Antispyware Beta (http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx)

Windows AntiSpyware is a security technology that helps protect Windows users from spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Known spyware on your PC can be detected and removed. This helps reduce negative effects caused by spyware including slow PC performance, annoying pop-up ads, unwanted changes to Internet settings, and unauthorized use of your private information. Continuous protection improves Internet browsing safety by guarding over 50 ways spyware can enter your PC.

The worldwide SpyNet community plays a key role in determining which suspicious programs are classified as spyware. Microsoft researchers quickly develop methods to counteract these threats, which are automatically downloaded to your PC, so you stay up-to-date.

Is that any better then the ones out already or is it just a way for Micro$hit to back door your system?

I love it I used at work all the time. It always finds crap that SPYBOT and AdAWARE don't. I will even go out on a limb and give MS credit for making a deceint product.

I believe BILL GATE's(or some spokeman for MS) said they are perpared for the program to be attacked by hackers will work dilligently to fix any holes that arise.

I give them credit for buying out a decent company's product. ;)

So then you guys are having success with it?
On our PCs at work, we have a red light on that update. If it's any good, I want to see if I can get them to greenlight it.

I have been installing it on every computer I fix now. I use it on my home computer and Laptop. It runs super quick and cleans out the registery, and will reset any IE setting that SPYWARE has screwed with.

I just downloaded it. I'll see how it goes.

Man, that Windows validation process was a PAIN IN THE ASS. I have a laptop so the COA sticker is on the underside. I've got a mini-dock and a notebook cooler... what a bitch it was getting that damn code.

I downloaded it but didn't run validation. Will it make me run validation when I install or run the app?

Why did you validate? If you click on validate and then on the next screen tell MS you don't want to validate now it will still letyou download.
Unless they changed that within the last few days.

The program should work with no validation. MS wants only people using legit installs of winxp to download upgrades now. I didn't validate and it downloaded, installed and updates it's self without validation.

Ok, good deal, thanks for the info. All of the PCs I support at work are legit, so no worries there. My PCs at home are sort of legit and would probably pass validation... either way, I didn't want to take that chance.

What I think MS will finally do is when you hit WINDOWS UPDATE, if you aren't legit, it won't allow you to download any updates.

They already do that with Service Pack 2.

I think you have to validate once and ms saves it. Last time I dl'd it asked me and wouldn't let me proceed without it. This time I had a validate later prompt. Haha SF, same here. Turning my laptop upside down and trying to read it and type it in.

Crap! I forgot my review. I dl'd today and ran it. Who said it was fast? It's slow actually. That was the first run so maybe it gets better. I use adaware, spybot and hijack this already. It did catch variations of cool web search and virtual bouncer that may have been missed. They are the worst two out there.

I've ben running this since it started the Beta. IT kills every other Anti-Spy program by far. It seems to be able to Stop programs that others like Spy Bot Ad-Aware, etc. can't unless you run a Safemode scan. I think MS has rights to certain files/services that third party programs can't and probably won't ever have access too.

Just installed it on my Windows XP computer. I haven't even USED that computer in a while because of the Spyware on it. I've been somewhat Linux-obsessed lately since trying it on an older computer, then putting it onto my wireless laptop.

I haven't upgraded to SP2 yet and I won't until MS finds a way to force me to.

Then I will just buy XPpro for $80 at the computer show like I did with my current copy(yes it's a legit SHINY MS CD with legit KEY) :)

I find it to scan pretty quick and not just on my super fast machine. If it find a tons of crap it takes a while to clean. I had one customers machine that had 25,000 files infected and it took almost an hour to clean... But the scanning is very quick.

That's what I use the copy machine for most of the time.

As good as MSAS is, it's still not at the level I need a malware removal tool to be. Ad-Aware SE is the second best, but either way I have to use HiJackThis on each account I clean out. Norton doesn't find everything and even then it won't delete everything it finds.

CoolWebSearch, WinTools and VX2 are the worst offenders.

I also hate Weatherbug for requiring a survey to remove it normally. FU to Weatherbug and FU to AOL for adding it to AIM's default install.
