I'd look up the specifics but I'm lazy, canadian broadcasting has all these asinine rules that if you want to broadcast in Canada you need to have a certain percentages of artists be of Canadian decent, or something like that. So although XM's satellites will reach radios located in Canada, XM doesn't have a license to broadcast there and therefore can't sell product there.

What about online XM? I figured anyone could sign on to that, but what do I know. I understand the mobile units being satellite fed so i'm not talking about that.

Nope they won't let us put non US based credit cards when u register for the online stream... going to have to drive to buffalo eventully buy a mifi or summin and pay for two years... pain in the ass.

Like if you look at the current coverage of XM...

One would think they are trying for a Canadian market... just my opinion I could be wrong...

Nice...do they advertise themselves as a remailing address service or something? Just curious, not L.E.

PayPal offers its debit card to Canadians (well, they offered it to me, anyway), and it will appear as a US card. In fact, I bought a couple services online with it (not those kinds of services), and it wouldn't work when I used my Canadian address because of a country mismatch. However entering any "valid" US address went through fine. After figuring that out, I picked up the online stream.

There are always ways around, my friends. And it's certainly not stealing if you're paying for it, just grey market. XM isn't getting ripped off.

That said, despite having the stream, I still download the shows because mp3 is so much more convenient.

As long as those canucks have a physical US address they can listen though the online service. It says so in section 1-d in the attached link.

I live outisde philly,PA and don't get any of my bills from xm in the mail. I just have it paid thorugh credit card and never see shit in the mail. So you canucks would probably be good using a US hotel address like shroomman_100, as long as you paid on time.

Spread the canadian strain of the virus.

I'm from NYC, pay the same way (regular charge on my CC), and come to think of it, the *only* thing I have ever received in the mail from XM was that letter about the rate change--the letter that DIDN'T MENTION THE BOYS!!!

Hey Canada, what can we get the same way?

All I did was used my grandmother's addy in florida and signed up online with my canadian CC, it comes off every month without any problems. I have three units signed up right now.

The competition has the licence to broadcast in canada, even their call center is based here. In my area, they sell XM units all over the place, XM just cant advertise or set up authorized retailers since they dont have a licence to sell.

Theres no problem paying with canadian credit cards, the problem is that XM's computer system doesnt allow for entry of a Canadian postal code so therefor you need an american address on your account.

Anyone outside the US who wishes to sign up for xm or xm online, just use a fake address. Make it up, just have the a real city and zip, something like 1234 Bedrock Ave, Beverly Hills CA 90210

Opie is only refering any Canadian listeners as listening to the show "illegally" We aren't bootlegging. Because of Canada's stupid laws we aren't perimitted to watch or listen to any media from the US if there is a provider in Canada that can give you that same service. This is comparable when Directv first came in to Canada. People were buying and subbing to the service. The Canadian Government said it was illegal because a) We have 2 Satellite service provieders in Canada so they would be losing revenue to an US company and b) The stupid "Heritage Law", that the CRTC (same as the FCC in the US) says that every radio or tv provider MUST have at least 30% Canadian content. When XM applied for a license to brodcast in Canada they couldn't fulfill the 30% Canadian content law. From rumours I heard, XM was willing to have a couple of staitions that would cater to that by-law but the stupid CRTC turned them down because they wanted all the channels to conform.

We are only listening to the show illegally because the CRTC and the Canadian Government says so. Our flag will be changing to a Swastika in the next year or so!
