since XMs advertising stinks on ice...
ive had this idea for a few weeks now and have been checking out a few things. now i just want to see if anyone here would be willing to participate in this so vote and let me know...

the idea: o&a banner on fark.com (and/or other sites... post your suggestions)

how it works: i set up a paypal link and people will hopefully donate to the cause

we have the fella that does the foundry banners on board for this, but if any of you have suggestions for the actual banner, post them here.

some comments about the actual ad:
don't know if we are legally allowed to use the XM and o&a logos and charicatures... we are promoting their product for them so i hope it wouldn't be a problem. any lawyers care to comment?
where should the link point... xmradio.com?
should the banner mention the free 3 day streaming trial where you can sample them?

im still waiting on a price list from drew@fark... when i have all the details ill post them along w/ a paypal link.

feel free to post your comments.

edit: and if people from other messageboards get pissed that i didn't post this idea there too, chill out... ill post on all the boards w/ the info once everything is finalized. this is just a test thread to see if people would be open to the idea.

Wasn't there an O&A banner on FARK already?

The first thing that should be done is someone talk to Foundry Jeff and get a banner up on RF.net.

hummer,

while i believe your aim is admirable, i wonder if even the bbbboys think we should be the ones paying for advertisments, with all we do already to spread the virus. alot of us are constantly promoting the show and handing out cd's to potiential victims.

dont get me wrong. i support spreading the virus just like you. these are great ideas for promotion, but after spending money on the xm equipment, and the whopping 1.99 fee - why should i (we) have to pay for advertising for them when its XM's responsibility.

maybe i'm just climbing into the barrel here but maybe someone else feels the same way. i wouldnt be shocked if O&A dont really think its our responsibility either.

peace

I love O&A, but I am not putting in money so they can advertise. It is up to XM is they want to back the show. I would love to see it, but not enough that I am going to put in my own money. Sorry if that sounds harsh.

Ditto.

It's XM's responsibility.

yeah.. I'm not donating to a commedy show unless it goes to a charity or something.

ok, thanks for all your opinions... i wanted to get some feedback from everyone to see if it would be worth doing.

my logic behind it is this... by donating $5 or $10 to get an ad out there, more people would sign up... more listeners = more popuplar, more popular = better guests and more 'listener events' like roadshows. and all of that makes for a better show for us listeners. so i figured a few extra $$$ to help make the show better wouldn't be a problem, but i guess i was wrong. thanks for the feedback.

Buying ads for XM? No way. Besides, viral marketing is way more effective. Just tell your friends. Mention them in your blog. Tattoo ONA on your johnson and hope they never move from 202 to another channel.

I'm surprised it took that long for someone to pick up the Coffee Diva SN.

FOCUS: I don't mind marketing the show. But I'm not going to shell out more money if it's XM's responsibility.

I could bring up the Save R&F campaign...

i don't think we should be paying for advertising. run this idea by the boys. they should be the ones putting up the cash not us...

there are plenty of things we can do to spread the virus without spending $$

Personally, I just use a simple "WOW, Opie and Anthony, XM Satelite Radio" avatar on all the different message boards I post on.

we are supporting them by listening and paying 13.00 a month and placing a wow sticker on my vehicle . I only listen to channel 202.

I would try the classified section for fark if you want those type of people listening to ONA.

/yes I have labeled people who go to fark.
/it would be rude of me to say what that label is...

how much do huge billboards cost? there's a few empty ones around the cleveland area, WMMS 100.7 has like 2 or 3 of them within a mile along the same highway (71 N)...

that would be a good way to get a LOT of people, at least the old listeners that don't have a clue yet. is XM that uptight on money for the show??? do'nt they realize, if they dump a few bucks into like one billboard into major cities, the exposure they will get???
