If you have any 2.4 gHz phones nearby, that could cause some signal interruption. You may want to log into the router and change the broadcast channel to something other that 6 (the linksys default). You'll also want to make sure that the router is set to broadcast at full strength.

You also may want to check the linksys web site for any updated firmware.

i have an apple airport extreme network w/ 2 airport express routers acting as repeaters (extreme is in the basement w/ the firewall, switch and cable modem... then one express on each floor). its a closed, passworded network... you can't even see it when you 'scan' for nearby connections, you have to enter the exact name manually. i also reduced signal strength on all of them so that inside the house you get full signal no matter where you are but once you step outside you don't get signal within 15 feet of the house (stone walls help contain the signal too). plus i can stream music to the airport express units and use them as print servers. my wireless setup rocks, too bad the laptop i use on it has to stay plugged in since the battery is fucked ;p

I have the same equipment, it works ok, I've had more good days than bad, but then again I use it more as a wireless access point than a nework to cover about 30 ft from my tv to my office

It could certainly be the walls if your pc is in another room from where the router is. I used to run into this alot with my old job.

Are you running winxp SP1? Upgrade to SP2 if so. One of the upgrades in SP2 is a fix in how XP reports/polls signal strength. Also do you live in a densly populated area? As mentioned in other posts, 2.4ghz phones wreak havok with wireless routers (they both run on some of the same frequencies). It could also be someone else nearby you using the same wireless channel in their router. Try changing the channel number (you have to do this on both the router and the wireless properties on your pc, they need to match).

Also, and this is from someone who has done DSL tech support for a national phone company, the USB wireless adapters are FAR better with signal strength than the PCI ones for some reason. Dunno if thats an option for you to try.

Even though linksys routers are the most popular, their quality really sucks. I contstantly have to reboot mine (once a week or so), as opposed to my old junky cheep wired router which I never had to reboot. Check the linksys website to see if there are any firmware updates for the router and see if that helps as well. (last resort call their tech support, you'll end up talking to someone in pakistan)

I have a D-Link DI-524 which is a G router and the signal goes very far. Covers my whole place just fine, but it's an apartment. My parents have the same one in their house (which is pretty big) and it still covers it, though. I have it secured though, so everyone isn't accessing it.

Linksys here, works from anywhere in the house, a few computers hooked up by wireless and some by wire. We actually pick up our neighbors next doors signal. Only complaint I have is every once and a while the router craps out and I have to unplug it and plug it back in.

I was having that problem with my Linksys router. Upgrading the firmware seems to have resolved that issue.

I shall have to try that as soon as I get home.

It should fix the issue. I was getting ready to smash mine before I finally tried that.

Yea I was thrilled to find out after installing everything that my wireless print server from Lynksys was not compatable with a multi functional printer.

I have a Motorola wr850g router and cards for two laptops.

I can be on the third floor of my house with the router on the first floor and still get very good to excellent signal strength.
