Keeping Windows up to date isn't a simple affair these days.

If you're not sure you're up to date the first thing to do is make sure your antivirus software is up to date. If you don't have an antivirus program you can get this free one from Major Geeks. (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download955.html) Do a full system scan.

The next thing to do is install Lavasoft's Ad-Aware SE (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html) and update it (it will prompt you) and then do a full system scan. If you have multiple users in Windows XP you'll have to scan in each account.

Next, use Internet Explorer to visit Windows Update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com) and install all the critical updates. You may need to reboot and visit the site another time or two. If you have Windows XP you can get Media Player 10 under the custom install option.

Once you've installed the latest Windows Updates visit Office Update (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdate/default.aspx), but you'll need your Office install CDs to install the updates in most cases. Once you install the Office Service Pack re-visit the site and get the post OSP updates. This will require a reboot as well at the end.

Finally, visit Mozilla and download Firefox. (http://www.mozilla.org) This will import your bookmarks as well, so you can make the switch easily. If you need to import other users bookmarks this can be done in their account in Firefox's import option.

Ok, I'm going to go play UT04 now.

I haven't looked at the stickies lately.... damn. I thought I was going to get +5 Informative, but instead I got -1 Redundant. :action-sm

I've been re-doing the write ups for this sort of stuff at work so it's been on the front burner o' the brain.

I start a lot of sentances with I lately... It's all about me!
