XMs car kit is horribly designed, the engineer that designed that peice of garbage should be shot. I hate how the skyfi2 car kit has wires hanging off the side, they should all be out of site in the back of the unit. Sorry I'm a perfectionist...

Anyways enough ranting has anyone integrated the skyfi or roady into their dash for a cleaner look? I'm working on a little something the next few weeks that I'll post pics when I'm done...just trying to see if anyone else custom fabricated a mount?

For a cleaner install, buy another mount arm instead of using the one that comes with the kit. I bought the Pro-Fit (as seen on the XM website) for the SkyFi.

As far as hiding the wires better...I got mine hidden just fine (except for the lighter power adapter). I did it by taking apart the center console of my car (VW GTI-VR6) and tucked the wires neatly under there.

I used an old poster tube, mounted the adhesive-backed swivel plate to it, and stick it in my cupholder. That way, when I am not using my XM, I hide the wires and put the "mounting unit" in the center console... and there is no telltale that I have XM.

Except, of course, the antenna that I have mounted on the dash at the base of the windshield.

I put "snake skin" over the three wires (Antenna, 1/8" to my AUX input, and power) and so instead of 3 seperate wires I have one thick, long, black sheath running from my skyfi cradle to the cigarette lighter.

I also used wire ties to bunch the wires together behind the unit so they don't all stick out the sides.

I used this stuff on One of the installs

The black tube sort of thing under the cradle.

The install thread at XM411 has plenty of mounting ideas

I permanently mounted my wife's Roady in her car.
I didn't do mine cause I move it too much.
Here's her 98 Sentra install:

THis is the front of the Caravan install (shown above). The drink holder thing still opens and closes. Uses the mount that came with the kit....I just modified it.

damnit wire nut.. you beat my sig by a mile!

Also, the black snakeskin I used is available at Best Buy, Samsung of all companies makes it. They have two thickness of it... in my store (princeton) it is in the same aisle as Karaoke Machines and Keyboards... might be different in other places.
