I was watching TNT the other day, and all 300 lbs of Magic Johnson came on the screen. After years of listening to Norton, one would expect a man who got the HIV 13 years ago to be, well, rather depleted. Magic these days looks like a Samoan King. When I first heard that he got HIV, I thought he'd be done in 5 years. Now they say that he has nearly untraceable levels of HIV in his system. Great for him. However, with all the talk about stopping AIDS and fighting AIDS worldwide, why is there not a bigger deal made over the fact that Magic has had teh disease for 13 years and looks as healthy as ever? Did he even have it in the first place? Has anyone looked so healthy 13 years after being diagnosed with HIV? Granted he is worth $600Million and can afford teh best shit, but there have been other famous, wealthy celebriteis that could afford the treatment, and still died.
Just curious...

Along with everything else his money can do for him, he has also kept in unbelievable shape, which helps as well. He was a world-class athlete when he contracted HIV and he has mantained the same level of fitness ever since. I am sure if everyone was able to do that, survival rates would be much higher, but easier said than done.

I am not sure "Kept Same level of fitness" should be applied to Magic these days. Him and Barkley were neck and neck for title of fattest athlete during the All Star Weekend.

Well then he had done so for quite a while. I haven't seem him lately...
Anyone who has been able to fight the bug for so long, and win, has my respect. He's been very successful in his life, and he deserves whatever good fortune comes his way.
The culprit here is the bitch wife who gave it to him. What's her story these days?

Did he get it from his wife? This is the first time I heard that. I thought he got it from the Ho's on the road during his playing days.

I actually heard a rumor a few years ago from a brain cancer specialist (not that it has anything to do with HIV but at least it was a medical person) that there was a cure for HIV back then but it was being kept private and only those invited could get it.
Conspiracy theory yes, but that mother f'er has lived for a long ass time so who knows.... ?
But alas now we have super aids too. :) haha./

Something I found here. http://www.sec.org.za/aids/aifaq.html
Can some traditional healers cure AIDS?
No.
This was the clear answer by traditional healers when asked on the Durban AIDS Congress in July 2000. Traditional healers like university trained doctors may heal opportunistic diseases like tuberculosis, but nobody in the world is able to repair the damage on the immune system caused by HIV/AIDS. FULL STOP.
Why has Magic Johnson now tested HIV negative after being tested positive?
Drugs, especially drug cocktails like HAART (Highly Active AntiRetrovial Treatment) may eliminate HIV from the blood stream to virtually zero, i.e. to an amount that is not measurable anymore by methods available today. But even if the bloodstream is free of HIV, some HIVs are hiding in certain glands. Once they are released again into the blood stream they may breed very quickly to a large number. Thus, the amount of HIV in the blood of Magic Johnson may be kept on a low level by antiretrovirals in order not to deveop AIDS.
I remember reading an article a few years ago about Johnson seeking treatment somewhere in Europe because the HAART treatments were not available in the U.S.
The FDA has not approved the method.

I believe it.
Yeah I had a hard time, but the person who told me is the smartest person I personally know. So it would be weird for her to make something like that up. And it's been so long now that I question it myself that there isn't a vaccine of some sort that has been around for a decade and a half.
But common sense tells me it is obviously not true... Just kind of weird.

Magic got HIV from his whore-mongering while living large in LA. He did not get it from his wife.

If you really want to read some conspiracy shit about AIDS you should check out
www.duesberg.com. Duesberg is professor of cell and molecular biology at UC Berkeley and one of the pioneers in the science of retroviruses and he doesn't believe HIV is the cause of AIDS. There are quite a few other scientists, some of them Nobel Prize winners, who agree with him.

lookie here it is called population control. We come up with a cure which probably exists and than what do you do? how do you control people having unprotected sex like your kids whom you are trying to teach to use protection. i myself think there is probably a cure for aids, cancer, and some of the other fatal diseases out there. my reasoning is look at all the money that has been raised all these years and the funding that goes into all of this....just a thought....
Population control is totally necessary in any society. Personally, I don't think our species expected this.

Magic's ony of the .1% I THINK, of HIV patients that has HIV go into recession. He hasn't tested positive for HIV for quite some time now.
Then again he's a multi-millionare and probably has the cure.
