Okay, guys. I was trying to keep it under wraps until I got all the information - which is why I didn't post anything yet, but since its gotten so much board time, I thought I'd come out of the woodwork.

I was the guy who came up with this idea.

I talked to DUGOUT DOUG about it this past weekend. I thought of it on Saturday, but no ad agencies are open, so I had to leave several messages. Since then, I've spoken with 3 ad agencies that service the Orlando area. Unfortunately, geography is not on our side. All agencies agree that The Orlando area is one of the most expensive places to advertise (Disney and all). The cheapest I was quoted for a billboard in the Maitland area was $8,000 for 30 days. 30 Days is the minimum. This does NOT include production costs, which would run anouther $1200. This quote is not guaranteed and there is a 30 day wait for production time. Seems pretty expensive.

The other solution, and it might be more affordable, is an advertising truck. A single, dedicated, double ad trucks cost between $4,000 - $6,000 for a work week (5 days) depending on the exact location of rotation - which includes production costs. The good thing about this is that we could select the EXACT neighborhood for the ad truck to drive.

I left my information with all 3 ad agencies and one is calling me back. I explained that we are NOT a company so he was going to get an advertising agent to call back to haggle on price.

Anyway, I don't have enough posts to start a new thread, so if someone wants to actually post a poll to see how many people would REALLY contribute $3-$4 to a billboard fund, then that would be the next step.

But, its looking more and more like it just might be too expensive. Also, the logistics of setting up a paypal account, and refunding everyone their money (less paypal fees) if we don't raise enough would be a nightmare, but I'm still working on it.

I've also got messages at 4 other agencies.

Well, the first thing we need to do is figure out how many people would contribute at least $4-$5 to the fund. Then, we'll know what it is we can afford and if its worth the hassle. Yeah, because we all know how effective and accurate internet polls are. :icon_roll If you're actually considering a poll, remember that only about 30% of the people that "commit" to sending money will actually do it. And that's being generous.

That being said, I think this is a waste of money because that shitdick will never mention it on the air anyhow. We'd be better off spending the money on an ad for OnA themselves. They would get attention for the show AND it would send a message to XM and possibly get media coverage if done properly.

That faggot Rover, the morning "shock jock" here in Cleveland got a lot of attention a few months ago because he put ads on the sides of buses with a girl who obviously had hard nipples, with the caption "Perk Up with Rover's Morning Glory". It actually generated enough attention to the point where the transit authority pulled the ads. In a conservative place like Orlando for example, THAT would get attention.

My head is spinning on this one.. Whatever we do, I'll throw in $15 (all I can afford, I just paid up car insurance :icon_evil ). However, I believe the billboard is out. It is just too damn expensive, and we're all hoping this will be over rather quickly so we don't have to listen to his boring ass show any more. If this shit is still going on in 30 days (the ABSOLUTE minimum to get a billboard), I think most of us will have suffered irrepairable brain damage. I like the bus ad idea, but I don't know what their policy is. (yeah money is money no matter where it comes from, but they may have a business only policy). The ad-truck is good too. Whatever we do though, it has to be done QUICK, like in the next day or two, otherwise it starts to lose its effect.

That's not a bad idea. Although a billboard is a great idea, i'd rather save something HUGE like the billboard for howard. My guess is that the O&A Army's budget is tight and shouldn't go all out for our current target (shitdick philips).

If you really want to go the billboard route then you should ask the agency you are talking to about a preemtable rate. This is basically a rate given by the billboard company just to generate some revenue in the months the board is not sold however it will still be costly as us pests will need to pay for production and install costs. Depending on what company owns the board (Lamar, Viacom, Clear Channel, Vista, etc) the preempt rate could be next to nothing.

I know that Jim Philips is being changed to Mr. Philips. I am trying to see if it is not too late to change the line: The Pat Battle is on to"You lost the Pat Battle.

I am also thinking about asking for a 4th line, if develpoment isn't too far. The line would be: " P.S. Take the XM to the 202". Does any one see legal risk with this phrase. I don't know exactly what prep work they are doing before they receive my check.

Total cost is $1,000, I have fronted it hoping that I can raise $900 from fellow wackbaggers, keeping my contribution to the $100 listed and any paypal fees. Paypal does take a percent of the transaction. I am planning on aborbing that.

AC update - didn't see Anthony, of course we were at Showboat for Duran Duran, while he was at Resorts for Tom Jones. Tom Jones we had already seen on Tuesday in Reading. Financially, the slots were fine to us. We started with a wopping $12.25 in quarters (yes we are big gamblers, and cashed out $72.75. That means a net gain of $60.50 less cost of dinner, hotel, valet parking plus value of free dirinks - AC won while we can claim to be winners.

What about hiring someone to put up big posters in his town? Posters would be cheaper to print and then they would be everywhere as opposed to either one billboard or a truck. If there are enough of them would this be just as effective and less money?

If it's posters - then $1200 should do it. If it's posters though, why not just rampage with WOW stickers instead. The billboard was meant to be a personal message - the posters wouldn't really fit that correctly.

Yeah- The O Town run. If I was within a few hundred miles I would be all over it, but the current pest population is spread more thickly among the eastern seaboard. The pests should be there from the installation to the next few times JP goes past it, I feel plenty would mke the journey. Having a billboard like that right by the studo is a great AOTM.

Good point, I really haven't seen many golfers in Davis. But then again, anytime I'm in davis I'm just driving through to see my friend in winters. Winters is known for having a sign at the border saying "No Japs allowed" (back in the 50's and 60's) so you know its good people there.

Bottomline...sacramento was a huge market for the boys...we had some good pests stage a sticker stop a month or so ago...maybe its time for another one?!

The Billboard company is waiting for the proverbial check in the mail befoire they put up the sign. I was told that it would likely be able to be up within 24 hours of their receiving the check. Given it went out in Saturday's mail I would guess it would be there Monday or Tuesday. It was sent with tracking. When they tell me it is up. I will ask for pests to take pictures of it for us all to enjoy.


Please include wackbag name with payments for auditing and credit.

I prefer paypal, then check then Money Order. We want to make sure that funds don't go missing in the Post Office and funds are trackable.

"Received the check this morning. My art department is working on the art and management is looking at the copy, something they do with all billboard copy. We won't deposit the check yet!."

I was told that it can be up in 24 to 48 hours from when they receive the check. We are not sure yet if their management will have any issue with the Norfcal design. The sign is being rented for one month. We can rent additional months for $850, though I think 1 month is enough. If the sign is rented, the design stays up normally until it is.

Approval received from their management Mr. Clear & Mr. Channel, The approved Billboard is the Norfcal design, our first preference. My check has been deposited. Due to the design being Yellow on black they can not do it there. The order was placed and should be up by the end of next week. They will keep me informed.

The sign is being rented for one month. We can rent additional months for $850, though I think 1 month is enough. If the sign is rented, the design stays up normally until it is.

Unless you promised to send it via a pm or email hold off. We are basically there and I don't want to have to deal with too much at this point. Great spot to be in. But we did it. :action-sm

Thgey seemed to like the idea of the sign themselves. They are also willing to help out on ther sign needs. Definitly a possibility.

That's what I said. I also suggested contacting XM to see if they would consider taking over the board rent (obviously replacing the Mr. Philips board with a straight up O&A/XM ad).. $850 a month is peanuts for XM..

It's not 9.7 miles from the station or I-4. Definately too far away to be seen from I-4. The John Young Parkway is on the other side of Orlando so I dont think you'd see it from there either. :) Someone said its about 3 miles to the station, that definately sounds about right. I know the area - I live maby 2 miles away from the station.

(BTW, the station is right next door to the new EA games studios building, its where a good chunk of their games are created)

Anyone familiar with I-4: The sign will be somewhere in between the Maitland Blvd and Lee Rd exits just norf of O-Town. If you get off of either exit, its minutes away.

Once I know the sign is up, I will drive over and take some pics. I know others will as well.

Our idea was to take one off from this tall parking garage in Spokane when Nixon opened the (so called) World's Fair in 1974. The picture we had in mind was this large black plan diving on the rostrum just as Nixon began to speak. No damage intended of course, the payoff was to be the SS diving on the prez and shooting at the plane. Heh heh. We chickened out.

Can you picture a r/c plane buzzing the Today show set during some kind of outdoor concert dragging a big O&A banner behind it? Even if they caught you (very doubtful) we're talking about disturbing the peace or something. It'd make the news, eh? Get the boys in big trouble (which they'd love). Right, bad idea. Now where did I put all that r/c crap I used to have?

I have a call in for a quote on a billboard, normally billboards are rented for 16 weeks, but can be shorter. Though we may want to be nasty I think a simple one is best. all efforts will need approval of a general. Please let me know how much you are willing to chip in for. I think they normally go for $1200 a week when under 16 weeks. of course it depends on location. All we care abbout is that it is in maitland. So an available one may be less. The wording will be the one decided by one of the generals. To keep coists down it is likely to be 1 color and just words. like

Due to the design being Yellow on black they can not do it there. The order was placed and should be up by the end of next week. They will keep me informed. This is based on their putting a rush on the production order at no extra expense.

The salesperson assured me that they will contact people from the Philips Phile show and make sure they know. The guy claimed that Jim will definitely know, that it will be noticed by him right away. He mad a comment when looking at available boards of "let me see where he lives now, then came up with this suggestion" It would be great if he has to drive by it every day (he he). Of course emails, mail etc. always helps an attack. Of course there is always calling in to the show. The Clear Channel Outdoor Media people work in the same general complex but not the same building.

I will post when I receive notice from my salesrep that it is up. We will want plenty of photos of it. Including a night shot. I believe it is illuminated. I love the idea of a O&A Army Picnic. That would be great. Is there a place there that you can do it? If you do, invite the guy from Orlando weekly. Thoughts on apress release?

By 3 PM on Monday August 15th our victory billboard should be up on All American Boulevard in Maitland. We need pests to go there On Monday afternoon and take pictures and confirm the work is done.

For all of the "On the Fence People" Chuck came up (a 2 hour ride) today to PO's to talk attack / help PO and of course eat the 5 course meal we serve. All there were impressed and gave this FINE MAN a standing ovation for taking the lead on this Billboard. As far as all the baggers I know, he is a man to be trusted and WILL get things done. By 3 PM on Monday August 15th our victory billboard should be up on All American Boulevard in Maitland. We need pests to go there On Monday afternoon and take pictures and confirm the work is done.

The salesperson assured me that they will contact people from the Philips Phile show and make sure they know. The guy claimed that Jim will definitely know, that it will be noticed by him right away. He mad a comment when looking at available boards of "let me see where he lives now, then came up with this suggestion" It would be great if he has to drive by it every day (he he). Of course emails, mail etc. always helps as a reminder that the board exists. Of course there is always calling in to the show.

I will post when I receive notice from my salesrep that it is up. We will want plenty of photos of it. Including a night shot. I believe it is illuminated. I love the idea of a O&A Army Picnic. That would be great. Is there a place there that you can do it? If you do, invite the guy from Orlando weekly.

If there will be any Orlandoi area event with this by opests please let us know.

The approved Billboard is Norfcal's design, our first preference.


The Clear Channel Outdoor media people seemed to like the idea of the sign themselves. They are also willing to help out on other sign needs around the country. Definitly a possibility. Hoo Hoo I am the king of all media.
