindelof on Creating the Hatch: “The first day that I met J.J. Abrams, Monday afternoon, we started talking about the show and started saying, ‘There’s no way to make the show work. There’s no way you can do an island show on network television unless you do that.’ So we started riffing out ways the show could conceivably work, ‘But they’ll never let us do that.
They’ll never let us have 40 main characters on the show and they’ll never let us do weird science fiction storytelling’ but she enough the network and the studio said, ‘Yeah, you can do that. You can do that.’ So that first day, JJ said, ‘Oh, and they should find this hatch. They should find something in the ground.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my God, what’s in it?’ He’s like, ‘I don't know, we’ll figure it out later.’ But that idea was born on that first day.”
Damon Lindelof on Figuring Out What's in the Hatch: “Then over the course of subsequent weeks as we were writing the pilot and casting the pilot, we kept talking about what would be in this hatch. Then Carlton Cuse came on around episode four or five and he joined the conversation. We said the rule will be they would not find the hatch until we know what is in it. And we finally figured it out and said okay, this is awesome. They found the hatch around episode 10 or 11. We always knew they would not open it until the end of season one and we would not go in until the beginning of season two which has frustrated people a little and I totally get that. I would be frustrated too, but if we had shown them just a little bit of what was in the hatch, they’d be 1000 times more frustrated than they were with seeing nothing because it would have made no sense. It would have had no context."
Damon Lindelof on Lost's Magic Numbers: “How far out we thought about the numbers is irrelevant to the fact that they landed in a way that we never, ever imagined. They were always going to be an incredibly important part of the island mythology and all I’ll say is the first three episodes right out of the gate, you’ll have a much clearer understanding of not what they mean but what they do.”
Damon Lindelof on Lost's Indefinite Schedule: “If J.J. and I and Carlton decided we’re done, they would say, ‘Okay, we’re just going to bring somebody else in to run the show.’ That’s what happened to Chris Carter. People look at that show and say, ‘I’m disappointed with the way The X-Files ended’ but Chris Carter wanted to do four seasons and a movie. The movie would have answered everything definitively but Fox said, ‘Great, you can leave the show but we own the show and we’re going to keep doing the show.’He said, ‘I would rather run my own show into the ground than let somebody else do it.’ I respect that. Hopefully they will not make the same mistake with Lost and hopefully we will be able to dig our heels in because we have an ending of the show, we know when it is, we know how many episodes it is, but we have to talk to the powers that be, the people who paid for the show in order to execute that. I think it would be very hard if we did our ending for anybody to come into the show after.”
Personally I have faith he knows what he's doing even if there are his doubters who think otherwise.

I did, even with my complaints (stupid new characters, I like my original 14!), I'm still kind of anticipating Season 2. I think the most this show, at the pace it is going now, is 4 if it's lucky. Longer if I get some sort of sense that they're not just wading and something will happen or that there's some overarching sense of idea where the show is going towards.
I didn't see the Sawyer preview but I saw the one with Kate going down the hatch.

The DVD's already come with a killer bonus disk.
The Best Buy exclusive DVD is VERY short with not too much extras to get too worried about missing. Worth getting for free but not worth going out of your way to get it.
As for the 24 vs. Lost thing.... my opinion is that Lost kicks the crap out of 24.
But they're 2 very different shows.
One relies on action and the other relies on mystery while throwing some action in there.
I liked 24 the first season. I thought it was an incredible idea having a show in 'real time'. But how many "longest days of my life" can Jack Bauer have? And you know how every season will end... Jack saves the day.
Its just not for me.
How will Lost end? Is being rescued even going to be part of the show? If so who will be left to be saved? Not one of them is a sure thing to not be killed off before the series comes to an end, not even Jack (even though I don't think he will die).
I love Lost because it makes you think and keeps you guessing and is totally unpredictable.
And John Locke is, in my opinion, THE best TV character ever! His backstory is so tragic and you can't help but feel for the guy, but is he a good guy??
Yea, the long hiatuses kill the momentum of the show and I cannot stand that but thats ABC's fault not the shows.
Season 1 was mostly about exploring the characters.
Somewhere on one of the 'extras' DVD they mention that season 2 will be about them exploring the island... I can't friggen wait!

The suspense of S1 was grueling and tedious. For that very reason, I can only watch 24 all at once from downloads by season. Makes me too crazy to wait week to week. Oh, but I shall be tuned in for Lost S2 the same as last year. Week by week.

Actually, if you listen closely, when Boone said "We're the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815," the other voice replied, "No, we're the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815." Meaning that the tail section crashed somewhere else on the island and there are more survivors - including Michele Rodriguez and possibly Rose's husband who went to the bathroom just before the crash.
And according to the show's creators, they'e already worked out a plan for the answers to all of the island's secrets, and it calls for the survivors to get off the island at the end of season 4.
LiddyRules
09-18-2005, 03:38 PM
I've heard they're planning to stretch it out at least until season 7.
And they changed the audio on the plane. Originally it was a lot more muffled and sounded like "There were no survivors of flight 815" but then they cleared it up to make it "No, we're the survivors of flight 815." And we all know playing with aired audio is wonderful in a show where every prop is looked at as a clue to the big mysteries.
I mean the show is entertaining enough but I don't consider amazing television, I don't have hope mysteries will be solved but I'm enjoying it until I don't.

SPOILERS AHEAD!
OK . . . we've all heard the hints that the producers have been dropping lately: what's in the hatch can be called by two names - one is 3 letters, the first and the last being adjecent in the alphabet, and the second is 7 letters, the first and the last are the same.
Well, word has slipped out from a preview showing of the season premiere, and here are the answers (highlight to view):
The 3 letter word is: MAN
The 7 letter word is: DESMOND
As in, there is a MAN named DESMOND living inside the hatch.
Another clue was, what was in the hatch was something you see all the time, but unlike any you'd seen before. Also, you were probably in one this morning.
And the answer is: AN APARTMENT
Desmond lives in an undergound apartment filled with computers and electronic monitoring equipment.
They've also said that we'll see what it is in episode 1, but won't fully understand it until episode 3. Which means that Desmond will probably be injured by either the explosion or an ensuing struggle when the survivors enter his home, and won't regain consciousness until episode 3, when he'll explain what he's doing there.
