I've had to call the phone company every year for almost 20 years to
fix my phones. I'm on an old line in my borough and it stinks. I finally
got tired of not having service. I pay over 600 bucks a year for a phone
that doesn't work alot of times, so I finally figured out that I could
cut out the land line and go to cell phones and still save money. Adios
Verizon. Fuck You! Anyone else gone totally wireless?

years ago but kinda have crappy cell service up but why have 2 phone bills and 2 #'sPart of my decision was because I get great reception at home.
I can go anywhere in my house and on property and hear my cell OK.

Yeah, me too.

I gave up the land line when I moved last year. The only thing I worry about is that if I ever lose my cell phone, I'm fucked. I know I should back up the info on it, but I'm lazy.

So far though, I've managed quite well with only a cell phone. I use T-mobil and it works pretty good for me.

I really should. I never use that phone for calls, but I have their DSL.
Not sure how that works. You'd think I'd get a break for having their
cell, dsl and home phone. :icon_roll

never works. I rely on Comcast cable for that.

I haven't had a land line for the past 4ish years.. I just never got one after getting out of college. Cable instead of dsl, and i'm already paying for a cell, so why bother with a land line?

Hopefully i'll be getting a year free from viatalk (voip) and that'll give me a landline, but I wouldn't pay for one..

I have Vonage at home but still need a landline for my DirecTV. Anyone know of a way to make Vonage and DirecTV work hand in hand? The sooner I can get away from Ma Bell the better.

One benefit of having a land line is it makes your look better a lender's eyes. If you are applying for a new loan, perspective lenders like to see a home phone listed when they pull your credit. Also, if you whore your cell number out, you start getting fucking salespeople calling and wasting your minutes. For $20.00 a month, I'll keep my landline.

I've got comcast also. As for phones, went wireless about 2-3 years ago and am happy with it. All I gotta do now is get a wireless router for my comp. then everything would be more gooder. :icon_wink

Yeah, I have been wireless since 2000, my cell bill was always cheaper then my landline, and now I have nation wide long distance and unlimited calling for about ten bucks less then what I was paying the phone company for local service . FU to the phone company’s, I hope they loose their ass, they have been fucking us long enough .

My only problem with completely wireless (cell) or any VoIP service is this:

In a power outage, you have NO phone - a POTS phone draws it's power from the line itself, and will remain on in a power outage. There is nothing scarier that being in a blackout and needing to call 911 - and you can't because you have no internet connection, or the cell towers are down.

I have been using Vonage for about 6 months now calls are clear a don't even notice a difference. I even disconnected my land line going to the street and plugged my VOIP into the main box in my house, now all the jacks in my house use VOIP. as for blackouts I have a battery bakup for the equipment so if anything like that happens I can still use it.

Battery backup won't help if you lose your data feed from your broadband connection though, as tends to happen along with power outages.

Also, 911 can't trace your cell phone to your exact location. If you have any kind of emergency and can't tell them where you are, you're fucked.

Also, I need a phone big enough to sit on my shoulder. I have no luck with headphone mics and cell phones. I talk on the phone at home with the thing glued to my shoulder. With a cell phone, it always crashes to the floor. Trying to rest it btwn. my head and shoulder is the number two reason I drop my cell till it busts every time. (Number 1 is it falls out of my lap when I get out of my car)

Plus, with VoIP service, I don't think there even is a 911 - at least not without an extra fee (I could be wrong about that though).

I just moved, and I don't want to get the landline. It's so expensive with the taxes and long distance and all. My cell works in the house but I am thinking on vonage or one of those kinda services. Is it worth it? Has anyone had any trouble with it? It's so much cheaper than the phone company. Need advice on this one guys:)

I'm stuck having to add a landline to my wirless service. I've been wireless for years but the missed and dropped calls are just too much. Feedback if I go Vontage, I'll pm you so you can refer me.

Cell phones still sound like Real Audio circa 1998.

I am pondering this... Once I am moved into the new house, I may get Vonage or something similar. I'd go totally wireless but my future mother-in-law will be living with us and even though we could just get her a cell phone of her own I think it's opening a can of worms that I don't want to open.

I had AT&T CallVantage (VOIP) and had nothing but problems. First it was adjusting the settings on the ATA, then checking with the cable company, then phone compatibility problems. It just wasn't worth the aggravation. I canceled after three weeks.

Yeah, I would have saved about $30 bucks a month but with a landline you know it's gonna work fine everytime. I think VOIP services are still a year or two away from being technically sound enough to be worth migrating to. However, I do have some concerns after reading some industry magazines regarding security. If you're relatively computer savvy, this might not be a concern.
