Today, Capcom Of Japan has officially announced the next generation of the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 5. The big news about this new game is the news that it will not be showing up on Gamecube or the Revolution. Instead, it will only show up on the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360.

Nice! This is awesome news. Resident Evil is 1 of the only reason I have a gamecube, it is good news that I won't have to buy a Revolution.

Number 4 isn't a remake buddy. And it was one of the best games of the year. The reason I bought the gamecube was because they exclusive rights to Resident Evil. Oh also Resident Evil 0 also not a remake. :action-sm

Resident Evil Zero - Exclusive On Nintendo Gamecube, Prequel To RE
Resident Evil - Remake
Resident Evil 2 - Port From Psone
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis - Port From PSone
Resident Evil 4 - All New, Coming Soon To PS2
Resident Evil 5 - All New, Only On 360 and PS3

I think what the Diceman was sayin was that one of the reason he own a GC was because of Resident Evil, no need for confusion now, i have the series completely diagrammed out for people.

There's more Resident evil games than those, though i'm not sure if you were going to go with the RE games that tanked.

Here's praying that nothing changes with the PoV/Aiming/buying system.

I read your post wrong - I thought you said Resident Evil 1 is the main reason you got the Cube.

I know most people would completely disagree with me on this, but I slightly preferred the Res Evil 1 gamecube remake to Res Evil 4....4 was definately a solid game, but got a bit repetitive at times. I never finished it. I think I stopped at the point where I met back up with the Prez's daughter in that mansion or castle or whatever it was.

The main diffrence the REmake and RE4 was the scare factor. There was a huge contrast that i noticed from the creepy enemies and cheap scares of the series before RE4. Some of it partially to the PoV/Aiming, since this is the first game that didn't have a fixed camera angle, and it was irritating to try to aim for the head with a character that aimed/move like a tank.

I don't disagree with you, i'm just too much of a sissy to play REmake and RE0.

agreed, ive been at the point where you first see the hunters in remake and i havent played any further. the cameras + the lack of ammo = a feeling of helplessness thats just so haunting.

i like re4 because it went with a different perspective that i appreciate. it went with the epic story angle (2nd disc gave me a fucking hardon with the knife fight and the helicopter assault). the changable camera angle is the most important feature that made the new style possible though.

Capcom can't ignore Nintendo for long, Resident Evil 4 is the best game that has been released this year and also the best looking game as well, Capcom is going to take tons of awards for this game on the Gamecube. PS3 and 360 are going to get the game, and if any console will lose the series again it will be 360 due to the popularity of PS3 and the demand for the game on the Revolution.

Oh don't get me wrong I bought the remake too. I liked the remake of the first. I loved all the resident evil games besides the awful online ones.

RE got kinda boring and unoriginal when "pt. 3", "Gun Survivors", and "Outbreaks" came out. But part 4 is a masterpiece! I hope they follow up with the RE4 engine.

I hope this one goes into what happened to a lot of the main players like Jill, Chris, and Claire. I think it will since the director (I think it was director...not sure right now) of the series stated that this will be a true continuation of the Resident Evil series since 4 was only a side-story.

I wouldn't really call RE4 a side-story, especially if you play through Ada's extra stuff. There's plenty of stuff that still plays as canon to the rest of the series.

Here's a little more info on the game from IGN. The director says we shouldn't expect this too soon.

July 18, 2007 - Being able to see new footage of Resident Evil 5 was one of our E3 highlights, even though the new trailer didn't really tell us too much about the game. Enter the latest issue of Famitsu, which is home to an interview in which producer Jun Takeuchi shared some of the details we were looking for.

Takeuchi only provided vague hints about the storyline. As many have guessed from the insignia that appears in the footage, main character Chris Redfield is a member of a group called BSAA. According to Takeuchi, something has happened in the desert area that serves as the game's setting, and BSAA has dispatched Chris to investigate.

Once on the scene, Chris encounters a new form of enemy. Takeuchi described the game's enemies as something of human form that has intelligence. However, the foes are neither zombie nor ganado (in reference to the creatures from RE4).

In addition to the new enemy, a certain girl will make an appearance in the game. She's someone whom fans of the series will recognize. In the full version of the E3 trailer (which will be distributed on Xbox Live and PSN later this month), she appears just briefly, but Takeuchi expects her to have a more significant role in the next trailer (no ETA given on that, unfortunately). In the game proper, she will have a big part both in the story and as part of the gameplay.

On the topic of gameplay systems, Takeuchi admitted to the magazine that the hardest part of development so far has been in mixing new elements with part 4's basic gameplay. For the most part, RE5 will be played from a perspective similar to that of part 4, with Chris appearing on the left side of the screen. However, Takeuchi also promised a big surprise addition that he believes is an obvious evolution for the gameplay.

According to Takeuchi, if, after seeing the E3 trailer, you feel RE5 looks like RE4 now, you'll be left with a completely different impression following the next trailer.

Previously, Takeuchi has spoken about the importance of light in the game. In this latest interview, he offered an example of how light will play a role. Say Chris enters a doorless building. The surroundings are bright and the interior is dark, so it takes Chris a few moments to adapt before he can see. The game will replicate this, along with the opposite effect of going into a bright area after being in the dark for an extended period. This is where you can expect to encounter some of the series' trademark fear, this time from the inability to aim or see.

Takeuchi wouldn't provide a solid release date for RE5, but there seemed to be some consensus of it appearing some time before 2010. It will be a long wait, but then again so was the wait for RE4, and that one turned out pretty good.

it looks fantastic. They game play is shown and Chris is surrounded by zombies. Any guesses at who the mystery girl is at the end of the trailer? They say she is someone who huge fans of the series will know and I have played every resident evil multiple times. Only part of her face is shown and hair, she is blonde and is sleeping in water then woken up at the end of the trailer. I can't wait for this game....

If I had to guess, I'd say the mystery girl is Sherry Birkin, the little girl from RE2. She's the only blond I can think of that was in the series that fans would really remember.

After a lil' research, I wouldn't doubt that it could be her.

In the character-specific epilogues featured in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis it is revealed that she was picked up by the military after escaping the city with Leon and Claire, and was then taken into custody by the U.S. government. However, in the fictional documentary Wesker's Report, Wesker states that Sherry is "safe in our hands".

FAngel

Sherry is a possibility - maybe she escaped because Wesker was distracted with everything Ada was doing in RE4.

If it's not her, and they really are referring to "longtime fans" of the series, I offer this theory:

http://www.elza-walker.com/EWBanner.jpg

Back before Capcom came up with the idea to put Claire Redfield in the 2nd game, they basically shitcanned the whole project, starting over after it was 80% done. At the time, they had gone with another female biker lead character named Elza Walker, who was basically the exact same person as Claire, except she had blonde hair and no relation to Chris. If this isn't Sherry, I say they dragged this broad out of the woodwork and made her a character after all.

EDIT: Someone on the IGN boards also brought up the fact that they may have brought in the Alice character from the movies.

Direct me to this person, so i may maim them.

After the success of RE4 Game and ports.. i can't imagine Capcom would take that much of a risk of meshing the movies, which has followed THE GAME instead of branching off into it's own scenario... and also has received mixed reviews, into RE5... It'd be a silly move on their part IMO.

This was another blonde. The chick from Code Veronica was blonde but she turned into a hug monster thing. the Sherry thing makes sense because if she was in their hands then that explains why she was in a holding container....
