Which format of DVD do you have and which do you think will become the standard?

If either of the new formats becomes the standard, I'll be really pissed. I'm not investing in another all-new movie library.

pretty much all dvd burners these day will burn both formats AND dual layer... i personally like dvd-r since it is more compatible w/ older players. if your thread was about HD vs blueray, id put my money on blueray...

I prefer -R. Both formats work in all 3 of my players. My laptop doesn't like the +R format though.

My TiVo only does +, my laptop does +-

so i guess I prefer + since i use them on the TiVo...

but as far as the future goes... i think blueray is going to come out on top... i just really hope there's no format wars like DVD vs DiVX

I picked up this new DVD player this weekend. It plays Divx files along with DVDs and MP3s. It is awesome and it was only 70 dollars.

I would think this will end up being the standerd one day.

"Blu-ray is expected to replace VCRs and DVD recorders over the coming years, with the transition to HDTV. The format is also likely to become a standard for PC data storage and HD movies in the future"

From what I understand, Blu-ray is the better technology . . . which means DVD-HD will become the dominant format. *sigh* I miss my Betamax.
