I hate where I work, everyone knows it. (I work for RCN Cable/Phone/Internet.) That being said, I just realized something pretty wonderful about it. Everybody has been going on and on about FIOS lately here, and I would love that at home, myself. I am dl'ing some stuff here at work with RCN's "mach 10" cable modem, and I am getting downstream transfers averaging 9.5 to 10.5 mbps speeds. Say what you will, that seems fairly peppy for a standard cable modem! Just sayin.....

Nah. Once upon a time, before it was fashionable to do so, I ripped & bootlegged stuff on DVD, hence the nick.

Now that every tool with $100 to spare can do it just as well as I did back in ye oldern days, I don't bother anymore.

For web browsing and P2P, the asymmetric bandwidth is fine. For video games, you need to worry about latency.

Once you start getting into the higher speeds, the websites that you access only give data so fast so it doesn't really pay. The higher bandwidth is needed for things like video.

I've got the RCN Mach 7 and it's fine.

I'd love RCN here. I can see the fucking RCN boxes from my apt, but "they don't have anything in my area". I'd gladly get RCN over SETV.
