The RAID that supports all of the groups and personal drives at my job shit the bed today, and the backplane crapped out so I can't even rebuild it. FUCK YOU DELL! Now I get the joy of staying here all night rebuilding my RAID from scratch and restoring from backups.
I love my job, honestly.... http://www.wackbag.com/images/smilies/icon_evil.gif

8:30 pm and I'm still sitting here in my office, waiting for my counterpart from our Wilkes Barre PA location to come in with some new hardware to replace the SHIT that died on me this morning..... things are DEFINITELY not going to be alright any time soon. :( I can't even go home tonight, because by the time I get done here it'll be too late to go in, just to turn around and come back again in the morning. I HATE THIS PLACE!!! NOTHING WORKS HERE!
Oh, yeah.... hi, Nik. How are ya, honey? http://www.wackbag.com/images/smilies/action-smiley-069.gif

FUCK YOU DELL!Dude, you're hurtful!
I like Dell most of the time for standards adherence, except they spend nothing on R&D, and don't use AMD chips. FU Dell!

Joey, were you using Open Manage Array Manager to alert you when the drives start to go bad? Is it just a bad backplane though? If it is you could probably still save the whole thing by just swapping out the backplane or the array controller. Is it a PERC onboard, or a PCI array controller? You can also swap the controller out and then go into the configuration and read the array configuration off the DRIVES rather than the NVRAM.
Sometimes these things can be salvage - you just need to have Jimmy Stewart on the other end of the phone reassuring you....
seriously though, don't forget that the array controller has the array config, but so do the drives - that can perhaps save you here before you totally rebuild from scratch.

I agree that Dell sucks. I have had so many problems with my Dell lap top I got a couple of months ago. I think it has been broken more than it hasn't. But, I don't know how to fix it. So, everytime I pay to have it fixed because when you call Dell for help.. they can never help you.

yeah, Spork, we do have open array manager. Also, we do believe our backplane crapped out. But we also had bad drives in the array, and the hot swaps that were set up before I came onboard here were never configured, so they didn't do their jobs. I'm in the middle of a scrub now. Friggin 4 hours to get that going before I can do a restore. This blows. (especially since my most recent backup is almost a month old! How to spin THAT happy horseshit?)
