i wanna try linux. i even went as far as DLing it and burning the iso to disc. unfortunately, i don't know how to enable my wireless ethernet card with PHLAK (professional hacker's linux assault kit (I ain't a hacker)).

Suse LiveCD
Simply Mepis
Overclockix
PCLinuxOS

Those are the ones that come to mind...

As for wireless under Linux, the support is very spotty and is a major drawback of Linux at this point. It is a maturing OS though and does show some promise.

Knoppix if you do not want to mess with installing it.

Slackware if you want to try a real distro.
