:icon_evil I'm furious....yesterday @ like 3 PM I grabbed my MiFi and was going to do down for a cig and a girl was at the vending machine with a stuck OHenry Bar. I helped her get it out and went down for a smoke and forgot about the MiFi, which was on the kitchen counter of our "common area" at work, the common area with water cooler, microwave, fridge, coffee machine, etc.

I was leaving work at 5:40 and noticed I didn't have it on me...i looked in my bag and remembered where I left it. It's gone. Fucking gone. I'm furious that some fucker I work with stole that shit. :fight6:

I emailed the whole company saying

"Whoever found the XM MiFi Satelite Radio on the counter top of the kitchen after 3 PM this afternoon please return it to my attention.

This is what it looks like : http://www.xmradio.com/myfi/index.jsp

The subscription will be canceled and service cannot be re-activated under another name if reported lost or stolen."

No one has said anything and now I know whoever took it knows it's mine. The unit itself isn't worth anything without the attachments (charger, Car hookup, Home hookup, etc) and the battery power was only half full at the time anyway.

What should I do? I want to report it stolen to XM but when someone tries to "re-up" the subscription I want them to report that person to the police or something. I bought it at the CES show in Vegas so I got it there for a "two day special" for $200 instead of the $350 + tax it would cost here. I also paid for a year subscription on like 1/10....and just got the activation and first month's charge on my bill. Basically it's going to cost about $536 dollars (!!!) to replace what I lost (getting a new system, new year sub, +O&A, + activation) :icon_evil

Next Steps anyone?

I pray I see someone wearing those headphones or having it in their hands so I can pounce on them Hpapy Gilmore style. I don't even care about my job.

That completely sucks. Direct a complaint to your HR person and cc the CEO of the company. Tell them you have no intention of continuing to support a company that promotes thievery.

Yeah that sucks, we have people at my work that steal other peoples lunch items that they bring in that day for lunch. I could not even imagine that. Yeah I would start with going to your manager and go through the channels. How big a company and building are we talking?

The buildling is kinda big.....it's like 16 total floors...our elevator bank only goes to 9. Our whole company is on one floor, and is about 120 people or so I think.

I put up a reward sign on the kitchen counter where I lost it..."$100/more for the return of the unit and $200/more for selling out the person who "found" the unit"

Crazy thought, but if the person is using it (at least till the battery dies) maybe XM can track where the radio signal is?

I would hope if you report it stolen, XM would at least honor the remaining time on your prepaid subscription if you move it over to another radio, even if it is a cheaper on like a SkyFi or Roady

Also, you might be able to recoup some of the cost by selling the extra parts (charger, car adapter, whatever else there is) on Ebay. I am sure people would be willing to pay something for spares.

FOUND !

The CEO's secretary called me before and saw my reward sign and returned it. First she left it there on the counter but she did call me and tell me where it was. I'm surprised this african american princess didn't ask for the $100 for returning it because of the reward sign...even though she was the one that stole it. I'm not saying anything about anything, but she's an African American princess....

I did leave it in a common area and sometimes the network department leaves trickets like Court TV hats, Lifetime Mugs, History Channel DVDs, but NOTHING like an MP3 player, which she thought she got her hands on for free. I got the feeling that if it was an IPOD or MP3 player and not a satelite radio with a subscription, she would've kept it. She apologized (she had to right?) and said she didn't know what she had.

I acted happy because I geniouely (sp?) was, but she didn't know it was mine that was stolen. Let's put it this way, when I saw her call me I knew immediately that it was because she took it.

Either way I feel better and now i'm back to hating myself and the world at my usual near suicide level instead of passing over to the dark side...

Nice to hear man. I was kinda hoping you were gonna find someone trying to use it. Like an awful episode of "Cheaters" when the guy or girl catches someone in the act of cheating. I bet you will never let that thing leave your sight again.

The lesson should be to never leave a 350 dollar unit out in public. i am glad you got it back, but it was your fault for it being missing in the first place. You can never count on others to be honest; it is your responsibility to take care of your shit.

Odd thread to resurrect

it does not matter who you work with. take care of your shit, that is the bottom line. by leaving it out in the open, you are just beggin for someone to snatch it.

Just do what I do and make the blanket statement that if your shit isn't back in 24 hours you will arbitrarily walk around punching people in the face until you get it back...

Do you have a security department at your job, file a report and have them investigate. Workplace security is mostly a joke but it might just scare someone into putting it on your desk the next day.
