Carl Edward Roland, 41, climbed the crane at an Atlanta construction site about 4 p.m. Wednesday. He has spent most of the time lying on a metal grate on the crane's arm.

"We have offered water and food to him, but he has not accepted either," Atlanta Police Chief Richard Pennington said Thursday night.

Thursday morning, police were using sirens to keep Roland awake.

Pennington said police will continue efforts to coax Roland down for as long as it takes. "We want him to come down," he said. "I know he's told them he wasn't ready to come down."

I think they're hesitant to take him out, or least hit him with a tranquilizer dart because of the whole "innocent until proven guilty" thing. So if he gets killed it'll be a big shitstorm. Him being black makes it even worse because you know Al Sharpton and all of those idiots will get involved. If he was fleeing in a car chase it would be a different story but he isn't endangering anyone but himself.

We had a copycat who went up there last night. I was hoping he'd stay up at least today because I'd grab my sign and do an AOTM, but he was lured down with cigarettes less than half a day after he went up.
