Avoid dealerships, these service writers can make bank from lying to you. Try to find a independant mechanic you will be glad you did. Tell the dealer to just fix the noise and thats it, trust me they always try to fuck you over.

I once got blown at a dealership. But then they overcharged me for installing a radiator.

Not all independant mechanics are honest. Out of six different mechanics I visited for auto repairs in the last few years, only two were honest. They will screw you if you aren't careful, so unfortunatly, you have to shop around.

I deal with independants and dealerships everyday. Yes there are bad mechanics too bad most of them are scum bags. Check with friends or family word of mouth tends to be the way to go.

I have been in the business for 30 years. I worked at a few dealerships
and have now been on my own for 10 years. Dealerships do suck ass. The
way dealerships determine how to pay their wrenches just encourages
them to lie and cheat you. As an independant, I am very concerned about
my reputation in the area and try to offer the best quality parts & service
that I can. You will find cut throats outside of dealerships, but most of us
really do try to take care of our customers.

I once worked in the body shop at a Ford dealership. The mexicans that the painter hired to water sand and mask used to wipe their ass after they dropped mud and then piled up the used toilet paper behind the toilet instead of flushing it. They said this is common in Mexico due to the poor plumbing and sewage systems.

The good independants tend to stay in business for a long time and need less advertising because of references. The markets soft up here but those good shops always stay busy.

i follow the scheduled maint. very strictly, if my honda is due for 20k mile service(according to the manual) i do it at 20k. if they "recommend" i do something i say no, unless its part of the maintenance.
I remember when i had my cherokee, they recalled my rotors back in 2000 and i went in for the recall, that bastard tried to squeeze a brake and ball joint change out of me. Scuzzy bastards.

Ok I know I will get ragged on for this but on weekends I listen to the local public radio international channel on terrestrial radio and there is a show called car talk and they say to get to know the mechanics in your area and do the same thing as you would do at a doctor and get a second opinion.
Some of my friends are mechanics and they say never go to the dealership they make all their $$ on the unsuspecting rubes that go in there. Unless it is something specifically covered by the warranty or could void it,... dont go there.

Yeah, they wanted $3000 to fix a big dent and replace a rearview mirror... How they figured that I'll never know. Looked like a thousand dollar repair at maxium, but anyhow, I didn't get it fixed... Hell, I could care less, it adds "character" to the car.

I told them no, and I only got what needed to be fixed and so that got 0 and I told them to write down what they wanted me to do and they wrote nothing down. they still suck but I have gave them nothing. Ball Busters where is your garage maybe I can bring it to you. I would like to support fellow wackbaggers.
