Yes it still exists and yes the power is still there. Drawing more attention to Henry Hill is drawing attention back to itself. My thoughts is that they let the heat cool off while slinking back into the shadows. The spotlight doesn't treat the Famiglia well these days.

I live in a heavilt mob bases erea . last night an old philly guy who knew all the oldys told me how Joey Merlinos dad was dealing with a few Pagans, he didnt like how they were dressed told them to get out of his resturant and dress better or no deal would happen.

Then he proceeeded to follow them in his car and run them over on their bikes. One was the leader of the Pagans.

You go from that to gottis shanagans, killing a working man for accidentaly hitting his kid with his truck. when the kids ridinbg a go cart in South Philly.,And acting the star on Tv....I hope the mob. wich is still alive n kicking has figured out high profile = jailtime.

I believe the Mafia, does still exist, but its power has been drastically been reduced. This due to several reasons.
1. Drug trade: Once shunned by the older bosses, many could not ignore the money that narcotics could bring in. However this lead to more spotlight from the federal government, and combined with the RICO act, led to harsher penelities against wisgeguys. To avoid these penalities, many would do what was once considered a no-no in the Mafia and rat out those higher than them. This led to several top bosses being concvicted and the dominos just fell in place.
2. The fall of Communism in the Soviet Union and the rest of Eastern Europe: This led to many former KGB and secret police being put out of work. Couple with that the Soviet Union's own organized crime, realized that now money could be made illegally in open. Many immigrated to this country to take up crime, not fearing our justice system after being locked up in Soviet jails.
3. The Drug Cartels and explosion of coke and crack in the 80's, coupled with reason one, help erode the mob's powerbase.
4. The cleaning up and making Las Vegas family friendly
5. The new generation: With alot of the old bosses locked up or dead, the new generation of the Mafia, doesn't embrace the old ideas and therefore the leadership is lacking.
This being said I still beleive the Mafia is around, just look at some of the neighborhoods around NYC and you know can't get away with certain shit in them.
