Yes, yes, I know his album is about 8 years late, but I've been listening to Appetite for Destruction and Use Your Illusion again lately, and I must say, the man has an absolutely amazing voice. He's in my top 5 greatest rock voices ever list. Anyone agree?

i love guns n roses. unfortunatley years of wear and tear and not taking care of himself have really taken a toll on axl rose. his voice is no where near how great it used to be.

Did you see the appearance on the VMA's? He hit those fucken high notes real well. Tired himself out running around in the beginning though.

yeah.. it was mediocre and he was completely shot after doing one song. i think if he got into shape and trained a little bit he could be right back up there. i would love to see a reunited solid guns n roses tour. it will never happen though.

They could have been the next Rolling Stones but instead we ended up with a few good albums and a drawn out backstory. VR is pretty good though.

One of my favorite bands in high school, when Appetite first released. Like them or not, they could have been one of the quintessential bands in rock 'n roll history (like a Queen, Pink Floyd, Stones, AC/DC, Metallica, The Who, etc...), but Axl fucked them all.
He's still a young guy. I would love to see him rebound and come back to create even just a couple of the greatest albums ever, but I'm not holding my breath. Too much Sid Vicious in him.

Appetite rocked. Axl's a douche.

It's interesting, the band's success is owed entirely to Axl Rose, and it's demise is also owed entirely to Axl Rose.
Would be nice to see a reunion show, if Axl were to get his shit together.... but that'll never happen.

Come on...
Axls my favorite lead singer, GNRs my favorite band and I actually liked the 2002 VMAs performance, but he struggled through "WTTJ" and "Paradise City." He did do a great job with "Madagascar" though.

How is their success owed entirely to Rose? The music was completely collaborative, Slashs presence and star-power rivals that of any non-frontman I can think of and the other guys made the band what it was, musically and image-wise. A good portion of their success is owed to Axl, as it is to Slash. To say "entirely" is way off the mark.
Im really anticipating the Chinese Democracy album. I dont think any other album, with the possible exception of Smile, is as storied and anticipated as this one. I posted a bunch of the demos and live tracks here a while ago, and it sounds good so far. I also dig Velvet Revolver a lot.

I STILL listen to GN'R, liked I've said in another thread, once Izzy left, it was downhill from there. I too believe Axl is one of the great voices of rock, I love that angst in that voice, yet being melodic about it too. He should of just done his own side project instead of pissing everyone in the band off. Of course I'm gonna buy Chinese Democracy, I wonder who he has to thank if this album finally ever does come out.

I constantly listen to GnR to this day. It is a travesty if there is never a reunion. Even if it's just one time.

If Axl Rose hand delievered a copy of Chinese Democracy to my front door I'd hock a gob of spit on it and hand it back to him, telling him to fuck off. There are still people in hollywood that kiss his ass. Fuck Axl Rose.
This abomination that he's been working on for how many fucking years is a prime example of what Opie talks about, a band that continues on with just the name of the band but no original members remaining.

I've actually been listening to Use Your Illusion on and off today. Forgot how good the double cd was. Last night I found a vid on youtube of him doing a soundcheck where his voice is shot to shit, and other videos of him getting pissed off during shows

Use Your Illusion albums were the best! Love the Izzy sung numbers, 14 Years, Right Next Door to Hell, especially Double Talkin' Jive! Don't Damn Me is a very awesome piece that pumps me up too. The Spaghetti Incident was great for what it was, but very lazy for Any band to do. For Axl to still call his project Guns N' Roses is a travesty to the highest degree.

"Mr. Brownstone" is still one of my favorite songs of all time, but sadly G&R are dead, and whatever that would come out under that name would tarnish the legacy, something I bet Axl actually cares about (hence why he won't really release anything and whatever he attempts to do is cancelled since he must feel immence pressure to re-create something that huge)

Appetite, Lies, & Use your Illusions were some of the greatest rock albums, but unfortunately Axl became a total douche & fucked it all up. He's now so wrapped up in himself he probably doesn't even realize that almost nobody cares anymore.

The heart of the band was definetly Axl's voice and lyrics, but supposedly Izzy Stradlin wrote a lot of GNR's big songs...
I also think the band took a hit, when they lost Steven Adler on drums...Matt Sorum is a great drummer but the stuff Adler played really added some balls to the sound

I think a lot of it was owed to the band as a whole. Would have it sounded the same without Slash's playing style? Or with a different bass player than Duff?
It was just a great combination of people.
As far as Steven goes, he supposedly was so constantly fucked up that they had to splice together his parts to even make 'Civil War' work.

Duff sang 14 years, not sure about the other songs you named.
If they had taken the best 15 songs from UYI I and II and made one disk, they could have had two albums in the top 20 in the history of rock music, instead, they have one(appetite) and a bloated two disk set with a lot of great songs, and a lot of terrible songs.

Axl is just a perfectionist. He wants things to be just right before the big unveiling.
When GNR does unite, they will outsell U2, Stones, everyone...
