I am just putting this out there because I know some of you out there are pretty good computer programmers. NYS (along with about 30 others I've discovered) has a new inspection system for 1996 or newer vehicles (those with a computer system that is OBD 2 compliant). These vehicles no longer require the dyno test with the exhaust sniffer. Rather, the inspection machine is just plugged into the OBD 2 port and the inspection computer talks to your car's computer. If it finds anything out of the ordinary your car fails.

Here's what I am asking for...can any programmer create a program that can run on a PC that can be used to fool the new style inspections. So rather than plug into your car's computer, the machine is plugged into the PC running this software which would automatically spit out passing information.

Trying to bypass all their bullshit equipment is a good way to visit Sing Sing on the inside for a couple of years.

You should just fix your car. It would be easier and more beneficial for all.

Im not an automotive engineer, but I have worked with engine electronics and diagnosis for a little bit. I think your plan is highly doubtful unless youre an electrical engineer with an oscilloscope. Youd have to emulate every sensor, and the way it communicates with the ECM. Its not just off/on circuit type deal, theres different voltages, PCM (pulse code modulation) and a bunch of other stuff that I dont even know about... Its probably just easier to get the car fixed. Autozone does free scanning, you can get an idea of what kinds of codes (if any) before you actually go for the official inspection.

We have been using this system in PA for almost a year now. The test
checks your vehicle for trouble codes, wether the SES light is on or not.
OBDII readyness status. That means the car has to have been run under
certain conditions with no failures and wether your gas cap will hold
pressure for their specs. I don't know of anyway to by-pass it yet,
if the test is working properly.
( Actually there is a glitch in the software that you can use to bypass
the test and they haven't fixed it yet. :icon_wink )

I already have a program for my cheap PC laptop called VAG COM. It is similar to the VAG 1551 computerrs VW dealers use to scan computers. If you can write that pogram, you can reverse engineer that to spit out values that the inspection computer is looking for. My car is in perfect running order, but I ran into a problem because I no longer have a factory radio, and the inspection machines are not able to scan my car until I go into my dash and disconnect it for a 30 second test.

i hate relying on computers cause theres always some glitch.

Absolutely... There's always a way around 'em. I'd like to plug a notebook computer into the system and see what info I could get out of it...
