Opie's "Spuds Buckley" name was brought up again in another thread which prompted me to try another search for this hidden audio. We know it was a character he did on Buffalo radio in the late 80's or early 90's, but where did he get this character from?
Doing a search brought me to this strange page that had many freakish "Opieisms".
The death of a "Dog" band, a person named Stinky being part of the band, and one of their hits "Prime Rib" which I believe was the meat in question that caused the death of poor Lil' Chester.
Check it out...

Stinky and the Spuds 1978
The Flying Dogs were dead. Temperance Hall was kaput. Billy had re-found rock and Roll, and the Spuds wanted to play. It was a match made somewhere. We don't really remember how it happened, but somehow the Spuds and Stinky got together to jam in the BooBricks basement. Stinky had finished a series of songs that he had titled Food Rock,.and he whipped them out for the Spuds. They got the message and together they put together a set of numbers consisting of such gems as,
"Eat Your Vegetables"
"Lunchbox"
"Take me to Your Delicatessen"
"Autistic Peaches"
"Prime Rib"

The Flying Dogs were dead.
Didn't realize he kicked Chester that hard.
And doesn't this say it all:
Since the resurrection of the Spuds in 1997 Stinky has come out to play several times. Its hard to believe that we all got so old. But when we play together, it feels just right.
Rock n' Roll will never die, maaaannnn. Another bunch of 50 year olds playing hippy music. Just what the world needs.

Yesterday I talked to a former Co-worker of Opie's here in Buffalo and somewhat a past friend from College about archive tapes from his Spud's Buckley days and he said they would not have tapes back that far.

This page that I found really has nothing to do with Opie's "Spuds Buckley" character, but it is pretty freaky how many O&A references are listed.
As far as REAL audio from the "Spuds Buckley" days, we already found out that they DO exist, but are held by old friends of Opie in the radio business and will not be released without an "O.K." from Opie.
Here is an interview that Opie did last year on Buffalo radio describing these lost Spuds Buckley tapes (that are now on CD somewhere)...
OpieonShreddRaganReplay.mp3 (running time 17:01) (http://www.buffnet.net/%7Epaulk/goo/OpieonShreddRaganReplay.mp3)
At about the (5:45 time mark) Shredd mentions a CD he got from Tony Magoo when they use to be on "The Bearman Show" together and it was for an April Fools Day show called the "Fools Parade" and there was a little Spuds Buckley audio on that. I've emailed Shredd and even found Tony Magoo by email, both of which has informed me that Opie would have to O.K. it first.
The only person that will be allowed to play it, is Opie, himself. So Ope... while your digging up that finger bone in your parent's back yard... dig up those Spuds Buckley audio files as well and play them on the show and END this mystery once and for all. You've come clean with the "Chester incident"... now it's time to lay to rest the "Spuds Buckley Mystery"! :action-sm

The most obvious question - could this just be a site that a fan put up and hasn't claimed credit for yet? I mean, either we're all looking WAY too far into it, or it's supposed to be blatantly obvious.

I don't think so, it seems legit. Besides it's a long way to go for some obscure references.

I just honestly think it is all some sort of fucked up coincidence. Like Opie says... it just makes you want to start smoking dope again and listen to some "Stinky and Spuds" tunes...

I figured I would bump this thread since it was topical... I wonder if Opie would play this audio?
