Is there a suite of programs that will take care of anti-virus, anti-spyware, defragmention, hard drive cleaning, etc.? I need to clean my PC, and protect it from future junk...since I got it over a year ago, I've had NO protective programs for it whatsoever. I've been lucky so far, but since I'm gonna be connected to University of Buffalo's student network soon, I think I'm gonna need protection soon. My hard drive must be a complete mess too.

www.free-av.com is my fav AV program, www.lavasoftusa.com for Ad-Aware SE is a good malware removal program... and www.mozilla.org for Firefox.

Smoke, those are free programs, right? Are they really as good as the stuff you gotta pay for? I've used Ad-Awate SE a couple of times, actually, and I still got pop-ups immediately after running it.

How about a good defrag/drive cleaner program?

Ad-Aware doesn't catch as many programs as most people think. Try Microsoft Anti-Spy, despite being a Microsoft product it's pretty good.

I had to clean out a friend's computer this week, and she had so much spyware on her computer it took 20 minutes just to load the thing up. It was ridiculous! I used Ad-Aware first, it found 1453 infections, then Microsoft Anti-Spy found another 400 after that. I installed Firefox & Spyware Blaster (prevents spyware from installing at all) and gave her a good fucking lecture.

I use O&O for my defragmenting, but you have to pay for that.
