Is it me, or does anyone else that has a Myfi find that the lil Antenna your supposed to use for when your walking around, is totally worthless. the signal blows and if you even so much as walk past a tall plant, you lose it.....does anyone know if XM is gonna do anything soon to beef up their signal power?

Yes, i have to agree. I love the MiFi, it stores the show for me while i'm at work and then i can listen to it where ever, but unless its plugged into my car or into the huge ass antenna at home, the thing almost never gets a signal. And the little antenna was a waste of space in the packaging.

I'm not too crazy about the MyFi. I'm taking pristine care of it, even left the plastic on the screeen. Once my 6 month obligation is up the first $200 gets it.

It really depends on where you are, how strong the satelite signal is in your area, and how many terrestrial repeaters there are.

I live on Long Island and I will loose signal using the myfi's antenna if i stand in front of it. However, I was in Atlanta last week, and I didn't even need to use that antenna at all.

I live on Long Island too....and commute to the city every day. With my MiFi, I get reception in the city easily if I'm not between two building, and especially if I'm on an avenue with a view south.

However, I've noticed I don't get the same reception on Long Island (exit in the early 40s on the LIE or Northern State). It has to be the repeaters.

Yeah - I think there's only like 4-6 repeaters on the island.

If possible, for listening to O&A, the best bet is to record the entire show with the Myfi in a fixed location and then use it to listen to the recorded show. Then you don't need to worry about reception wherever you are.

I realize that this methodology won't work for everybody. But it's perfect for me. I keep my Myfi in my office, where is records from 6-10 (I listen to the show at home and in my car via XM Online and my XM Commander). After 10am, I can listen to anything portions of the show that I want and if I want to take it with me at lunchtime, I don't worry about the reception because I listen to the recording.

is it safe to assume that if you can't get reception with the XM boom box antenna indoors, the myfi won't work either? I'm asking because I my XM won't get reception in my workplace without having to run my antenna outside, I was thinking maybe the Myfi with whatever new technology it has might work in my office. I'm guessing by reading this thread, that is a no go.

Man I think it just depends on the locale of your office / workspace. I have a northeast facing window and home a home kit antenna sitting near the window inside and get 100% repeater signal. The Roadys and SkyFis have a diagnostic menu you can access. I think it works with MyFi also. With the unit off press 2-0-7 then the XM button (scroll button in on the Roady / Roady2) You can tweak the position of the antenna by moving it here and there and watch the BER%. The lower the better.

That will be one of the advantages of when the MyFi home kit is available for sell. You'd just get the home kit for you office and use the antenna that comes with it.

This little antenna will solve most reception issues, but you will have to find a clever spot on your body to wear it - that's up to you:
