it works fine for 2 months and the MOMENT i decide to install on my roomates computer, it fucks it up. whats happened is i was waiting for counter strike to load, got its updates, then when to the main screen which froze (because of the firewall i think) so i start pushing crtl alt del a little too much, alt-tabalt-tab, all that. finally i get frusterated, pull out the plug, and now when i try to boot it back up it always freezes on the windows xp screen, just loading and loading and loading. i cant even get it to work in previous safe settings or safe mode.

i am quite livid about this now, and was wondering if any one had some advice on how to rectify this without telling him and having hime have to reload the whole system.

Boot off an XP or 2000 CD and go to the recovery prompt, and type in chkdsk /f

No, it's check disk... chkdsk just fixes file system errors.

i check ur hardware 1st ive had lots of probs where it looked like the software but it was a bad stick of ram (which happens alot) id just try testin the hardware b4 dumpin all my data
reformats never hurt after a while but its nice to plan it and back up all ur stuff

i get my new p4 (640HT) 3.6, 1 gb ram, and ATI X850XT PE 256mb in tom., and should be wasting my life again on hl2 and bf2 by the end of the week

Why are you blaming Half-Life 2? It sounds like you fucked up. If I was your buddy I'd be pretty pissed off at what you did. But then again he didn't even let you know to shut down the firewall. You two stink. Good luck though :icon_lol:
