I went and saw The Aviator this past Saturday. I have read up a little bit about Howard Hughes , so the movie peaked my interest. All in all, I would have to say that his movie was very very well done. Dicaprio did a great job at playing Howard Hughes, and everyone else did a great job at portraying who they were supposed to be. The only thing that I didnt like about it, was that it was almost 3 hours long, and they probably couuld have made it a little shorter. Anyone else see it yet?

I always hated "Dicrapio" especially after that mess that was titanic(fu james cameron). but i must admit he did a good job portraying howard hughes. could they have found an uglier chick to play katherine hepburn?
i enjoyed the film.

Actually they used Cate Blanchett to be Katherine Hepburn. I read it that it took up to 2 hours every day to paint freckles on her and make her look different. I think Cate Blanchett is hot normally.

I thought The Aviator was good, but the movie did not totally equally the sum of all its parts. As much I hate DiCaprio for some of the stuff he has done in the past, I have to admit he is a great actor. He was great in this movie, as was Cate Blanchet, John C Reilly (who is always awesome), and Martin Scorcese directed the hell out of this movie. The cinematography, also, was really good (I liked the effect they put on the picture to make it look like an older movie, while still allowing it to look great). All that being said, I did not think the outcome was as good as it should have been. Part of that I attribute to the movie being a bit too long. It was a very good movie, but given some of the performances and such, it could have been a(n all time) great movie and I just did not think it was.

I dont know why so many people have something against Dicaprio...I think he's a great actor. Sure he was sappy in Titanic but cmon, its a sappy movie...they can't all be gems.

I've never liked DiCaprio much, I just haven't enjoyed what little I've seen of him, and he looks like a douche. That being said, he is a better actor than quite a few in hollywood, to his credit.

I have wanted to see the Aviator, I think its the first Dicaprio film I have actually had a particular interest in making a point of seeing, but I just haven't gotten around to it. I'll probably go rent it or download it now that my attention is brought back to it.

I totally agree. As much as I want to hate DiCaprio solely for makign Titanic, he really is an excellent actor. Cath Me if You Can, Gangs of New York, The Aviator... he was fantastic in all of them, even if I had some problems with two of those movies. And even in Titanic, my problem with him is really my problem with the movie. He was probably perfect for the movie, I just don't like the movie. But, I don't think he could've been any better in that movie.

Loved the damned thing after thinking it was gonna be a Sub-Par Scorcese flick since Million Dollar Baby took all the Oscars.

Anyway, what did it for me was focusing on the part of his life wannabe pilots and astronuats like me dreamed about doing; piloting, and more specifically, test flight. No Spoilers [hell its called the Aviator] but it shows very well what happens, rarely but regularly enough, when testing experimental aircraft.

Def agree that DiCaprio is maligned as an actor, and wow feel free to shoot me down like a Fokker but I think Cameron did about as good a job as could be done with Titanic . I love about 80% of the flick, I can do without much of the present day back [forward?] story, but Cameron wanted to bring some present day relevance to a 90+ year old event. CGI and pacing of the hit and sinking are still kick ass, IMHO.

I agree that DiCaprio does not stink, but is rather good. But just needed that one big film to propel him. I agree that Aviator was a lil too long, painful when ya see it in a movie theatre. But not so bad when I see it at home with a couch and piss breaks in between.

I just finished watching this last night. I thought it was pretty good, the only other Dicaprio film i liked besides The Beach. Glad to see that others thought that Cate Blanchett looked bad in this. I thought she looked like an alien in the film. She looks bad enough in real life. Plus, if you remember LOTR, she's got awful man hands. Echhh...
