It's been almost a year since my last audition with KOBALT. This one's THREE ROUND BURST, an unknown band that apparently played one gig last year. There's a drummer and guitarist at current, and there's a bassist and vocalist filling in until the band rounds out. I haven't heard any of their stuff, but they say that they've got ten original songs and they're inspired by the bands I listed on my flier (SOD, Anthrax, eXodus, Slayer, Testament, etc). The guy I spoke to, Marc, was very nice and not at all the type of metal dickhead you run across when trolling for bands.
I asked for some songs they cover so that I could brush up on them before Friday, and they say they only really play snippets of songs and rarely play a song the whole way through. That's a red flag.
On the upside, though, they sound pretty amateur- which is what I need. I'm not that good and can actually shine if I'm not worried about talented people glaring at me. Plus, they've got a practice space with air conditioning. Oh, how wondrous that must be...
I sent Marc a link to two of my full-length songs. I'm going to practice tonight and start getting back into shape for the chugga-chugga assault.
another Rhode Islander huh? cool...

Guitar, mostly rhythm, but it sounds like they'll ask me to lead. I can fake leading well enough for people that don't know better. The truth is that my leads are for shit, but I can scribble fast enough up and down the fretboard.

The upside of playing with any band is once you get yourself into the area music scene you can make contacts while you get better, then when you outgrow that group you can jump ship and go right to another band... its kind of a dick thing to do but it doesn't sound like you know these guys, and like you said they had one gig last year, they're probably not going to the ozzfest anytime soon...
but I can scribble fast enough up and down the fretboard.

I know, I know- I fully admit that I can't solo. All I was saying is that I'm fast enough to at least sound like I'm doing something (to those that don't know better) instead of just wiggling my fingrs [/Anthony].

These are the T-shirts I'm making up for my fictional band- these'll sell because they feature undead, but really, it's just me pretending. Le sigh.

... You never know though, I started with what was going to be a pop punk band (I HATE pop punk like Jimmy hates the left) and ended up doing it for three years... it was a lot of fun before the rest of the band and I really started to disagree about the next step (they're going hardcore I think)
not to derail or anything but here's the myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/hqaxmusic) for the band I was in that I was talking about. Good luck man, take any gig you can get and rock the fuck out...
