I took a look at the site. Some of the soldiers are requesting toiletries. I'm sure many of you travel. If you do, the small soaps and shampoo's they provide at hotels are perfect. When I am in a hotel. I make sure I clear off the toiletries every night and put them in my bag so the maid service will restock them the next day. It's a quick, easy way to help them out.

I have a large supply of them that I will be sending out soon.

How do you pick a soldier? Not the actual directions for doing so, but choosing. How do you choose?

I'm not sure what you are asking.

How do you find one?
Under the "where to send" tab there is a list of soldiers that you can select to send things to.

How did I pick one?
I tried to chose a moderate sized group. Most of them mention how many people the represent. I am choosing a group where everyone will be able to get something out of what I send.
As far as how to narrow it down even more? I read a bunch of the posts there and tried to select a group that seems to have the worst living conditions.

Being former enlisted man, I did not really trust the officers that much, but I think in this case, I will pick a junior officer to send a package to so he/she can divide it among his/her guys

You answered the question perfectly. I was looking at the list of people and trying to come up with a reason to send a care package to one person over another. I didn't realize there was a way to send to a group. I have so many of those hotel bottles of shampoo/conditioner and lotions- I always wondered why I kept them. Maybe it was so I could send them to a Marine.

Same here, I have no idea why I kept them either (OCD?) but now that I saw this, I know!!!!

I wonder if they would like the Cum Clean wipes the boys got in Vegas?

I teach fifth grade and last September (around the 11th) my class put together care packages and sent them to soldiers in Iraq. We sent tons of stuff (from toiletries to frisbees to entenmann's brownie bites). They were very appreciative and the soldier whom everything was addressed to actually sent back a letter personally thanking the students for their generosity. It is a great site and a great way to give a little back to those brave men and women who are defending our liberty.

Can you send them burned cd's? If so I'll get em whate'er they want. They don't have Earl tunes in Iraq or Afghanistan...

My mom sent out a package this past christmas. I felt as she did very pleased to know that the person and fellow troop who received the package would be very happy. We sent everything from candy, magazines, canned tuna(which they love I was told),hygene products and much more. We probably spent around $60 or a little more just to give the troops a little comfort back from home.

very cool

I had , at the most, passing thoughts about sending stuff to the troops. But I never really knew what/where/how to send it.....that site's tailored for lazy misanthropes like me :)

Yea it was very easy to figure out. The hardest part was to figure out whom to send it too. There are so many soldiers and you want to help them all out. That is why we packed as much as we could without going outside the weight limit.

Thanks for the link. They even have it setup with another web site (treatanysolider.com) so the care packages are put together for you if you are like myself and too lazy to box the stuff up and ship it yourself. Worked fine for me anyway.

Not sure how long ago you served, I got out in '98 after 4 yrs enlisted and 6yrs commissioned service (the Navy paid for college). In nearly every command I was at JOs took good care of their guys and gals. The only senior Os I had some issues with were those with extended tours in DC.

Anyone who reads this thread, this is a GREAT program that really supports our service men and women. Check out the site, get some items and ship 'em out

I think that’s a good piece of advice; if you’re putting together a large care package, send it to a junior officer. He lives with his people and he knows his soldiers, he will divide it up fairly.

"Midshipman, watch out for your people. They will make or break your tour of duty." ...... SSGT "R's" little piece of advice, while I was doing push ups in the P.I. sun. Served me well for 6 years.

Thought I'd give this thread a bump since I used the web site in 2005 and again today. Great website for supporting the soldiers.
