Mine sucks ass. The fucker is all staticy and comes in like crap, esp the boys. I have to switch frequencies like every five minutes, and if I'm near Hollywood or the airport forget about it. Back East it came in fine, and I listen online and it's crystal clear, I want it like that in my fuckin car since I sit in traffic 3 hours a day.
Does anyone else have this problem in LA LA land, and if you've got any solutions feel free to drop em like it's hot, cause this is aggravatin me. Thanks.

So you're using the FM modulator? That's most likely the problem, use the casette adapter.
also this thread doesn't belong here. :action-sm

which receiver do you have? The "static" is another station on that frequency trying to come in over the fm modulator. there are a number of direct wire installations available if it's that much of a hassle.

I just drove down to Anaheim (Disney for the kids) from the S.F. Bay Area. The reception was PERFECT all the way through (I-5, 405, 101). I'm using a MyFi, roof antenna and cassette adapter. Definitely use the cassette adapter for a clean signal from the receiver to you car's deck. FM modulation sucks. Also, if you're not using the roof antenna you won't pull a clean signal from the sky. I'm still at Disney and am jonesing for the show.

Yeah I live in westwood.... I typically just record the show at home because of the time delay, and even though the south is blocked by a building the reception is fine 99.4% of the time. When I drive, I either put the car or the personal antenae on the dash and get about 97% reception there. When you use the transmitter/modulater, the fact is its just going to suck and be frustrating. I think its 88.3 that is best in LA but the casette adapter is far crisper and better. Use it.
If you dont have a cassette player, the mi-fi instructions say that the closer the mi-fi antenae is to the car antenae, the better your reception will be. But whatever you do, it's still going to suck without a cassette adapter.

It's not like the FM modulator totally stinks. It all depends on the terrestrial stations in your area, you need one open one so that the fm/am station doesn't bleed through.
The roady2 has several presets, not sure about the MyFi. Worst case situation you get a third party modulator which you can use on any frequency.

I have this problem with the MyFi in the tri-state area. The problem is there are so many terrestrial radio stations that there are no dead frequencies where the MyFi has available settings. You just have to play with it to get the best reception for the area you're in. I use 107.7 in central/south jersey and 89.1 in northern jersey, new york and connecticut with out too bad of a problem.
Eventually I'll put my after market radio in and just use the aux input rather than the FM modulator.

I think you may be getting interference from the "Schwoogie Filters" placed around South Central, Watts, and Compton. They were installed by XM briefly after Reginald Denny was pulled from his truck and hit over the head with a Sirius boombox.

i ordered my roady2 so i hope this works out... i dont mean to hijack the thread, but since were on the topic, how do you get the antenna on the roof? i know its magnetic to the top, but how do you wire the cord to go out to the roof?

You have to run it through your floor panels near the doors; then you wrap around the back of the floor matt on the passenger side and bring it through the dash someplace to wherever the unit is on your dash. There's a magnet you should stick on your roof or next to the trunk in the back. It's easy, and I suck at that shit.
*Funny enough, the schwoogie filter actually is reversed, it works great in the warzones of Compton and the parts of Inglewood not next to the airport and in the (gulp) city/downtown.
I dont' have a casetter adapter, so I'm stuck with that piece of shit FM Modulator. But it worked perfect in Buffalo, now it sounds like shit. So that's probably why, that modulator sucks ass.

If you don't have a cassette, you most likely can purchase a line out adaptor that plugs into the back of your radio. Check out www.myradiostore.com for the parts, and www.xm411.com for additional questions and help. Both are owned and operated by Ziggy, who got mentions from O&A during the Hard Rock Cafe shows. He's a friend of the show, and a good guy.

Run it from the unit as directly as possible to a spot under the carpet. Then go to the door jamb. The weather stripping can usually be peeled back from the metal. peel it back and run the wire under where the weather stripping goes, then press the weather stripping back in place. Run it up and out to the roof. The antenna wire is a small gauge and you should be able to close the car door on it without mangling it.

i was thinkn about that, since the taking the antenna off would stop other stations from coming in so much. ill havta try that if i need to.
thanks for the info everyone. i like that direct connect thing, i might look into that once i test out the radio.

i need to look into getting a wire to hook directly into the stereo because my signal fades every now and then. it's not too bad but it can be annoying sometimes.
with the antenna situation, i run mine through my dash to the weather stripping all the way into the trunk and i place the magnet on the trunk since its close to the car's antenna

Theres a church near this homeless shelter outside of LA. I found it when I was looking for a job, and a guy at a construction site I was working, well I followed him there.
Anyway at night the homeless people watch TV and at night, this weird signal breaks in. Makes your head throb like mad. Some weird guy is cutting in and saying something about aliens among us, that they are turning us into slaves, that TV makes us zombies...
Maybe the signal is back.
I wouldnt have believed him until I went in the church and found the transmitter of the guy who was breaking in.
Then I found this weird pair of sunglasses, but thats a whole nother thread.

That's the problem. In L.A. and the surrounding area, there are so many stations that you can't find ANY totally dead spots on the FM dial for your FM modulator to use. Any spot on the dial that doesn't have an L.A. station on it has at least a faint signal from a station of a nearby market. Trying to use an FM modulator in the L.A. area sux.
