Wilmington WOW
03-11-2005, 02:14 PM
I kind of heard the caller mention that there was some special I.F. status for the WNEW listeners when O&A first syndicated to Philly. Obviously we WYSP listeners were not aware of this. What was it and why. Were the NY fans afraid that show would suck if they syndicated, and NY callers would loose seniority?

I think he meant listeners from the new XM show beginning..........I am looking forward to the angry soccer mom calls and from people who are yet to get what the show is about.
I think I know what Wilmington WOW is referencing. This morning, there was talk of some "perks" for the veteran show listeners (WNEW days and XM premium subscribers.) Someone asked about privileged IF status and Opie said that he wouldn't tell the new listeners (post-premium status) how to IF the show. He said they'd have to figure it out for themselves, like when they were first syndicated.

plus he said that when they do find it, he'll keep going to "us" because they'll recognize the names (or something similar to that...)

Umm.. well I guess I qualify for the reward, but not sure what it is. O&A t-shirt? XM keychain? Complimentary Monster Rain session with Lil' Jimmy?
So you guys really don't remember the secret IF back at WNEW? I'm surprised. I wasn't sure if you were just fucking with Wilmington WOW or not!

I hope they do recognise the names. It's pretty easy to forget names like Dugout Doug, Toolbag Johnson, and TurboDan.

Honesty, I don't. I've listened to the show, forever... in NY. I used to listen to the Rock and Roll and was one of the people that had to deal with something I wasn't used to. Slowly working from mostly music to mostly talk to all talk.

Thank you Bach and zagman76.
That is what I was referring to.
The caller compared the situation to the pre WYSP days.
I was just wondering what the vibe was from the NY listeners regarding syndication at the time.

It sucked over and over again(every time a new market was added), but it was awesome at the same time.

There was a link on the old WNEW site that was an 'alternate' I.F. - not sure at which point it was activated, but didn't it say 'PULL THE STRING' about halfway down the boys' home page back then?

Oh shit. I think I vaguely remember something about that. You clicked on a letter or something in a picture and you got the alternate.

Philly was priceless. I can still remember some guy calling in asking them to "spin some records" and Jimmy screaming at him and insulting his taste in music. It was something like that, and it makes me laugh like crazy everytime I hear it on download. :icon_mrgr
no no Doughboy, that was for speculation.
I believe it did say "Pull The String" at the bottom of their page on WNEW. The cursor didn't change when you passed over it (I think), but you could click on it.

Geez, I'd better come up with some cool bit or something fast then. I don't want to be lumped in with a bunch of newbie losers just because I don't think of anything funny until after the first of the month....

Good call, that what it was, I forogt completely what the link said. but it was a secret IF that they would read just a little more, as a perk for the "original listeners". I was just wondering if they had anything fancy for us. If I remember correctly, comming back from breaks, they would tell the NEW listners about it, before the syndicated peeps came back.

I rember the secret link from the WNEW website. I had it bookmarked and used to use it. It said something about being old-school or something.... Somebody from the "old" board gave it to me back in the day.

I always thought the philli callers sucked ass and thats why the never seemed to want to bring the show there, for me the "Return to Boston" was the most exciting thing for them and I think they saw Boston and New York as the original o and a fans all others just didn't get it:action-sm ---r e m e b e r? Opie kept saying "man we will be in philli eventually, over and over, that always stuck out as funny to me because it was sooo obvious they didn't want to go anywhere but stay home in ny and go to there former home in boston
why just because ny and boston are above and beyond any other city (lol) :icon_bigg im just joshin' ya

They broadcasted from Philly a few times... at least two that I can remember. I'm sure the boys liked Philly. I agree, the callers at the beginning sucked.

Philly gave them the most WOW contestants. The # of entries from NY were much less and didn't compare quality wise. WYSP was the 1st (non SU) syndication station. I remember the calls like it was yesterday. Play the music, etc. They purged the old and welcomed the remaining. O&A were #1 in almost every male demo in Philly.

I was an WNEW guy myself (Jersey Representing) BUt I know a lot of fans from Philly and I must say they were just as Die hard as the NY/NJ fans. Wierd now is fans form Wisconson, and all those random square state. I still haven't gotten used to hearing country accents on the show

Philly was always very good to The Show. All new markets don't get it at first but Philly quickly became infected with the virus and their first live show from the Philly studio was jam packed with fans outside the building. I don't ever remember a secret IF link though. When they were at WNEW I used to pick up the show at 4 when I got off work and listened for my one hour sit in traffic on the LIE or the NSP. Usually if I had something to add I would try and call. I didn't have a radio near my PC then.

on. Never knew about any other I/F lines though. Always checked them
out thru the WNEW site.

Whats to be the criteria for who gets the special IF?
When would your first listen have to be?
What would you have to do to prove it?
Jeez.
Please excuse me if I took you wrong,or heard you wrong.
but,
You sounded like an arrogant prig.
Hey Gregg,Tony, shouldnt you give us special guys a special IF so we dont have to stoop with the rest of the rabble?
Jeez dude,get ahold of yourself.
