I kept saying "oh it won't happen to me"...but it has. This god damn game is consuming me! It's the first mmorpg I've gotten into, and I can't stop playing it enough. I got it for xmas, kinda just something I came up with on the fly. I figured "ah what the heck, something to do during the lousy winter". And...to this date, I think I've logged in over just a 100 hours *cue laugh*

I just can't get enough of it. I have so much to do in it right now, but I just can't start it up. I'm sitting at my computer, but I can't allow myself to double click on the icon. If I do, I'll be here for hours. But I want to so badly...

I did the same thing with EQ for PS2. It ended for me last August. I told my guildies I had to work the next day and couldn't go on a raid (me being 25 and they being 12-15 or so). They bitched so much and i was so disgusted I quit that day and sold my disc and my account. I'm thinkin about doing WoW (pun inteded), but my computer isn't too good. I'd really like to do EQ2, but i need $$ to upgrade. Computer MMORPG players seem to be a little older and somewhat more mature (not by much though). Good luck Chlorofirm!

I love Wow... I haven't touched my xbox or ps2 in 2 months... I just sit in front of my computer all day playing this shit... The thing that makes it so addicting is that its so easy to pick up and play.. Metal, you'll also find people who take WOW very seriously too. I've been thrown out of 2 guilds already b/c no one has a sense of humor. But when you find some cool ass people or you have buddies you play with, not a lot beats WOW..

After trying EQ2, I got WoW.....I'm a 16 Paladin now, and I'm really enjoying the game now.

Overall I do think it's a better game than EQ2, especially in terms of fun, but EQ2 is better in a few ways, especially graphics, which blow WoW out of the water.

Thats my biggest gripe about WoW. Graphics STINK....but the art style is cool though.

Good choice on BB. PvE is definitely the way to go. Especially with the honor system being implemented, there are tons of oppurtunities for PvP. Only diffence is its when you choose to do so.

Hey all, im a lvl 60 rogue (Zocor) and a lvl 35 mage (ferral) on the lothar server (PVE), i gotta tell you that this game is horribly addicting. I played EQ back in the day and this just takes it to another level. Sure the graphics are not as good as EQ2, however comparing the 2 is like comparing apples and oranges. WOW is more cartoony, however, it adds to the whole faggy fantasy, MMORPG genre. I have played most of the high end instances, and i gotta tell u that Dire Maul is unbelievable. I play on a 20" iMAC (yeah i know most people arent mac fans) and i have no problems. Look, at some points the game gets tedious, however, if you have a good group of players with you, you can do just about any instance/dungeon (except the ones intended for raids). Gime a /tell if any of u are on lothar... peace

Anyway, WoW kicks ass. Give it a try. Some tips; if you want to make money, pick 2 gathering professions. Like mining, skinning, and herb - (cough cough) - ism. Collect stacks of ore, skins (heh) and herbs (heh-heh) and sell them at the Auction House. Don't feel bad about price gouging rare items (weapons, armor) at the Auction House.

People will hate you, but someone somewhere will buy it. And you do need the money.

Basically choose sides. There's the Alliance ("good guys") and the Horde ("bad guys"). If you have a friend that's Alliance, you may want to make an Alliance char because you can't group/talk to each other if you are on opposite sides. I made a gnome that I wanted to call Richvos, but I gave up on him. Besides, gnomes are teh gay. I have someone named Olgravyleg in my friends, but I never see him on. Good luck!

The unit/target frame i use is not the one the Nurfed UI includes, but Minigroup (http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=66), although the creator has stopped playing, so i don't think they'll be any updates of that.

It should be noted that Flexbar can be VERY difficult to use, but as long as you stick with simple things, you shouldn't have too much problems. If you do, ask me.

It really depends what kind of server you are on. PvE is my new favorite kind (Tomtucker, Horde on Alleria), and greatful i stopped playing PvP, too much shit going on if you arn't 60.

Anyways, if you have no friends to play with and don't think you'd get in/befriend one of the "elite" guilds, don't bother. You'd regret it down the road. Otherwise, feel free to come back.

It really depends what kind of server you are on. PvE is my new favorite kind (Tomtucker, Horde on Alleria), and greatful i stopped playing PvP, too much shit going on if you arn't 60.

Anyways, if you have no friends to play with and don't think you'd get in/befriend one of the "elite" guilds, don't bother. You'd regret it down the road. That happens when the server is too full, you need to wait until there is a spot open. Doesn't take too long most of the times, maybe 1-2 minute wait, more if the server is really populated.

I play Horde: Undead 'Lock. As far as I can tell this is at least a 60% alliance server (if not more).

I just started playing, so I'm still leveling up (35 now) and moving through the PvP ranks (2500 kills in my first 2 weeks of PvP), but I love the fact that there are more Alliance around to kill.

The game is crap. I read recently that they changed Blind (the most overpowered skill in the game) so it can't be dodged, parried or blocked or something like that and they plan on making spirit decrease melee crit chance. Nerfs are fun!

I agree. Especially when you're higher up, some quests you just can't do on your own. I'd stand around in town asking for help for what felt like forever. Even a guild didn't help that much.

I wish I could help you sir. Thank god, I have never played WoW, but last night is an example of how bad I can get with games. I was cleaning up my computer desk nad found my copy of Star Wars "Empire at War". I hadn't played it in a while, so I figured what the hell. I put the CD in around 9PM. I after what seemed like a few hours,I got up to go to the bathroom and saw the sun was coming up. Now I remember why I stoped playing that addicting game.

All I can say is Good Luck, Bro. I gave it up just recently (see my last post above from May). I have hardcore school coming up in the fall and it finally began to hit me how much time I was wasting playing WoW. I stopped playing mid June, cancelled the account a couple weeks ago and finally uninstalled the whole thing today.

Hopefully your son will come to realize what he is missing, as I did. If he is filling up his time with WoW, he needs something else to do with his time. I started reading again (The Count of Monte Cristo is a kick ass book, but the 1200 pages took me about 2 weeks of light reading) and getting movies from Netflix. I've also rediscovered my PSP and dl'ed all the new emulators and homebrews.

WoW got under my skin like no other game ever has. It's not like getting addicted to an FPS, or something like Civilization or Sim City (both of which I used to spend 12+ hours at a time playing).

The whole WoW thing feeds into the need to want more, to get something better. It appeals to people who like to gamble, or buy lottery tickets. As good a drop you may get, you have to get better stuff. better armor, better weapons, get better at making bandages, cooking, whatever...It just never ends.

Not to mention the community/social aspect of it, which I'm sure your son totally has gotten into. I'm sure he has "friends" that he hasn't even met but spends plenty of time with online. I didn't get into that part of it. I did my time on my own.

And after staring at that screen, it's like they're real places. When I remember them, it's like remembering someplace you really were. it's fucked up. and when you're not on, all you can think about is getting back on. That's the main difference between that and other kinds of games — for me at least.

I quit at level 39. I just realized there was no end to it and had to get away. Yeah, I know, one level before you can buy mounts, but I cancelled and deleted the software from the comp.

I don't know what to tell you. I'm no parent. I'd just try to remember when you were a kid and maybe you loved something that your parents thought was bad (rightly or wrongly). I'd just keep that in mind while you're trying to wrench him away from the computer.

I'm curious about the warhammer game, I was a HUGE fan of DAoC until they released the "Trials of Atlantis" expansion, which completly made it worthless IMHO.

Ugh, don't remind me. Before they started doing hardware upgrades for each server, the wait times were AWFUL on Perenolde. On most nights at peaktime it was several hundred, and on Friday and Saturday nights, it got as high as multiple thousand player, and easily hour-plus wait times. Between the time they upgraded and the time I quit though, I almost never had to wait to get on Perenolde.

The few times I played the BGs, I would get destroyed. Either a freeze, or a slow or something... and I'd be dead in 10 seconds. And I'm a hunter... I'm supposed to be good. I just play to do quests... I don't know how to play the class as PvE.

I take it you're specced BM then, which makes it really really tough when a class gets the jump on you. A good frost mage will beat you everytime he gets the jump, and a rogue that blows his cooldowns can too. If you went MM/Survival on the other hand, you'd end them. Especially mages, since now with silencing and steady shot you can get a couple thousand dmg in easy using only instant casts.

quitting wow is very hard. ive tried twice and once failed, and now semi-failed. Just not paying for the account wont do it, because you will end up reactivating. The only way for me to quit for good is to either delete your character, or sell your character. I tried selling this time, but I guess I'm cursed cause the guy i sold to ended up giving me the account back for some of his $, and since i knew him, i had to...

i had my times where i would nonstop play, but ive gotten much better now and can control myself...somewhat. still, i wish i had never gotten involved hehe, even though its the best game ever created imo.

as per warhammer, i think this will be the first mmo to really start to compete with wow. it really should be a fantastic game and i imagine a lot of wow subscribers will switch over, or at least try it, until the next wow expansion comes out in 6 months or so.

I stopped leveling my shadow priest at 53.. it gets fun after a while, once you hit i think lvl 36 and get your next rank in mind flay.. but i don't know what happened. I think the bore of doing the same shit i've done before hit me, and i stopped leveling an alt like I've done to countless alts.

Another nice little benefit is that you can and often do get invited to instances that are over leveled for you, as long as you have a good tank and you can dump aggro efficiently you can easily do it.

End game, chances are you are going to respec to holy or something else for healing. There are some shadow priests in raids, but not alot.

If you have a reasonable raid leader and enough good holy priests, you should have at least 1 shadow priest in a raid. Maybe not a 10 man, but anything higher than that you should stick a priest with the warlocks and watch their DPS climb.

My point is, don't get your hopes up thinking your going to be shadow spec forever. Unless you are on a small server, there's probably couple spots filled in for shadow priests. Or at least, Priests that are needed to fill up the spot of healer rather than DPS.

Seriously though... I leveled as a demo spec lock until 70. Then I went Afflic. Drain tanking > every other spec. It was actually fun and easy to solo. When I first started Kara, I'd throw my 5 dots up and toss in a couple SB's and i'd always overtake the aggrometers. I'd have to watch myself. I leveled skills to 375 in everything and quit shortly thereafter. And I had just made a grand total of 1200g. Oh well, my toon's sitting in the armory, getting dusty.

Since I've hit 70 and have gotten a pretty decent healing set I've never had a problem getting into an instance. You'll have no problem getting your rep up to unlock heroics. Get as many protection warriors on your friends list as you can too.

A good piece of advice to any healer class is dont think you have to heal everyone when shit gets rough. Keep your tank healed and heal your dps'ers when you can.

If the healer dies its the tanks fault.
If the dps'rs die its their own damn fault.

I'm on my 7th re-spec. After they changed specs awhile back and added all the new stuff, I had to try it all out on my Warlock. I am now full Affliction, and happy.

mine was pulled within 6 hours, then i put it up and it was pulled within 3-4 hours with a warning, and then i tried one more time and it was pulled within a few hours and I got an indefinite suspension from ebay. I did the whole 'im selling my time' thing. i even did the 'selling CD's and throwing in the account', but that didnt work.

As per craigslist, sell in the San Fran area because thats the default one, so most people will just check that area for wow characters. They don't pull your add. Just list as much details as you can, and ask for the buyer to contact you. Always have the $ sent first (paypal, etc), and then send the info.

Try to talk to the person and see they are legit if possible though. A lot of scammers out there...

its annoying unless you know the person you sell to, or get lucky though ebay. i say just WOW it up and dont worry bout it. unless you are real geared, the $ you get prob wont be much.

just got im'd by some douche working for them asking if i was selling my account and the character's name. like an idiot i gave it to him and he signed off and just got an e-mail from blizzard informing me that i am looking to sell my account for profit and yada yada.

EDIT: more thorough reading of this e-mail has told me that this faggot is a scammer. he asks for my account name/password.

Exactly. I just respeced strict holy (only dove into Disc to get InnerFocus and Threat Reduction). The number of heals I throw are minimal now, my Renew can basically keep any DPS class healed as well as maintaining the tank. If they pull aggro then either they or the tank is not doing a good job. When I do pull hate I can usually fade it off and then sit for a minute to let the tank reaggro. Most tanks freak if they drop below 85% of you have to explain the way healing works at mid levels to them, but after that its easy as hell.

I do better DPS now strict holy than I did as a disc/holy (Spirit of Redemption, plus the increase spell effect by x% of your spirit talent, FTW) and SoR rules in PVP. I ran thru 44 and 45 faster than I leveled from 42-44.
