Ok guys and gals, here's the deal. I have been authorized to de-classify certain information in the interest of a better organized Army. You all have been breaking off into cells for mission briefings, via IRC, AIM chat, Yahoo chat, and Foundry chat. This results in a lack of coordination. There is one main War Room, based on IRC (Internet Relay Chat). IRC can accomodate THOUSANDS of users per room, rather than the 30 or 40 per room with AIM, Yahoo, or Foundry chats. To use IRC, you will need to download and install a freeware chat client on your computer. DON'T WORRY, this is a very small (about 650k) download, and it WILL NOT take over your computer like AIM or Yahoo programs will. I do not recommend installing this on a computer at work! Unless your boss is really cool and lets you mess around on the internet and install things, THIS COULD GET YOU FIRED! If you work for a company that has an IT department, forget it.
I will show you how to install mIRC, because that runs on Windows, and I don't have a Mac. The settings will be almost identical on the Mac program though.
For Windows 98/98SE, ME, 2000, and XP, go to www.mIRC.com, Click Download on the left side, and choose the site that is closest to you.
For Mac, go to www.snak.com
For Linux... ahh, if you're using Linux, you don't need my help! :icon_mrgr
Lets begin.
Double click the install icon, and OK your way through the install screen. Do not change the default settings. Once it is installed, check the "Run mIRC now" box and click Finish.
mIRC will open, and you will see a setup screen like this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v227/TaZMaNiaK/mirc/mirc1.jpg
I don't recommend using either your real name OR email address, but these boxes have to be filled in. Just be creative.
Fill in the Nickname box with your Wackbag handle, and if there's a chance it might be taken (if it's something common, like Mike), fill in an alternate, too. You CAN register your nickname with IRC to keep other people from using it. More on that later.
Once you have filled in the first page, click SERVERS on the left menu, and you will see this set of options:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v227/TaZMaNiaK/mirc/mirc25.jpg
Click the IRC Network: selection box, and find the network named IRCtoo and click it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v227/TaZMaNiaK/mirc/mirc2.jpg
Make sure it shows up in the IRC Network: box, and make sure the IRC Server: box says IRCToo:Random Server
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v227/TaZMaNiaK/mirc/mirc3.jpg
You do not neet to change ANY other settings! Leave the New Server Window box unchecked, and click CONNECT TO SERVER
You will see a lot of text scroll by in the Status window. Don't worry about any of it (UNLESS it stops on an error message, like your nick is already in use). When mIRC is done logging in to the server, you will see "(Your Nick) sets mode +i", and a "Favorites" window will pop up.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v227/TaZMaNiaK/mirc/mirc4.jpg
Don't worry about any of the channels in it for now, there's plenty of time for exploring later when you are on weekend pass. In the top box, type ::EDIT -- CENSORED::, and click the UPPER Join button. (Just so you know, ALL channels begin with # (number sign), and there are NEVER spaces in channel names.) You can also join a channel by typing /j #channelname
This will bring up a second window, which is the chat channel.
Now, this is NOT the War Room. This is the security checkpoint. During attacks, a clue to the name of the War Room will be broadcast every few minutes. This clue will be show-related, usually based on an inside joke, and will not make sense if you are not a listener. The answer will be the name of the War Room. So you would type /j #(answer to the clue)
Again, channel names have NO SPACES (so multi word answers are done as one long word), and start with #.
For example:
If the clue is "Who is the Subway Vigilante?", you would type /j #berniegoetz.
Got it? Good.
That being said, a few extra points:
- The War Room WILL NOT be visible in the channel list, so don't bother looking.
- DO NOT ask anyone for the location of the room. If you can't figure out the clue, that's your problem, and that means you probably don't belong in the War Room. If you ask, you will be banned from the server. No second chances.
- DO NOT disclose the location of the room to ANYONE! Do I REALLY need to go into that one?
- DO NOT ask for Ops. You will be banned just for being a tool.
Registering your nickname
You can register your nick, which will give you some extra perks. First, no one else will be allowed to use it. Second, the War Room may only allow registered users at a given time. Third, if you become "ghosted" (if you get disconnected, then reconnect, and the server doesn't release your nickname right away), you can use a special command to release it.
To register:
Make sure you are logged in as the nickname you want
Type /nickserv REGISTER (a 5-8 character password) (your real email address) and hit enter.
Then check your email for a confirmation code (why you have to use a REAL email), and copy it.
Type /nickserv AUTH (Your Nickname) (Confirmation Code)
That's it!
Now every time you log in to mIRC, you set your Nick, and you will get this message:
*NickServ* This nick is probably owned by someone else.
*NickServ* If this is your nick, please type: /IDENTIFY <password>
*NickServ* Your nick will be changed in less than 60 seconds if you won't comply.
Type /IDENTIFY (Password), and you will see:
*NickServ* Password accepted for the nick (Your Nick)
Any questions?

No prob.. I had to edit the room out, and drop one of the screencaps, due to conflicting intel, but you can ask someone for the security checkpoint ONLY (if you are a newbie registered in the last 6 days, you will not be answered). You still CAN NOT ask for the actual War Room.

BTW. I'm not sure if this is the best strategy to coordinate. Some people not being able to connect to the right channel will find other places to congregate.
Also guerilla tactics tend to be more effective in such attacks with multiple splinter cells attacking in various ways and from various directions.

Whats the point of having a security checkpoint room that will allow you into the War Room if you aren't going to tell anyone the name of the security checkpoint room. Thats just to whoever censored out the name of the security checkpoint. I could understand editing it if that were the actual name of the war room.
Anthony'sFinger

someone who's more smarter than me, please correct me if I'm wrong...
but the "EDIT -- CENSORED" bit is not the name of a room but the spot where the name of a room used to be?
if this is true..

Ok here's the deal. This thread was not supposed to be posted yet. I got mixed signals on whether to post it or not. This is why the actual channel name was edited out. It serves as a learning tool though, and it will get you all ready for the next attack, which is why it was not deleted.
A few of you have voiced concerns of a "private" board being set up, and I will tell you now, this is not true. The reasoning behind this is because the bbboys have officially declared victory. The Army must follow the Commanders in Chief, thus a cease-fire was declared. Rogue ops are welcome to (and in no way dissueded from) conduct their own strikes, however, Official Army headquarters (which include the War Room) can not be used for such ops. The War Room and Central Command are closed for the moment, but CentCom will reopen at some point very soon. I will keep you awares. (And stop PMing me! :icon_mrgr )
That being said, follow the HOW-TO, get IRC up and running, and play with it. Learn how to use it. It is a VERY powerful chat system, not like that AIM, Yahoo, and Foundry pussy shit you're all using now. It can handle THOUSANDS of users PER ROOM! Use it for your rogue ops for god's sake!!! That way, you will all be primed and ready to coordinate the next attack in the IRC War Room.
