LAKELAND -- Police said they are considering filing criminal charges stemming from an April incident in which a dance contest turned into a strip show after a group of women took off their clothes and danced nude during an event at Lakeland Motorsports Park.
The women were part of an April 17 contest during a Puerto Rican Family Day at the park on State Road 33 North, but shortly after 5 p.m. the contest turned X-rated, said Lakeland police spokesman Jack Gillen. "Women disrobed and danced provocatively displaying their breasts and genitalia," Gillen said.
An Orlando woman videotaped the incident and reported it to Lakeland police, and she provided the videotape to ABC Action News Channel 28 in Tampa, Gillen said.
Police started investigating three or four days after the incident when they received the video footage, Gillen said.
Lakeland police did not release other details of the incident.
The ABC Action News 28 Web site features censored streaming video of the women dancing and removing their clothes on a stage.
Families with children were in the area when the women began stripping, Gillen said.
Channel 28 reported that some people at the event were angered by what was happening and protested, but the stripping continued.
People involved could face charges of lewd and lascivious conduct and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, Gillen said.
Lakeland Motorsports Park owners did not return phone calls Monday night, and the event promoter, identified by Channel 28 as Alamo Productions, could not be located.
