Got it last night at 7. Pretty big lines at both game stores in the mall I picked it up at (Quaker Bridge near Princeton, NJ.) Here's my initial take:

My local EB got the game in last night at 1, but apparently, they couldn't release it until 7 PM. So, I went to the mall, got my hair cut at 6:30, and strolled into line at 6:55. Big mistake. I ended up 50 people back from the register. If I had skipped my haircut, I woulda been first in line and would have saved a huge wait.

Anywho, 45 minute later I strolled out of the mall, game in hand. Also picked up the hintbook, only because it is massive. It is over 300 pages and weighs more than your average college text.

Anywho, the game is GIGANTIC, but ya'll know that already. I am 3 hours in, and still on the "tutorial" missions (one teaches you hand to hand fighting by beating up a crack dealer, one teaches you drive-bys, etc.)

However, I did see there are just a ton of things to do besides the missions. You can go to the gym and work out, play basketball, etc. You can also find rival gangs spraypaint and tag over them for rewards, take photos, find oysters, horseshoes, etc.

You start out having access to all of Los Santos, which is pretty fuckin' big. According to the map, it is maybe 25% of the total play area. If you try to leave the city, you get a wanted level that doesn't go away. I kept getting lost until I remembered how the map system worked. Fortunately, you can also set custom waypoints in the map that appear on your radar.

Some issues I ran across: the game is blurrier than I remember other GTAs being, but I'm also used to playing them on the PC. Also, the sound mixing seemed weird. At default levels, the game sounds overpowered the radio and I had to fudge with the levels to get a good mix. The dialogue sounds like it was recorded into a tin-can, probably due to massive levels of compression to fit it all on one disk.

Still, you just can't believe how massive it is. With 3 hours in, that puts me roughly 1/4th of the way through Fable. With this, I'm barely starting the story.

Also worth mentioning is the the cast. Here's a small list of notable names in the game:
Axl Rose is a DJ
Wil Wheaton is a radio newscaster.
Andy Dick has a radio show.
Some of the main characters are played by:

Phaizon Love
James Wood
Debi Mazar
Samuel L. Jackson

They need to make credit cards with age data on the card. This way they just swipe and you can buy. If you pay with cash you get ID'd

What compounds the problem is that in Los Santos, there's a sort of heat-shimmy effect. It may be smog as well. So, everything looks even blurrier.

OK, I picked mine up earlier in the day and haven't gotten to play yet. The guy at the Gamestop tried to shill a new memory card on me, telling me that I will need it because it wont work on an old one if anything else is on it and I'd have to format mine and that would take 3 hours (there's no Format mode for memory cards as far as I know on the PS2). I asked the guy "What shade of stupid do you think I am?", declined, then just bought the game and left.
So, now I have to ask, has anyone had a problem using their used memory cards with a bunch of shit on it with this game? I'd hate to find out that he wasn't lying. Not that I wouldn't erase everything I have on the cards to play the game. I'm just curious if this has been an issue with anyone else, and if I should go back to the store and smack that retailer in the gums with my copy before I go home.

after you do the third mission in the beggining missions you will be able to get into the barber shop, its part of a mission one of your boys takes you to the barber shop. the gyms open up after the 3rd mission in the Sweet missions. and the fast food places should already be open. look on your map for the icon go there and walk into the door with a yellow triangle.

When u get futher in the game with sweet.. u get to break into a lot of houses and rob them... its pretty cool.. ive been playing since 1 and just stopped now... i had to take a break cuz i kept cursing at myself for fucking up... some of the cheat codes are the same as the previous two games..

just got mine last night, circuit city was sold out and toys r us but no one must of thought to go to the target 5 min. away cause they had a bunch.
so far the game is real cool, i over ate and now my guy is a fat slob who cant run. i have a memory card with a whole bunch of stuff on it, so the guy who was asking on a earlier post doesnt have to worry, you dont need to buy a new one.

Read about it happening to people on other boards, but haven't seen it yet. Wonder if it is a glitch or just a funny thing. I've seen people fall out of the sky and splat on the ground, but I think it was just an NPC spawning bug. :)

The sheer volume of data on one single disk has something to do with it I'm sure. Something had to be compromised. Not that the graphics are bad, just a bit lacking in resolution.

I'm sure for the PC release everything will be crystal.

I don't really get in a daily routine. If I am near a food place, I will go eat a salad. My guy is already at maximum muscle so I don't go to the gym any more. I'm just trying to do some of these missions

when you get to a certain point, you get to go to war with rival gangs and take over the city block by block... i'm really getting in to that now(more than doing misisons)

I think it was someone here that mentioned that you can get in the airport by parking next to the main gate and then hopping on top of your ride and jumping onto the roof of the security booth to get over the fence. I tried it and it works, you just need a ride that is tall enough. :icon_wink

yea I mentioned that. I'm talking about the other airport. The fences are too high in it. And if you fly into it from Los Santos, there are no planes you can fly in the second airport.

So I was playing the game and the part that I was at was out in the country side. It was like one of the last missions out in the country and it was a race against your crazy girlfriend Catalina. And she is racing you with her new boyfriend. And if you notice, her boyfriend is the character you played in GTA3. And Catalina was the main villian in GTA3. I just thought it was cool that you interact with the main characters from GTA3.

To delete data saved on disk :
1- remove cd from cd-rom drive
2- hit reset
3- pick one of the memory disk's ( if you have 2 only)
4- delete away

My son was playing and he had his cousin play along with him on a second controller. They got in a car and one drove while the other hung out the window an targeted pedestrians at all angles around the car.

I hope the next GTA they make available for online play. Could you imagine how wild that would be... running into other online players. It would turn into the wild west, and most people would probably forget about doing the missions.

This mission took me a few times. You just have to keep up with the train and stay on the side. A few times I wasn't looking ahead and I was hit by an oncoming train. So be aware.

Oh and if people were wondering where to get a pilot's lience, you get it on the third island. I did it yesterday. The only thing I was doing today was gambling in the casinos in Las Venturas. I am amazing. I am taking the house for all their money in blackjack. I am at the point where the most I can bet is $1 million. I haven't been using cheats for money either. They got poker and slot machines and all that other stuff. It's awesome.

Stay on the right side of the other track next to the train and just keep up with the thing and you'll get it.... You can also jump onto the train right when it comes out of the tunnel and you're on the hill.

I hope the next GTA they make available for online play. Could you imagine how wild that would be... running into other online players. It would turn into the wild west, and most people would probably forget about doing the missions.
They would have to have SOME structure to it, or it would be complete anarchy. You wouldn't be able to play for 5 min. without being run over by a car or shot in the face. It would be cool, but they would have to do something to keep it from being TOO nuts.

im proudly in on the second city. now 23 percent done with the game it only fucking took 29 hours of play. i fucking love the rc store missions. the last one is fucking cool. a little mini battle on a closed of table. fucking A. you guys shouyld to the airport in the golfer getto. Jump the fence and fly your very own lear-jet. it's fucking amazing. there are two hight's in the game. i just love flying the P-51 makup . it's great shooting down military jet's with a prop plane over that fucking crazy military base.
oh and another thing . How the fuck do you rob all of these food places. pointing a gun at them just doesnt seem to fucking work these days. i only ask because i havent got my GTA sa bible.

ive finishished protecting grove st. thers nowhere to go anymore.big smoke is gone so is evryone else.should i just start gang wars in all the purple neighborhoods? should i finish the 100 spray paint tags? will it be a pain in the ass to convert evrything to green(by starting gang wars? am i going to have to keep protecting my turf? will they get the message? ) can 2 parts of my turf come under attack at once? On the other hand if you don't care about any of those things, just do the remaining last three missions (I'm guessing that you have already done mission "Doberman" where you take over Glen Park from the Front Yard Ballas for Grove St.) and move onto the country side missions. Some of the pieces of turf can be a pain in the ass to take because either the area that you take is really small, so other gang members pretty much spawn right around you, or it has too many streets in it, allowing rival gang members to attack you from almost every direction. For the most part taking turf is pretty easy though. As far as your turf being attacked, it's only one area at a time, and it usually happens once every 24 hours or so. So basically if you time it right you could take over at least two pieces of turf, save, and then get ready to defend your turf.

After you go to do the country side missions, all of the gang turf goes back to normal. There's no more purple, yellow, and green areas, it's just all pretty much owned by the Ballas, even the area around your first safe house. If you do decide to take turf, start with the pruple area South of Grove St. The reason why I say this is because once you have that whole area done, you'll only get attacked from the north, because in order for another gang to make an attack on your turf they have to have a piece of turf next to it. It took me pretty much a day to take over all of the turf in Los Santos, but even though it all got taken away from me, I still think it was worth it.

You have to burn EVERY single bush. It might not look like a weed bush but you have to burn EVERYTHING. You shouldn't see any green when you are done. Make sure you destroy the glass around them too.

I have too much fun exploring and creating havoc to sit around in that small little city. Also, consider the fact I suck. It would take me forever to unlock the other areas if I did not cheat.

One of my favorite ways to cheat is to use the regular codes to arm everyone with machine guns and flame throwers and what not, then turn on the riot code where they all fight each other. In order for this to be fun, you need the Gameshark to turn off the police. If you don't have it, the police will come after you, and only you if you shoot someone. I don't think that is fair in a riot, so I turn them off. It is fun to sit around with your friends playing that way and seeing who can live the longest.

BTW, not sure if any of you guys have tried the online multiplayer mods for GTA 3 and Vice city but if you haven't, you should. Tons of fun. Usually people on the same server will get together and make up their own gametypes. Rockstar sucks for not supporting it more.

i suck at it and can't get enough points for the beach party mission. i did all the other missions i can do up to this one. i don't think i can do any others at this point and i fucking suck at dancing.

also how do u keep your sex appeal up? i have the full muscles and stamina, but it seems my sex appeal only goes up after I complete a mission and then it goes back down after i enter a building.

There are many tips that may help with the dancing missions but they are all meaningless if you are unfamiliar with the button locations on the controller. If you are second guessing yourself or looking at the controller you will not do well on these missions. What you can do is tape a little cheat sheet on your television with the button pattern on it. Put it just below the circle that pops up in the dance missions.

Different clothes and haircuts have an effect on sex appeal and respect. General rule with clothes is the more expensive the better. The best cuts are the blond cornrows and the grooved cut. Also an expensive/tricked out car will boost them substantially. When you step out of them that is.

Unfortunately you're stuck. You need to do the dance mission before anything else will pop up. Remember, beating the dance is just the first part of that mission. After you steal the van all the partygoers will hop in their vehicles and come after you. Some of them are packing SMG's. Just try to get back to the road as soon as possible and you should have a decent head start on them.

To gain a crew you need to target a fellow Grove Streeter (R1) then press up on the directional pad. The more respect you gain the larger crew you can handle. And no, they don't help with burgleing homes. They are a small asset when doing gang wars, but IMO only as fodder, they are terrible shots and are in the way more often than not. If you choose to run with a crew remember pressing down on the Directional pad will instruct them to hold their position and pressing up will rally them to you.

If you go in one and take the high dollar items, TV/VCR, then do the same to the second house. When you return to the first house all the items you have already taken will have respawned. You can go back and forth until the sun comes up and have a truck full when you drop off at the warehouse. I was making about 40k a night when doing this.

Sweet is back. We set up the gang again and have been doing some stuff. Right now I am on a mission that is like the LA Riots for the Rodney King stuff. Tenpenny was aquitted and I already killed Pawlaski so he didn't matter. But the whole city is rioting, buildings are burning, total chaos. It's awesome.

you don't have to do Zero's missions for the storyline. I only beat the first mission where you shoot the incoming planes and I still beat the storyline.

the only way to win the rc mission is by getting pure luck....i had about 25 tries before i finally beat it, just because the last van i had to destroy was already heading towards zero's and i was able to land with about a half a second worth of fuel....just keep trying

I have done this mission about 20 times and I still can not pass it. I take the right dirt road. I have taken all the dirt roads. I even said fuck the dirt road and run along side the train the whole way.

I was having so much trouble with this mission. I failed it about 30 times before I gave up and decided to cheat. That might have had something to do with all of the drinking I had done that night though. The way to beat it using cheats is simple, use the cheat that slows down time.

When the box pops up to hit left for negative and right for positive, just keep hitting right until the dance thing pops up. When she says let's dance I think you have to respond positive one more time, it should be you standing there, the music starts and a cirle at the bottom of the screen in the middle. It takes a couple of seconds but then the sequence of buttons starts coming across the bottom of the screen.

If you guys think the Wrong Side Of The Tracks mission is hard (I actually got it my first try by staying to the far right just on instinct) wait till you get down to Just Business, when you have to be the one shooting from the back of the bike - that fucker is HARD.

Couple of tips - you can make a lot of money betting on the horse with the longest odds at ITB.

If you're wanted level is high you can always duck in a clothing store and by at least two or three items and all stars dissappear.

If you own the beach house all the way out on Santa Maria Beach, you can pretty much rove around there killing everyone without getting it into it with the cops. Stay all the way over on the beach by the lighthouse pier - this helps get your weapon levels up. I was able to do two pistols, but I've abandoned them for the Desert Eagle (located at the southeast corner of LS, on the beach). I'm almost up to two Uzis.

If you have the Desert Eagle, use it for the first part of Just Business - it rocks.

There's also body armor right near CJ's Mom's house - go out the alley to your left as you walk out of the house, to the road, make another left, up to the bridge, down the ditch to the left, and under the first tressle you come to, up on the left. Come on cheaters, no need for that. I made some quick $$$ on the off track betting, if you just bet the longshots it seems like you win enough to make out even if you only win 2 out of 10. I also think the pimping missions can get you quick cash too. Winning the 8-track race gets you $10K as well.

I got through "Life's A Beach" and "Just Business" last night on first tries, right in a row. It was sweet. I'm rolling now with two uzi's, too - you can really fuck some shit up with those babies.

I also found a quad out in the country and brought it all the way down to the beach house - riding that through the sand blasting people is fucking SWEET.

it takes a lil while to do but you just have to keep diving underwater till it eventually fills up. it takes a good bit of time. just keep staying under till the bar drains and repeat numerous times. i actually just did it saturday.

3rights, you get the pilot's license when you get to Las Venturas... it's actually one of the missions that you need to do to proceed once you get there.

JerseyGirl - The camera is used to take pictures at various points all over San Andreas. there are a certain number of pictures that you need to take to get 100% complete. I have read about them on GTA message boards, but i havent found any yet.

well you have to buy it first. then you have to do three missions to steal certain vehicles. once those are completed youll get 8,000 a day. i did it last night. still havent collected any money for it. but the missions do have a small part in the over all story so im glad i did them.

Also, for Supply Lines, it's not luck. I went back and used my method that I posted and beat it about 3/5 times. The two times I lost, I tried going after target "5" first. Here's the targets to take on, in the order I did it everytime I won, because I'm SURE people are still fucking this one up. It is a bit of a bitch to learn.

Target 1: Off the roof, rudder left, Van on the cross street. The driver hops out, kill him quickly, then swoop to your left, so you're facing the top of the "T" intersection, and then swoop right towards the dot, which is target 2.

Target 2: Bicycler. He dismounts and fires with an Uzi, but he can be dispatched as long as you keep straight on, keep your speed down, and just keep firing. As soon as he drops, IMMEDIATELY hit the throttle, and swerve right down the next sidestreet, catch some altitude, and head towards target 3.

Target 3: Another van. This guy doesn't dismount, but he does have someone riding uzi with him. Just fly really close to his ass and open fire. When you see him catch fire, pull up, turn around, and point towards targets 4 and 5, halfway across town.

*** At this point, you should have spent a total of about 30 seconds ideally dispatching these three, and barely have any gas gone. Go above the rooftops and beeline to target 4. As tempting as it may be, do NOT go after target 5, target 4 will be so far away your gas will be eaten by the time you have to land ***

Target 4: Motorcycle, with passenger riding Uzi. He's usually found parked either on a hill, or crossing a cross street. Get up really close behind him, make SURE you're lined up, and then open fire on him without stopping. You'll set his bike on fire or kill him within about two seconds. When either of these happens, IMMEDIATELY get your ass out of that area and point towards target 5.

*** At this point, you should still be above a half tank. If you get the "half tank" prompt before you engage target 4, restart. You won't make it back. I've tried. ***

Target 5: Van, just like 3, doesn't dismount, but has a gunman riding with him. Use the same strategy as 3, get right up behind him and open fire until you see flames. When you do, get above the rooptops and beeline home.

Just some general tips for that mission, you can land the plane, that causes no damage. However, don't hit walls. Hitting walls or "Wrecking" the plane causes a bit of damage, but more importantly, totally ***** your fuel supply as you ---- out on the ground trying to get airborne again. That and with uzis being fired at you all day, you need all the health that little RC can get.

The best way to engage the targets is divebombing. Stay above them, point down, and pull the trigger. Failing that, just get on their ass and fire. Regardless of what others said, I found it INFINITELY easier to either get on their ass while airborne, or just pull up, throttle off, and aim down at them.

This one is entirely possibly, it took me many a tries, and I tried many a ways to do this bitch. I always ran out of fuel after killing the fifth one, so I figured, better care more about my fuel.

Heres what I did, its a long method honestly, but it worked. When you start, head for the motorcyclist to the immediate left. Start firing at him when you see him, he'll jump off and you'll kill him in one hit most likely. Don't worry too much about your aim, you basically just need to be pointing at him because you have auto aim.

Next you pull up and over the building, bank right; or you can more safely turn around and go around the corner, whichever's easiest for you, and head for the van you should have seen from take off. By now, it should be at the corner of the street it was on. The guy will jump out of the van when you fire, slow down so he'll get up and you can kill him with this single pass. Keep going straight, toward the next target which should be not far ahead.

This next van seems to turn randomly, but is slow enough to catch up too. When you fire, the van will run and shoot back. I found the easiest way to kill this one is to land directly behind the van, or to the side, real close so that you can very quickly blow up this van without miss. As soon as it catches fire from your attacks, get away to avoid the blast as well as the gunners, as they're done for.

By now, the fourth target should be the pair on the dirt bike. They're the closest, yet they're so damn far away. The flight there will eat your fuel up big time, and you need to save it for the trip back. However, the fifth target is a van that is even farther away than the dirtbike pair. You will definately lose all your fuel if you go after them right now. So what I did next was fly back to Zero's roof (You should probably target it on your map since its unmarked during the mission), and wait. These fuckers are annoying let me tell you, they're slow, and they move randomly. That means even though the trick is to wait for them to come to you, chances are they wont right away. However, most of the time, the dirtbike pair are the first to come. Look at your map every 10 seconds or so watching their movement. Once they turn onto a street that leads directly to you, and you're sure they'll get close enough, fly to a corner and stakeout there until they're in close range for a quick kill, so you can avoid a chase and wasting fuel. After that, do the same thing for the other target, but this will most likely be the van.

When I got to the fourth and fifth target, I waited, and luckily the motorcycle was near the twin black windowed sky scrapers a little north east form zero's roof, and the van was under the freeway approaching cj's garage, so I had plenty of gas to get back zero's closeby roof.

So basically, I say for the last two, stay close to zero's roof and let them come to you.

i'm actually trying option 2 as i type. i killed the first 3 bastards and am now waiting on zero's roof for the others. its taking a while but it looks like they are moving towards me. your fuel does not go down when you're on the ground not moving.

I finally finished the supply line missions, after being stuck for 3 fucking days. I finished the mission after that soon after, and now all I have are "S'" on the map. Is the game over, or do I have to go to school to move on to something else? I have an "S" that leads me to nowhere as well.

How far have you gotten in the game otherwise? It's possible that you've finished everything I guess. But the only time I've gone to the map and seen nothing but the S for the schools was when I paused while I was standing in one of them. This will probably be good for others too, but this is definitely the definitive GTA walkthrough that I've ever seen. If you have a question, the answer is probably here.

If you have an uzi or something like that, you just have to catch up to him and shoot him while near him. I ended up killing him on the Freeway. Much easier in an open, straight road.

That one was such a pain in the ass for me, for some reason I couldn't kill him on the freeway, but if you can stick with him long enough eventually he just gets off the bike and starts walking and you can kill him then.

I'm gonna try getting off the bike right when he's standing thier waiting for you to chase him then gonna try firing a missle at him in the alley way. I suck using a motor cycle, especally in that mission where you gotta cut though alleys and shit.

If you follow close enough he will eventually get off the bike. He has 3 others with him for support but they are easy kills.


He will eventually lead you back to near where the mission starts and get off the bike. He gets off in the little park with the 3 christmas tree like metal sculptures near the train tracks.

The only advice I can give you on this one is to not really worry about shooting the cars, focus on the motorcycles. That and practice will get it done, I think it took me 4 or 5 times.

This question goes way past what we're talking about but has anyone done the races in Los Santos yet, two of them are killing me. Don't need them to advance the game but I've heard if you wan all the races it's a $1M bonus.

my advice for that mission is to kill the gunners. If a car has a gunner or the motorcycle has a gunner, then kill them. Thats what helped me pass it.

My advice here would be to max out (hitman) your uzi skill.

Just load a car in your garage and blast away untill it catches fire, walk away from the garage and let the door close. Lather, rinse, repeat.

The damage boost and aiming bonus from hitman will make this mission a piece of cake.

The other thing you can do to get the shooting skill up is to just kill people right around the Johnson house, then when things start to get a little ugly with the cops, run in and save, that will bring your health back up to full, go back out side and kill more people. I got this idea from somebody else on here and it worked great for pistols and the uzi.

That mission i'm on is not in a car, i'm on back of a motor bike w/ Big Smoke driving and I have to shoot off the back of the bike at other bikers shooting at me...The bike explodes and mission failed.

How do I max my sex appeal? I got every tatoo possible, bought new clothes, maxed out Muscle, Now ill try that shooting people on Grove Street to max out that skill, but how do I gain sex appeal?

And how do I get a hooker in the car, its different it seems from GTA III, usually they just walked in, now they have the words that say "Want A Good Time Baby", but they dont walk in the car...

if you press the right arrow on the D-pad, that means you say yes. The left arrow is saying no.
