actually, the "facade" thing was yet another inside joke that went over your head, so i don't blame you. and Philips didn't pull anything over on the army, there has been plenty of speculation all weekend as to what he was doing, what he was planning, and what his intentions are. his show on friday wasn't about fucking with the Pests, he was probably doing what his bosses told him to do - not take phone calls because they knew that everyone on the end of the line was a Pest who would make him dump out.

as for O&A not giving out the phone numbers, i do not know about that. maybe they just didn't have the time to give the numbers out, maybe they knew nothing but Pests would call in and ask about the Jim Philips thing, which O&A probably can't talk about because of the supposed "Cease and Desist" they were sent. perhaps they knew all the calls would be about Philips and O&A were already in the act of "throwing him back into the 'lake of obscurity.'" and i don't know myself, since i missed Tuesday's show.

but what i do know is that Philips spent the whole day talking about O&A on Thurssday and mentioned them on the top of every hour on Friday, all the while threatening legal action that apparently didn't happen beyond the supposed "Cease and Desist" he sent to O&A. so you can't say that O&A have spent more time talking about Philips. hell, Philips was going on and on Wednesday because they talked about him for an hour and a half that day (but somehow, that number ballooned to two and a half hours throughout Philips' show, more lying on his part). and i bet he could have talked about O&A all he wanted on Monday, since he apparently did not go to the lawyers and file charges like he claimed. so he wasn't legally being stopped, which meant something (or someone) else had to have been muzzling him, and not because he didn't want to give them more recognition. if he did not want to give them any more free publicity, why did he spend the majority of two days prior to then going on and on about them? (And referring to them by "Mr. CUM-ia" and "Mr. Hughes" totally defeated his purpose of not giving them free publicity, since it is the 21st century and most people know how to use search engines.) simply put: his bosses gagged him. his bosses told him to shut up about the whole situation and it will go away. that's a great approach to matters, isn't it? I actually listened to the show today from the website. There were obviously several pest calls that were cut off, making the "show" a chopped-up mess, that was nice. But it was soooo difficult to hang on, the guy is such a weeny and the sidekicks are just wastes of flesh. He had the ratings in hand today and mentioned them about every ten minutes. All I can say is that if this gorko is number 1 in Orlando, that tells me everything I need to know about that place.

Speaking of attacks, I feel compelled to relate the all-time, numero uno revenge is best served cold attack, just in case the young have not heard the tactic. It requires a certain amount of sacrifice.

Rating systems don't look at a direct population vs listeners ratio. Think about it, that would mean that every single person in the city was listening at all times.

They take a sample, and figure that 7-20% (I don't know the exact number) are listening, and run the ratios down that way.

So a 14 share means that 14% of those listening to the radio at any point in time between 4-7 are listening to this unfunny cumstain of a show.

So you figure one guy said the population was 124k, another guy said the pop was 1.4 M, it stands to reason that there's 1.4 M in Orlando, they figure 124kish are actually listening, and out of that, 14% comes up in the mid 20ks.

That this move was apparently prompted by some "personality differences" between her and Monsters chief Russ Rollins (rumored to have roots in their once-romantic-but-long-since-not relationship) made for a venomous Monsters show on Tuesday morning.

But the week was still young. Still to come: an on-air spat between Real Radio afternoon drive host Jim Philips (another '05 "Best of Orlando" winner) and XM Satellite Radio talk-hosts Opie & Anthony. O&A accused Philips of "stealing" one of their on-air bits, resulting in a days-long battle of words between the two shows. Aided by legions of listeners – known, aptly, as "pests" – O&A tore Philips apart, using long segments of Philips' show to ridicule the Phile host. The first day of the back-and-forth made for great radio; day No. 2 was less amusing as Philips spent most of the day swatting "pests" and trying (unsuccessfully) to keep control of his show.

I'm putting my 2 cents in here, because I've read most of the posts. Henryhill, you do make a valid point that there are O&A fans that blindly accept whatever the boys say and do. Those people are pathetic. But, they are like the extreme left-wing nutbags of the Democratic party. They are there, but they aren't very great in number. For the most part, I think O&A do a very good job of encouraging people to think on their own, which is why their show is so popular. They don't feed us bullshit and expect us to blindly accept it.

Now, as far as the O&A Army attacks, there are people who do it and people who don't. The people who do it are no better or bigger fans than the ones who don't. They just choose to do it. I'd say most fans don't, for whatever reason - work, school, family, or they think it's stupid. I for one participated in the Philips attack, and I definitely have a mind of my own. I did it because it was entertaining, and it broke up my otherwise boring life of work and school. I hardly think it's fair to classify people who do attacks as blindly accepting what O&A say.
