OK, not sure how many people are going to back me on this one... but here's the deal. I work for Comcast, right now as a field tech. Let's get something straight. Whatever problems you have with the company, that's your beef. I could give a flying fuck what the history on your problem was, or how upset it's made you. But if it makes you feel better to bitch at me, I guess I understand. And for those of you who like to go the extra distance and write your thoughts on my work order, a word of advice: save your wrist from the effort, because all those work orders go to is a manilla folder in the archives. Here's another thing. If we tell you we'll be there between 11 and 2, then don't go anywhere during that time. You agreed to it, you scheduled it, and if you're out running your stupid non important errands and we come by, tough shit. There's no way I'm going to an 11-2 service call at 1:45 because fuckstick decided to see if we came by, especailly when I have 7 to 8 OTHER trouble calls to get to. (That's right, Verizon guys who only get 4 or 5 t/c's a day, we comcast slaves get about 8 to 9. So forgive me if i'm not heartbroken on you missing your service call for a snowy picture.) Oh, and don't get mad at me for teling you that OUR equipment isn't working because you decided to be mister do-it-yourself and run your own radioshack POS wiring. I'm not cleaning up your mess, if you want to "save" on wiring your house, use the right shit we tell you to use.

Just a random set of ramblings... so to the holier than thou segment of comcast customers: eat me. I just jury rigged your cable to work until I leave.

You need to understand something. I am a volunteer firefighter/EMT. It's not that i hate people, it's that I hate people who think that their problem should be my problem and don't want to consider that I'm only one person. Think about it. I had to work a full week while my mom was in ICU. Do you think i'm really gonna cry over you not getting Encore?

Let me get a little more info to anyone interested:

It's not like I don't care about fixing your problem. I do, honestly. But you need to understand that when Comcast wants you to keep a certain "efficiency" rating, and don't adjust your rating when you take as long as required on a job to solve said problem(like they used to), and as a result you don't get your efficiency bonus at the end of the month, morale can get a little low. I know that overtime is expected. But there is no reason I should leave with 10 jobs when you're allotted an hour a job, which is pretty much saying "well, guess what, you're working 10 hours today, no dinner date with the girlfriend". And it happens more often than you'd think. So it's nothing personal, but understand that us techs have problems of our own to deal with too.

Off but on topic...My cable company as of yet has not come to terms with CBS/viacom so the HD subscribers do not get CBS in HD...I read in the paper that 'it is all set to roll out once we sign the agreement'...well, if you forgo an HD Box, and just plug your cable wire into your HD ready tv...TA DA! There is CBS in HD...now, would the cable company ever tell you this? No, they want you to subscribe to the HD package for another $9.99 a month...but there are all the channels for free....Worth checking out for all you folks debating it.....

yeah.. i know we charge an arm and a leg, but i can assure you it's not going in to my pockets.. I always try and give a little inside advice to the customers, if they're not world class jackoffs. But with Comcast, in most areas, the HD signal is encrypted w/ 256 QAM encryption... so it may be hard for your TV to decrypt it.

pay. That totally sucked ass. I now pay my bill in person at our local

Every time the guy comes to my place he gives me this "jesus christ, is this nasa?" look...I have 1 tv, 3 inputs...Cable, tivo, vcr, tivo to vcr, tivo to tv, vcr to tv, tv alone, all through the receiver..I can record 2 channels and watch a 3rd and listen to a 4th (watching a sox game and listening to some other show) I am pretty much a tv junky who works 60hrs a week and has a baby so i have to 'maximize' my tv time...I know people laugh at that but it is so true...I even ran some coax through the attic from 1 of the tivo outs and into an aux in the bedroom tv then i have a wireless IR repeater that lets me use the tivo remote in the bedroom while i watch it...I also download shows with bittorrent, burn them and watch them...Yeah, I love tv....

Is that Comcast? the largest timeframe we have is 9-1 or 1-5, and that's only for stuff considered to be outside work. But don't expect us to work around you when we have 9 other customers who can be home when they say they will be.

EDIT: And another thing, each job is different. I can go to a job for a remote control problem and find out they have a plastic drop and have to replace it (drop = line from pole to house), so without knowing how long one job will run me makes it impossible to give you a small window ETA

Fuck Comcast. My town's cable advisory board kept them from pulling HBO off the regular cable system, so I still have HBO and HBO2. I'd get satellite but those fuckers only allow Comcast Sportsnet West and Comcast Sportsnet Mid-Atlantic to be carried by the satellite providers. They are preserving their cable monopoly in the Philly area by holding us hostage.

They keep posting record profits every quarter, but they somehow have the need to petition the PUC for rate increases...

FU to all these idiots! Both cable and satilitte! A few years back, my local cable company couldnt come to terms with a sports channel that carried the Orlando Magic and Tampa Bay Lightning games. Both teams made the playoffs that year! It really made me hate hearing the name "Time Warner". Turns out that Time Warner was about to become Bright House Networks here, BUT, Time Warner was the one in charge of coming up with the new contract with Sunshine Network! Sunshine came back the week before they changed their name, if I recall correctly.

Now, right now, Direct Tv or Dish Network, I cant remember which one, is about to have a contract with a broadcast station expire on May 31! Granted its the WB, but you watch! That contract will expire, and a whole buch of teenage girls will be very upset!!!

Feel free to read my FU on cablevision. They've got 3 hour windows for appointments, the latest is 5pm to 8pm. That's all well and good if you can take off from work, work from home, or have some other alternate work schedule. I don't get out of work until 5:30, and I have a 40 minute commute. I also work weekends (yeah, I'm a real go-getter.) The FT job is new and I have no time off banked. I'm not taking time off with no pay because the asshats at cablevision have no way to request that I be the last stop of the night. And of course, it's no problem for them to send some fucker to shut service at the pole between 11pm and 7am.

Harvey_Birdman
05-27-2005, 02:42 PM
But the problem is that a little drizzle, and fuck you and the TV you rode in on! You aint watching no TV!

Nonsense. Absolute nonsense. I'm sure it happens to some people but that's probably because of poor positioning of the dish, not because the signal doesn't get through. Do you lose XM when it rains? Same principle, man.

And how often do you lose cable when some jackass drunk drives into a pole or your neighbour decides to dig his own swimming pool without a permit and knocks out the wire?

The cable companies are full of shit. I can count on three fingers the number of times I've lost a signal in 6 years, and it was never for very long (5-10 minutes).

Cable TV sucks, service, selection, price, value, quality, just about everything. Fight the state sponsored monopoly that is cable and hook up to television from the sky!

I agree that cable sucks, but I don't think XM and TV recivers are at all alike!

Take a look at a TV dish.

Now look at your XM antenna!

You're right that the two are physically dissimilar, but they both share the same technology. Understand that with a satellite dish, the dish part doesn't do the actual receiving. The dish focuses the incoming radio waves to the satellite receiver, a small unit that actually kind of resembles an XM receiver (in that it too is a small rectangular piece of metal encased plastic).

http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/satellite-tv-1.jpg

See that picture, it's actually the little plastic doohickey on the outside part of the arm that receives the signal, the dish just focuses it to the doohickey.

http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/satellite-tv-6.jpg

Not really all that different from XM is it?

http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/satellite-tv1.htm

My only point is that cable has lied to us for years, they are full of shit about everything. Join the wireless revolution!

Ahhh, I see you are from Florida. You are therefore unfamilliar with the ridiculous amounts of snow, sleet and ice we often get up here in the North East.

Yes, I do expose my XM antenna to the elements. I don't garage my car and that little Alpine antenna has been on the roof of my Ford Taurus for 2 years now. My antenna often works even though there is a half foot of snow on the roof of my car. No problem with the XM and no problem with the Dishnetwork.

Satellite is all that and a bag of chips.

A little drizzle does not knock it out.

Torrential downpours and snowstorms do not knock it out.

In response to that, I must answer in the negative. I don't know how Satellite TV or Radio would function if confronted by the Lords of Fire, Earth, Air or Water. I now understand that it is a recurring problem for you poor folk down in FL.

Perhaps that's why all the old people flock to your stupid state-which-was-founded-as-a-prison-colony. Maybe when you jackasses figure out that you shouldn't live near fucking El Nino you'll figure out how to operate simple household appliances.

It can be a couple of different things... it could be a bad connection, a bad filter at the pole that we use... check more in depth.. is the problem only on 3,6,12? if it is, then you have what we call ingress and might need to get some cables replaced, or the drop from the pole to the house. if it's just snowy on the lower channels, usually it's a connection somewhere

The only time I've ever had a problem with satellite is when there's about a foot of snow on the dish, but that's easy to fix. Just go outside and brush it off.

Time Warner, on the other hand, can just go to hell. In my area it's either Time Warner or dial up for internet access, so I'm stuck with the douchebags. I don't have a problem with the techs that they send out, but the monkeys on the phones that won't send a fucking tech to my house to fix my internet. When they first came to install it, they gave me a window from 10-1... ok no big deal.. had off from work anyway. at 2:45 still no comcast guy.. And its all been downhill from there. He finally showed up at 3:30. And lemme tell ya for $60 a month for digital and internet service, he should have come in with a smile and fucked me til i cried. Atleast then i'd have felt a lil simpathy for ya ffemt19. But since he didnt, i dont.

Well, you probably dealt with a contractor for Comcast, which is different than what I do.. that's what most of the problem is, the experience people have with the contractors, but they are a necessary(sp?) evil... they alleviate the workload on techs quit a bit and there are some good ones out there. Granted, he was wrong for blowing the time frame, no doubt... but that doesn't mean you can piss on me and i'll let it go because you're a paying customer, because you sure aren't paying me.. like norton says, cancel your subscription if you're not happy..and if you can't pick anyone else, then sorry, that's the hand you're dealt... you just have to live with the fact that if you cancel your subscription, Comcast won't cry a tear. Also, did he tell you why he missed the timeframe? There's times where I have a full route and have to pick up an extra job or two because one of our guys got hurt, making it almost impossible to make all the timeframes he had to make on top of my own.

Like Norton says, quit your job if you're not happy...and if you can't find a better job, then sorry, that's the hand you're dealt... You just have to live with the fact that if you quit your job, Comcast and their customers won't cry a tear. :icon_mrgr

Face it, man, you are a representative of your company. Being on the front lines means you bear the brunt of the punishment. Maybe another line of work is what you need, one where you don't have to deal so closely with the people who pay the fees that pay your salary.

I actually enjoy my services with comcast. My DVR works great. Cable internet speed is very nice. And my experiences with the comcast install guys were all good. Its also nice that you can call them 24 hours a day. All I want is more HD channels..

Agreed. I'll get the HD when there are more channels, and the guys who've come by have been friendly and professional... Except for the one last month who never showed up, and then claimed he did. I sat home from 1-5 and saw noone, heard noone, and when I called the dispatcher at 5:15 they said he'd come and gone. :icon_conf

Naturally this was on the last shift leading up to the weekend so I was without my internet for the remainder of same... TV worked fine, though.

humm thats funny...My neighbor across the street works for Cumcast and his van sits in his driveway more than it is out and about slaving over our problems...If you hate your job so much, find another...simple as that!
