If this movie comes anywhere near you, do yourself a favor and see it. IMDB it, but here's the summary:
Remember that awful movie Boondock Saints? Yeah, most of you probably liked it. Anyway, the guy who wrote and directed it thought he was a genius, but basically he's a gigantic asshole who had no idea what he was doing in Hollywood. Watch the short rise and long fall of somebody who lets nothing get in the way of his ego - not his family, friends, bandmates... nothing.

*bites tongue*
I shan't say a word, I shan't say a word, I shan't say a word...
And actually, Duffy's a pretty nice guy in person--something about being on camera screws with him, I think. Although I'd be an asshole too if my first attempt at writing a script with pretty much no schooling in the process turned out that well, because it's far from easy to not make every scene an eat, drink, or screw. Every film has them, this has more than it should, but a lot less than nearly all first-time writers.
*gets off soapbox* I'm done with my lecture for the day.

Boondock Saints was alright. Defintelly got over-rated by people thinking they found this 'hidden gem.' Great movies don't go straight to video...Ever. I'm sorry.
Anyway, Duffy seems like an asshole. It's no wonder Boondock 2 has been in pre-production for 4 years. It will never be made.

It will never be made.BDS went straight to video only because of the flak that violent movies were getting after Columbine. The violence in the movie upset a lot of people, and movie theaters wouldn't play it in America (it actually did very well overseas on the big screen).
Troy Duffy was a first time writer/director, and of course it was a learning experience. The fact that BDS did as well as it did, and that he was able to get the cast that he did, goes to show that even as a first-timer, he was able to make a great movie. Just because the movie has been in pre-production for 4 years doesn't mean that it won't be made. There have been a lot of movies that were in the work for twice as long before they were made (Lord of the Rings, for one...granted it was way bigger, but it took years just to get into preproduction after it was decided to make it).
Anyway...BDS was a great movie, and I think Duffy will be a great director given the chance.
Just saying...

That's the Troy Duffy excuse. A lot of movies were affected by Columbine, and they were delayed, not shelved. And for a very good reason, they were better movies.

They were in extended pre-production for very different reasons. An epic shoot, with 10 hours of screentime, in a different country is a good reason to be in long pre-production. A straight to video, low budget sequel, who's biggest name actor declined to be in, with a director with a bad reputation is an entire different reason. Trust me, it will never be made.

You ain't schooling me. If you've seen the movie, you'd see Troy about 20 days into his "career" bitching out his representation at William fucking Morris about Harvey Weinstein like he holds the power. Troy might've been a nice guy to you, but he was in over his head quick and clearly had no idea what he was doing in trying to get his film released, and that's probably why it got dumped to video after Miramax dropped it like a dead baby at a football game.
Movies that aren't ever scene eat drink screw? Yeah, I've watched tons of indie movies that manage to do this. Some suck (Butterfly Effect, American Astronaut), some rule (Hedwig, Chopper, Next Stop Wonderland, Session 9, etc.).
*shrug* Overnight's still delightfully painful to watch. The scene of the "band meeting" is total cringe... the film class visit... cringe. Scene after scene of Troy Duffy explaining how much of a genius he is? CRINGE.

Maybe, maybe not. I believe it will. I might check out this documentary just to see the other side anyway.
