Does anyone know if the guys are still friendly with Ron & Fez? I just got my XM and was curious.
Yes, O&A are still friends with Ron & Fez. They don't talk about them too much on the air, but they have been mentioned occasionally. The reason for this is R&F are still contracted with Infinity and legally aren't allowed to appear on XM's air, as they are competition. There have been rumors and speculation that R&F would come to XM, but for now, Infinity is quite happy with them and will most likely look to renew their contract when it expires. So although they won't be on the air together anytime soon and AFRO shows are a distant memory, the boys are still very much friendly with R&F.

I think they have been told not to talk about opie and anthony. They used to mention them but not they only make references to Jimmy. I think Ron and Opie keep in touch fairly often.
I talked to Ron late november and he says they would still love to work with opie and anthony. I guess we will see in late summer when there contract expires.

Carrying on in the speculation mode, what if R&F did a reverse of what O&A have been doing, taking their FM show & negotiating a replay on XM? On O&A's channel? That would be pretty cool! Would open the door for R&F to drop in on the boys, and perhaps for O&A to drop in on R&F.

While I haven't listened since the WNEW days, they rocked back then. In my mind right now, besides O&A and political talk radio, they are the only other thing worth listening to on radio right now.

new info for speculation: Now they just played a song about Black Earl that Brother Joe did back when R&F were at WNEW. The song has some references to O&A. They haven't played that song in forever and decided to play it out of nowhere.
I don't doubt it was played to get people to speculate, however they have played it a few times since the move to DC. In fact, a caller requested it last week, and they couldn't find it at the time. I found it on my hard drive and got it to them, so that's at least a plausible other reason why it was played tonight.

I see this as a possible scenario:
Ron and Fez meet up with O&A at XM in DC, since O&A are broadcasting from DC next week. O&A introduce R&F on the show, and when Opie turns around, Ron hits him over the head with a steel chair. Then Don and Mike's music starts playing, and they all hug, and laugh at Opie laying in a heap on the floor. Then, Ant takes his shirt off to reveal the D&M leather jacket you can get off their website, then Ant spits on Opie, tells him he never liked him, and they all leave the building together arm in arm.

We should know more by next week after the two shows get together in Washington. The references -- on both shows -- would not be as apparent if it was just a possibility of it happening.
There are things that "are in the works" and there are things that are definetely happening. Neither show would be blatantly teasing it if it was just "in the works."
The only thing that could screw it up is XM not coughing up enough $$$ to R&F.
Aside from that, all that's left is to find out how long Ron and Fez's non-compete is.

Some of those AFRO shows were radio classics, like the one show where Opie made some leather clad dominitrix cry on the air or when Opie smashed some pinball machine that some jerk gave him as a gift. I had a chance to meet R+F at Bar9 while they were still on at 'NEW and they seemed to be nice guys and not total douchebags to listeners like some radio personalities out there.(Hoohoo, i just don't care i don't care)

I used to listen to R&F during the the WNEW days. They could be funny alot of times, but they could also hammer jokes into ground worse than Gilbert godfrey. and they would do these bits where they'd just list crap and it would go on way too long. I think it would be cool to have them follow the boys on XM, but I don't think I'd tune in just for them.

The best thing about R&F possibly going to XM would be the security at the XM studios. R&F allow way too much riff-raff to hang out in the studio. All of the Friday night hanger on's make the show unbearable at times. Especially Kathleen from the Bronx. All this knucklehead does is giggle at EVERY thing R&F say. How annoying.

If you are using The Blues Brother's reference of "Get the band back together," you have to remember that in the movie(s) they only did it for one night, and one night only. Everyone had moved on and settled into their new things.
What alll this speculation could actually mean is that R&F might finally be in a situation where they can talk about and TO O&A - occasionally having them on and vice versa.
What they had together meant a lot to a lot of people at that time, but things in radio are fluid. Especially with R&F and their careers. Ron has said many times on the air that he is not someone who likes living in the past - he likes new challenges (unlike Fezzie, who hates change). Ron's opinions on televison might also hint to this - he is a big fan of the British concept of television series - make them really good, but end them early.
Just speculation.
In the end, I think many people will feel very dissapointed with what happens, not realizing that none of this was planned between the different shows. They were all "running with a bit."
even if anyone here did, it'd be a bad idea to blurt it out before anything was confirmed.

My connection sucked last night, but ron said soemthing to the effect of, "there's nothing like an old west film, when the gang gets back together. When you see the 4 guys ride in on horses, back together again." Then he played the Blues Brothers clip, "were putting the band back toghter." Man, they are really fueling this fire. More hints tonight. They played the Black Earl song, when the song mentioned OnA they hit the "were putting the band back toghether" clip. They also said they have an announcment, but they can't make it tonight. Then a producer, who has a new show starting on the weekend, said something about needing a spot on the station, and Ron mumbled "you can take this one."
Fez's breakdown had alot to do with his Grandma dying last week, and a friend (Mikey D) who was a real jerk to him latley. He said this was the worst month of his life, between grandma being sick, and passing, and then having to make huge carrer desisions. He was upset about being the only member of his family who wasnt there when his Grandma got sick, and not being there when she died either. What really set him off was Mikey D. They forgot Mikey D's birthday, and Mikey bitched and moaned about it for weeks. Then Mikey called in at the end of the show to wish Fez a happy B-day, and Fez toatly broke down.

At first I thought maybe Fez was just acting to mess with Mikey D. Then I realized that it was real. If Ron wouldnt have stopped him, Fez would have announced, whatewver the hell it is they are going to do. In my opinion, they are defanitly leaving JFK. They are going to do one of 2 things, most obvious, go to XM and join the boys. The other possibiltiy is they go home to Florida, and to terrestrial radio there. They can survive on regular radio for the rest of thier carrer. They can do XM from Florida as well, but if they join OnA most likley they'll broadcast from NY most of the time. I was convinced, like most people, that it was XM all the way, but after hearing that last night, I'm 50/50.

Hmmm, after listening to it again, maybe you all are right. There was some real brutal honesty there. Really was some cringe radio. But think how much better it is in a year if they are on XM. Yup, Mikey is married to Helen (I'm pretty sure, it's been a while) and is Linay's dad and is the drummer in Crankcase (again, not totally sure). When he was a little kid he was in the background in a scene of The Godfather, and now looks a bit like Sammy Hagar. I talked to him a few times a couple years ago. Nice guy.

I'm pretty certain this isn't a bit - a lot of their regular friends were in the studio for his birthday (he was drinking all show), one or two of them have posted on ronfez.net that it was real, but mostly everyone circled the wagons around him and have said very little, except to offer support.
As shocking as it is by itself, if you listen to the entire show, and hear as he starts drinking, to getting calls from everyone, to how happy he is being goofy, this last segment is even more so cringe.
And, to put it into even more context, this thing with Mikey has been playing out all month long, in small bits, on the air, with Ron trying to run interferance because he knew that Fez's grandmother was dying and all the things they have been going through - they talked about it Monday night, when they replayed the melt down, but anyone who has been listening for the last month knew Fez was on edge, and that Mikey D. was being an ass off the air. According to what they said on the show last night, one of the final straws was Mikey trying to invite himself to DC to stay with Fez last week.
Not a bit - not at all.

They were doing some segments last night (April 5) called "Yeah...Watta Ya Want" where they let callers just call and "steer the show." Around 10 or 10:30 someone (a "brotha") called and asked if they were still in contact with O&A ("Yes") and if, during the whole O&A / Don and Mike conflict when they (R&F) took sides if they ever really took sides - the question was actually part comment/part question making it tough for Ron to answer.
He said that there was some truth to that (taking sides, I assume), but that both of those other shows could take care of themselves and it was just more interesting for them during that time to watch from the sides.
I have a feeling they might have been able to have more of a real conversation with this, but the guy quickly changed the topic (I guess afraid that he was going to be hung up on) and asked something stupid about their current producer, "Giant Brian."

I almost thought that was real) I'm really starting to think this may come together soon. I would miss some of the boys replays if Scottie and R and F came, but I'll get over it. One more reason to try and get my wife to get me a MYFi for Xmas. XM is the only place I could see Ferral do his show without blowing up again. R and F dont need sat radio, they do a clean enough show to not have a problem, but we have heard how jfk fucks with them now, commercial radio sucks, and I dont listen to it anymore!

OK, Fezzies drunken rant was good, but this is better. Friday nights show included a rant from Ron. When the Progam director (Cameron Gray) called the hotline to ask "where's Fez" Ron went off. Listen to the clip. The beggining is good, but it get very juicy about 5 minutes in. Ron mentions "My agent telling me to stay cool" and "doing the your moms box show." Man this is getting intense. OK, Fezzies drunken rant was good, but this is better. Friday nights show included a rant from Ron. When the Progam director (Cameron Gray) called the hotline to ask "where's Fez" Ron went off. Listen to the clip. The beggining is good, but it get very juicy about 5 minutes in. Ron mentions "My agent telling me to stay cool" and "doing the your moms box show." Man this is getting intense. Just listened to Ron going off on the PD at JFK. It really seemed like Ron had hit his limit with managment. All the while R&F were in NY they had to put up with their show being moved all over the schedule, and for the most part they both kept cool, and did what they were asked to do, including for a week in summer 2002 doing 2 shows a day. For this to happen on air is either a brilliant acting job by Ron, or the last straw in a series of bs maneuvers regarding the show since it has been in DC.

Sorry if this is the wrong section to put this in (you can call me a cuntlick or whatever, i don't care) But for people who have been keeping up with the Buddays after the whole WNEW breakup, rumors have been going round that Ron and Fez would be coming to XM radio.
This friday, it's been turning more towards fact.
1. Ron and Fez have been saying that for 2 years they have been unhappy with their situation. Fez had a drunken breakdown and Ron spoke his mind in what had to be a shoot on PD Cameron Gray
2. On DCRTV, which is becoming a more and more reputable source for all media news involving DC, there is a rumor about Ron and Fez roaming the halls of XM!

That is quite interesting, no mention of R and F during the station description. Hell, I thought someone was trying to put us on, but did a search for "infinity broadcasting" and it went to that site also. Someone needs to address this to R and f and see what their response is on Monday.

Yea, it's pretty obvious that they are in talks with XM and with Infinity about their contracts. They're also really unhappy at wjfk and always refer to "not talking about that" when it comes to speculation on going elsewhere. I'm convinced it's going to happen the question is just when. Either way I will just be content with listening to the buddays until the band comes back together however long it takes.

They were referring to Ron as the Ronfather when Opie wanted to get both of their blessings to smash the pinball machine that Al Dukes (R&F's ex producer at WNEW) got for Opie. O&A wanted approval from both of them and it took a while to find Ron aka "the Ronfather".

It's overwheling in favoring of getting XM, but most of the people who answered it said they already had XM because of O&A.
Someone did point out that a more "Sophie's Choice" kind of question would have been if they would get Sirius for R&F.

I know this has come up earlier but just to be clear, that Ronfather animation was done by a fan on a fan-run message board, I wouldn't look at that thing as some conclusive proof as to what they're doing, but count me among the many that really hopes they make the move to XM.

I just meant this the first time it was actually brought up aside from these little "hints" they've been dropping for almost 2 months. And keep in mind they screen the calls and knew the girl wanted to talk about it. It was a way of addressing the "rumors" without saying anything themselves, since another show said it and it's already out there.

This is a very real possibilty. Although I don't think it's a pure hoax, I think they are really considering it, but also using it for leverage in negotiating. I think they peobably want syndication or a better time slot out of the deal. If Infinity can give them everything they want they'll likely stay, but if not I'm sure XM can afford to cut them a comperable deal.

Keep in mind they also have the ability to broadcast two different things to XMRO and SR, so if enough people absolutely NEED an O&A replay during a certain slot it might be possible.
I'm sick of people already bitching that they'll be losing 1 or 2 replays... and it hasn't even happened yet.
If R&F are coming to 202, the sched should be like this:
O&A Live 7-11
R&F Previous Day Replay 11-3
O&A Same Day Replay 3-7
R&F Live 7-11
and then best ofs or something
Didn't count for Ferrall in there, but I guess you can put him in the 11-3 and then replay 11-3 night time

And as for the other guy, it has to be Black Earl and his Black Coalition show, or Tom Lykiss. Ant even said mentioning Ferrall was unrelated. It's their channel now, they are only going to hire people they actually like, or are proven legends in the industry. It's a well known fact that O&A have been feuding for years with Ron & Fez.

Shit, the more I think about it, i'd be nice to hear Ron & Fez on another channel, but from what the boys have consitantly said, it sounds like they will be sharing the channel. Thats fine. I can make sure I catch O&A live, so I don't have to romp around for replays.
Its not like XM doesn't have enough channels to throw at another show, right?
Either way, I'm happy as fuck with how the show has been going. And I trust any changes will all be for the more gooder.
