>>Spokane Mayor Accused of Molesting Two Boys
(Spokane, WA) -- The mayor of Spokane is under fire following Thursday's "Spokesman-Review" news story alleging Jim West molested two boys when he was a sheriff's deputy and Boy Scout leader. Court documents obtained by the newspaper reveal the victims claim the molestation took place in the mid-70s. During the three-year-long investigation, the paper alleges West used his position to offer gifts and an internship to a young man he met online he believed was 18-years-old. It was actually someone working for the paper. West admitted to having private relationships with adult men through the gay.com website, but calls the molestation claims "lies." West told the "Spokesman-Review," he offered an internship to a young man he met on the Internet. He issued an email to Spokane municipal employees and the city council apologizing for his "lack of judgment." Despite the scandal, West vows he will not resign.
Regardless of West's sexual orientation, gay rights groups slammed the mayor for repeatedly speaking out against issues supporting gay marriage, civil unions and anti-discrimination legislation for homosexuals in housing and employment.
